QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT IPSWICH TURF CLUB – SATURDAY 14 JANUARY 2017 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4/GOOD 3 @ 10AMRAIL – TRUE PENETROMETER – 4.43 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – N. BoyleStewards – M. Knibbs, J. Williamson, B. CookeBetting Steward – A. KitchingClerk of Scales – P. ReardonJudge – A. Rayward, L. SmythVeterinarian – F. ViljoenSwab attendants – A. Challen, G. GrayBookmakers Supervisor – B. BlightStarter – G. GreasleyStewards Secretary – W. Ostrofski RACE 1: SPRINGFIELD PANTHERS QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M On return to scale B. Stewart, the rider of MRS QUIGLEY, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against PINSTRYKE being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the stewards' patrol footage, it was established that approaching the 100m PINSTRYKE had a tendency to lay out and may have slightly hampered MRS QUIGLEY at that point, however at the same time MRS QUIGLEY shifted out, brushed the hind quarters of STARENA and became unbalanced. Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that given the margin separating both horses and the shift outwards by PINSTRYKE a reversal of the placings was warranted, the protest was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the Judge's placings. MRS QUIGLEY – Slightly hampered and bumped with STARENA passing the 100m. PINSTRYKE – Had a tendency to shift out over the concluding stages. Apprentice T. Brooker was reminded of her obligations to straighten her mounts when shifting ground. STARENA – Hampered on jumping. Had to be steadied to avoid heels rounding the 800m turn. Raced three wide with cover. Forced wide by another runner rounding the home turn. STRONG I AM – Raced three wide without cover. Forced wide by another runner rounding the home turn. RACE 2: BLUNDER RD COUNTRY MARKETS F&M MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M HIGH AFRICAINE – Hung out after passing the 600m. ROSES M'LADY – Slow into stride. RACE 3: STRUDDYS SPORTS C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M The start of this race was delayed when GRAN SABANA had to have its near hind plate refitted. CHATARA – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. B. Stewart reported that although his mount was held up rounding the home turn, had he been able to establish a run at the 300m the gelding may have finished closer. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. OPTIMISTIC HEART – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. CAN DO CAMPBELL – Apprentice E. Ljung reported at scale that her mount hung out throughout the event. SAME OLD – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Raced wide rounding the home turn. SUGAR RAY – Raced wide rounding the home turn. RACE 4: BROTHERS IPSWICH CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M RESOLUTE – J. Taylor reported that after beginning reasonably, and as he did not want to be trapped three wide, he allowed his mount to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 1000m, but after doing so the gelding commenced to overrace and therefore he allowed it to stride to the lead and it continued to overrace for the majority of the event, which he believed may have had a bearing on its finishing effort where it tired over the final 200m. RACE 5: JETS LEAGUES CLUB CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1350M As apprentice E. Ljung required attention from the paramedics, Races 5 and 6 were put back one race start time, with Race 7 rescheduled to be run at 2:12 pm. Prior to the commencement of Race 5 all jockeys riding in this race were asked whether they were comfortable to proceed, bearing in mind the prevailing hot conditions, and all agreed they were comfortable to continue riding at this stage. The veterinary surgeon also inspected all runners in this race and was satisfied that all horses were fit and capable to take their place in the field. HEART COMMAND – Began awkwardly and lost some ground at the start. RACE 6: QRL WELCOME TO A GRADE EASTERN COBRAS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M HAPPY NO MORE Hampered shortly after the start between SPUN HARD and ACADEMY HILL, both of which shifted ground, and lost considerable ground. MADAM SHAZAM – As E. Ljung had been transported to hospital, N. Tomizawa was substituted as rider. SPUN HARD – Hampered shortly after the start. THE PLAYROOM – Began awkwardly, made contact with the barrier partition and lost ground. RACE 7: SIMON GEORGE AND SONS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M GLENTURRET – Had to steady passing the 950m when crowded for room by ALLENA, which was taken in by INFINITE LEE. MAGIC STREET – Hampered shortly after the start. ALLENA – Had to be checked passing the 950m when severely cramped for room by INFINITE LEE, which shifted in. J. Morris, the rider of INFINITE LEE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in whilst riding it along and not sufficiently clear J. Morris's licence to ride in races was suspended for 13 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 15 January and expire at midnight on Saturday 28 January 2017. In determining penalty, stewards were mindful of jockey Morris's recent absence from riding due to injury as well as his good record over the previous 12 months. REMLAPS JOY – Hampered shortly after the start. Had a tendency to lay in over the concluding stages. STEWARDS RACE DAY SUMMARY Summary of action concerning licenseesSuspensionsRace 7. J.
