RACE 1: IPSWICH-LOGAN HORNETS CRICKETERS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 800M

The start of this race was delayed when TIS MINE was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer Q. Kearney was advised that the filly would have to officially trial prior to its next start.

GREEN STYLE – Had to be steadied near the 400m when awkwardly placed at the heels of RED STRAAD.

UNDERCOVER LOVER – Apprentice T. Williams reported that her mount was inclined to lay in when racing greenly throughout.

FRIENDS COME FIRST – Began awkwardly, making contact with TIS MINE.

KYNANCE COVE – As T. Bell was late arriving on course due to transport difficulties, S. Bogenhuber was substituted as the rider of this runner. Had to be steadied near the 500m when START THE SHOW (R. Fradd) shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey Fradd was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Inclined to lay in for the majority of the home straight, proving difficult to ride.

TIS MINE – Bumped at the start and lost ground as a result.

RACE 2: CHANNEL 7 MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

The start of this race was delayed when LOCOMOTION, which kicked out in the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

REVELIO – Jockey C. Whiteley will be interviewed at a later date regarding the use of his whip.

VINNIE LOVES ME - Began awkwardly.

HELLO HARRA – Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer B. Robinson for failing to produce the horse's Thoroughbred Identification Card. Stewards advised Mr Robinson that he would be required to produce the horse's papers before the gelding's next race start. Mr Robinson was fined $100 for failing to declare B. Derbyshire as the rider by the prescribed time.

SPEAR OF DESTINY – Began awkwardly.

OL' BROWN EYES – Held up rounding the home turn. Stewards questioned jockey P. Romeo regarding his tactics. Of particular concern to stewards was the reason why, when racing in a one off position at a point near the 1000m, he elected to restrain his mount somewhat, allowing the favourite VINNIE LOVES ME to cross him comfortably and find a position on the fence. Jockey Romeo stated that after beginning well, and as the horse did not show its customary speed, he was content with the position he found himself in and he was hesitant to improve as he was of the opinion that VINNIE LOVES ME would cross him when not fully clear, resulting in him having to steady from heels. Stewards advised him that he should have made greater effort to obtain the position one out one back in an endeavour to keep VINNIE LOVES ME racing in a three wide position.

JUNIOR HEIST – As the horse was uncompetitive throughout, trainer G. Walters was informed that JUNIOR HEIST would be ineligible to compete at TAB meetings until such time as its country form became competitive. Mr Walters indicated to stewards that the gelding would be retired from racing.

POET – Hampered at the start.

RACE 3: PRINCE ALFRED HOTEL MAIDEN PLATE – 1690M

ENEMY'S DEFEATED – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout.

GALIANO – Held up for a short distance on entering the home straight.

THE BOOTMAKERS- Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

DANZER GIRL – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. Tightened for room near the 100m.

SUBTLE WINNER – Raced wide throughout.

TRIPLE AXEL – Apprentice M. Powell was fined $300 for failing to claim his full allowance.

USSANDU – Slow to begin.

RACE 4: BLUE DOGS SPORTS CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1690M

WORTH THE WAIT – Stewards questioned apprentice M. Powell in the presence of Jockeys Advocate S. Scriven regarding the tactics he adopted. Of concern to stewards was whether there was an opportunity for apprentice Powell to maintain a closer trailing position behind the leader rather than allowing his mount to settle some lengths off that horse, which eventually allowed ALL CLEAR to obtain the position behind the leader near the 1000m. Apprentice Powell advised that it was his intention to lead today's event, however when the pace of the race was strong during the early stages, he elected to obtain a trailing position behind CARTON. He added that after passing the 1300m, as his mount was travelling comfortably, he was reluctant to pressure it to maintain a closer trailing position behind CARTON, however having had the opportunity to review the patrol footage he agreed with stewards that he should have been more aggressive in holding a position closer to the leader during the middle stages.

ROAD TO THE BAY – Raced three wide without cover. When asked for a comment regarding his mount's performance, apprentice N. Masuda stated that he was caught three wide for the majority of the event, however was disappointed with the gelding's finishing effort. He added that the gelding was up in both class and distance today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

LUCKY DAY KID – Hung out from the 600m until entering the home straight.

GOLDEN CYGNET – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

RACE 5: THE LES KINNANE MEMORIAL CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M

SUPERSTITION – Had difficulty obtaining clear running after entering the home straight until a point approaching the 100m.

JOBIWOOD – Stewards afforded jockey R. Wiggins the opportunity to comment on the horse's performance. R. Wiggins stated that he was forced to pressure the horse in the early stages to take up a forward position and as a result felt that this may have had a detrimental effect on the gelding's finishing effort, which in his opinion was very disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings and a swab sample was taken.

BENTLES – Held up when awkwardly placed at the heels of SUPERDUTY rounding the home turn and then had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.

WIDE EYED – Bumped with another runner on a number of occasions shortly after the start.

SUM IT UP – Bumped with another runner on a number of occasions shortly after the start.

SUPERDUTY – Shifted in abruptly near the 200m and became unbalanced.

COOL TRICK – Raced wide throughout.

RACE 6: PROVENANCE TECHNOLOGY PTY LTD F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M

The start of this race was delayed when SHUKRIYA required farrier attention behind the barriers.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to afford T. Bell, the rider of 2nd placegetter MARASKA, to opportunity of viewing the stewards' patrol footage to determine whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner. After viewing the videos, T. Bell declined to lodge an objection.

I DOUBT I CAN – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

BUKEKAYO – Trainer C. Anderson advised that from the good barrier the rider would be instructed to take up a forward position. The horse was ridden accordingly. Blundered at the start.

FAICONI – Raced wide throughout without cover. R. McMahon was reprimanded for using the whip in consecutive strides in a forehand manner prior to the 100m. R. McMahon was also reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race.

SHUKRIYA – Jockey T. Harrison reported to stewards at scale that the filly hung out from the 700m and as a result proved difficult to ride rounding the home turn and she was unable to fully test her mount until it balanced up after entering the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that a warning would be placed against the horse's racing manners.

MADAME BOLLINGER – Slow to begin.

RACE 7: SELECT FLOORING QLD C,G&E CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M

YEAGER – Slow into stride. When questioned, jockey R. Wiggins reported to stewards that the gelding was slow to begin and in his opinion would appreciate racing over distances longer than that of today's event.

NO MAGIC NEEDED – Stewards questioned apprentice C. Schmidt regarding the tactics adopted today whereby the horse led, which was in contrast to its last start where it settled back in the field. Apprentice Schmidt stated that with the addition of blinkers today on the horse, she was instructed to take up a forward position. She added that the gelding travelled strongly in the early stages and as a result she allowed it to stride forward and settle outside the leader. Trainer B. Baldwin confirmed the instructions today and also advised stewards that the instructions at the last start were of a similar nature, however the gelding settled further back than anticipated on that occasion. He added that with the addition of blinkers, the gelding was able to begin a lot better today and race in a position as instructed.

SAIL THE STARS – Shifted in shortly after the start and made contact with NO MAGIC NEEDED.

SERAPHIMS – Connections advised that the rider would be instructed to ride the horse in a rearward position from the wide barrier if circumstances permit. T. Bell reported that after beginning well he settled further forward than he had indicated and raced wide throughout.

STRENGTH – The veterinary surgeon reported that the horse bled both nostrils. The gelding will now be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

CRUSADER RABBIT – Bumped near the 200m.

RACE 8: WHITTINGTON AT GRANDVIEW STUD CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1350M

After viewing the stewards' patrol footage, T. Bell, the rider of 2nd placegetter A FINE DROP OF RED, lodged an objection against NOOGOORA BURR being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that approaching the winning post the two runners made slight contact, however bearing in mind the proximity to the winning post and the way in which both runners were finishing off the race, they could not be satisfied that the interference warranted a reversal of placings and therefore dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the Judge's placings.

PRISCILLA'S STAR – Blundered of its own accord near the 600m.
