GENERAL

Jockey Andrew Spinks, rider of SHOW A FLICK, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 12 occasions prior to the 100m. When assessing penalty, stewards took into account Mr Spinks' poor record for whip breaches, the fact that SHOW A FLICK won the race and the extent of this particular breach. Jockey Spinks' licence to ride in races was suspended for 10 days, to commence at midnight, 6 August 2016 and to expire at midnight, 16 August 1016.

Race 1: Ipswich Knights Soccer Club Class 2 H'cap – 800m

ISIS MAGIC – Stewards interviewed trainer Mr B. Currie regarding the nomination, acceptance and scratching of the horse. Mr Currie explained that the nominations were extended and he elected to submit a late nomination and that since the horse's last start where it pulled up with minor shin soreness it has been spending time on the water walker, and up until this morning intended to have the filly take its place in the field. However when the track was rated Good 4 with the possibility of an upgrade to Good 3, he elected to scratch the filly today and wait for a race in the next 7 to 10 days. Stewards noted Mr Currie's explanation.

ONE TUFF CUPCAKE – Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn, forcing another runner wider on the track.

CLARADINI – Raced wide throughout when forced wider by another runner.

GENERATE – Raced in restricted room shortly after straightening when attempting to take a run to the inside of GO GET SUM.



Race 2: Get Well Bluey & Val Roberts QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 800m

NELLIE'S DELIGHT – Began awkwardly and shifted out, tightening runners to its outside.

DANCING DERINA – Began awkwardly and shifted in, tightening a runner to its inside.

CHRISSY'S SPIRIT – Hampered on jumping away. Raced greenly in the home straight.

SOLTINHO LAD – Hampered on jumping away.

IT'S NOT AN ISSUE – Slow to begin.

TONY'S PRINCESS – Inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

CITY MARKET – After passing the 100m had a tendency to lay in over the concluding stages under pressure.

RINGO'S A ROCKSTAR – Inclined to hang in under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide throughout.

ROUGE LASS – Raced wide throughout.

Race 3: Ipswich Futsal Competition Maiden Plate – 1666m

TE KULA KAHA – Change of tactics. Connections advised the horse would be ridden aggressively to obtain a position in the lead if possible. The horse was ridden accordingly.

FAST VISION – Became fractious and kicked out in the gates. Buffeted between runners rounding the home turn.

GORADA – Raced 3 wide without cover after passing the 800m. Forced wider on the track approaching the 400m. Had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

LIGHTNING ROCK – Buffeted between runners rounding the home turn.

SHE'S MY ANDY – Forced wider after passing the 600m. Raced wide throughout.




Race 4: Coalstars/St. Helens Bowls Day Benchmark 65 - 2150m

TWO SHILLINGS – Trainer L. Birchley was fined $100 for failing to produce the Document of Description for the horse.

PRETTY LUCKY – Bumped on jumping away.

PRIZE – Bumped on jumping away.

GO ON RED – Crowded passing the winning post on the first occasion by PRETTY LUCKY, which shifted in. Apprentice M. Shimodaira, rider of PRETTY LUCKY, was advised to exercise more care. When asked to explain the performance of GO ON RED, apprentice T. Brooker stated that, in her opinion, the gelding races best when able to lead on its own. Despite this, due to the quick pace today and pressure applied by another runner, she opted to steady and settle behind the lead. She felt that when in this position the horse travelled reasonable well however failed to run on over the concluding stages. She added that, in her opinion, the horse does not run out a strong 2150m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

TWO SHILLINGS – Overraced in the early stages.

JUPITER PALM – Raced 3 wide in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the leader passing the 1200m. Approaching the 800m was forced 3 wide by GO ONTHE RED, which shifted out to obtain clear running.

MR SCARY – Overraced in the early and middle stages.


Race 5: The Grants Guru Maiden H'cap – 1100m

Correct weight was delayed to allow L. Cheshire, rider of the 4th placegetter, to view the stewards patrol video to ascertain if she had grounds for an objection against SQUIDINKUM being declared 3rd. Subsequently, jockey Cheshire declined to proceed.

SQUIDINKUM – Hampered on jumping away when CHILDHOOD shifted in. Hung out after rounding the home turn and shifted out abruptly approaching the winning post.

BLUE CHIPPED – Began awkwardly and shifted out at the start. Hung out passing the 400m and continued to do so for the remainder of the race. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

CLEAR REFLECTION – Obliged to alter course to the outside to obtain clear running on straightening.

IMPLICATE – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

OH SO LOUD – Raced wide throughout.




Race 6: Pennywise Ipswich Class 1 H'cap – 1350m

JAZZY RULER – Declared a late scratching at 1.55 pm due to traffic delays.

DRUM MASTER – Began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping another runner.

BANCROFT – Bumped at the start.

STAGE DANCER – Tightened for room shortly after the start.

ELMOTINO – Tightened for room shortly after the start.

REMISSIO – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Inclined to lay in in the home straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage.

GRECIAN SUMMER – Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.

ALTOVISE – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

PLOUC – Raced 3 wide throughout. Hung out severely after passing the 800m turn, placing its rider at a disadvantage and then continued to hang out for the remainder of the race. Jockey J. Orman reported the gelding may have got its tongue over the bit. Stewards nevertheless advised trainer M. Dunn that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.


Race 7: Trent Scott's Plumbing Ratings Band 0-65 – 1200m

SONGSPUR – Trainer T. Hurley was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. Steadied leaving the 500m when awkwardly placed at the heels of SUPERSTITION. Raced wide throughout.

JETTY BETTY – Change of tactics. Connections advised the filly would be ridden in a more forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout

GET THAT INDYA – Slow to begin.

CROUPIER – Slow to begin.

SUPERSTITION – Slow to begin. Bumped by HOW CAN I HELP near the 500m. Trainer reported the gelding had some lacerations to the inside of the off hind leg, and some small abrasions on its near foreleg.
