RACE 1: Optus Business Direct Ipswich Mile Benchmark 85 H'Cap – 1666m
FOREST WAY – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
PERFECT PUNCH – Stewards questioned jockey R. Fradd regarding his riding of the gelding approaching and rounding the home turn whereby he shifted from the running rail wider on the track, which enabled BUDGET BENDER to obtain a run to his inside. Jockey Fradd explained that his horse commenced to lay out after passing the 600m and continued to shift out despite his efforts. Jockey Fradd added that in hindsight it would have been a better option to change his whip to his left hand to assist him in maintaining a position on the rail. Stewards noted his explanation.
AVALANCHES – When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance trainer T. Bailey stated that he had not been disappointed with the gelding's previous 2 runs, which were over shorter distances than that of today's event when returning from a spell. Mr Bailey noted that the gelding performs best when third up from a spell.
RACE 2: Schweppes T.L. Cooney QTIS 3YO H’Cap – 1350m
CROOKED BLAZE – Trainer L. Davies advised the intention would be to sit off the speed today if circumstances permit. Due to the slow early tempo the horse raced outside the leader.
KAREEM'S EDGE – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
LIFE AT SEA – Slow to begin.
TOUCH OF BELLA – Pulled hard in the early stages.
GIRLS COMMAND – Overraced in the early stages.
RHODIN DRIVE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
GUNSMOKE – Jockey A. Allen reported at scale that it was not his intention to lead but after beginning well and due to the lack of early speed he allowed the horse to stride forward.
RACE 3: Sirromet Wines Bundamba Plate QTIS 2YO H'Cap – 1100m
COUNTING CARDS – Slow to begin.
REAL GOOD – Shifted out at the start and bumped another runner.
HOT SNIPPETY – Bumped on jumping away.
HALLS CREEK – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout.
DUTCH TREAT – Overraced in the middle stages.
EMBRACE THE PAIN – Jockey J. Stanley reported at scale his mount hung out after leaving the 600m and proved difficult to ride.
RACE 4: Ray White Ipswich Dash Class 6 SW Plate – 1100m
SCHIAVONE – Hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare had bled from both nostrils during the event. Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos was advised that the mare will incur a mandatory 3 month ban from racing and must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to racing again.
SINGLE CHANCE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
TISANI TOMSO - Raced wide without cover throughout.
ROCK ROYALTY – Lost its off fore plate in running during the event.
RACE 5: Queensland Times Winter Provincial Stayer Series Final Benchmark 80 WR 3kg H’Cap – 2150m
HOLLY HOLY – As App B. Grylls was dually engaged stewards permitted B. El-Issa to be substituted as the rider. Stewards accepted the explanation of App Grylls. Unable to secure clear running from the 600m until the 250m.
EXPLODED - As R. McMahon was dually engaged stewards permitted D. Griffin to be substituted as the rider. Stewards accepted the explanation of jockey McMahon.
STOP CRYING – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
FORELOCK – Passing the winning post on the first occasion had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ENDLESS PUZZLE, which shifted in when not fully clear. T. Bell (ENDLESS PUZZLE) was issued with a reprimand.
I'M HECTOR – Had to be checked off the heels of STRATEGIC SHADOW passing the 1600m. Held up and unable to improve from the 600m until the early stages of the home straight.
ROCBOLT – Passing the 1400m steadied from heels and shifted out abruptly bumping another runner.
IN MASQUERADE – Severely hampered passing the 1400m.
THAT'LLBGOOD – Bumped heavily on the hind quarters passing the 1400m.
WEARING WINGS – Overraced in the middle stages stages.
WIMPOLE STREET – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the straight until approaching the 150m.
KOBI CREEK – Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn and had to alter course wider on the track to improve at the entrance to the straight.
HARBOR SPRINGS – Over the concluding stages had to be steadied when tightened for room.
RACE 6: Channel 7 Ipswich Quality Listed Cup – 2150m
VODNIK – Slow to begin. When questioned as to the disappointing performance jockey G. Colless stated that the gelding appreciated racing on surfaces with some give. Jockey Colless noted that the gelding had previously performed poorly on firm surfaces and felt awkward in its action over the final 400m of the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
BACHELOR ZEEL – Slow to begin.
DANCHAI – Approaching the 500m had to be checked from heels and shifted out bumping the hind quarters of another runner. App L. Tarrant was fined $500.00 for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.
BANCA MO – Near the 400m had to be steadied from heels and alter course in order to improve.
BALIGARI – Inconvenienced near the 200m. When questioned as to the performance jockey R. McMahon was of the opinion that with the solid tempo of today's race the gelding failed to run out the distance of 2150m. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery rate. Stewards will interview trainer L. Kennewell regarding the performance of BALIGARI.
VOLKHERE – Raced 3 wide throughout. Jockey Harrision reported at scale that the gelding did not feel entirely comfortable in its action throughout the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
NOISY OCEAN – Raced 3 wide throughout.
SHOTOVER RIVER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
RACE 7: City of Ipswich Eye Liner Quality Listed Stakes – 1350m
RIVA DE LAGO – Jumped away awkwardly. Had to steady away from heels after leaving the 1100m.
ULMANN – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Held up from after leaving the 600m until shortly after entering the straight.
SOROS – Slow to begin.
PILLAR OF CREATION – Passing the 1100m had to steady away from heels.
BLACK CASH – Held up from the 500m until inside the 200m.
DAPH 'N' ALF – Hung out approaching the home turn.
SMOKIN' JOEY – Raced wide without cover throughout.
NITE ROCKER –When questioned regarding the performance jockey R. McMahon explained he travelled comfortably in a trailing position behind DAPH 'N' ALF throughout however soon after straightening he was under pressure and the gelding was disappointing in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Stewards will interview trainer L. Kennewell regarding the performance of NITE ROCKER.
RACE 8: Sky Racing Gai Waterhouse Classic Fillies & Mares Quality Listed H’Cap – 1350m
LITTLE BROWN HORSE – Slow to begin.
FARE WELL – Disappointed for clear running until passing the 200m.
SISTER EMMA – Held up for clear running in the home straight and went to the line not fully tested by its rider. Lost its near hind plate in running.
REFER – Raced wide without cover throughout.
GREY COUNTESS – Jockey R. Wiggins was fined $200.00 for returning to scale 1 kilo over his declared weight.
