From Rockhampton race meeting, 19.1.17
 
Stewards concluded an inquiry surrounding the reasons for jockey R. Plumb's  failure to arrive at the Rockhampton Jockey Club to fulfil his engagements.    After hearing submissions from jockey Plum, stewards, whilst noting his explanation,  nevertheless reprimanded him and advised him of his obligations to contact  stewards and advise them accordingly.    
 
Race 1: Happy 30th Sarah Harling Class 1 Plate – 2150m
 
EXCITEMENT LEVELS – Began awkwardly. Jockey G. Goold reported at scale his mount was inclined to overrace when racing outside the leader. He further stated that the gelding was under severe pressure near the 700m and failed to respond to his riding. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly distressed. Trainer M. Leitch reported she would have the gelding undergo an endoscopic examination, the results of which she would report to the stewards.
 
Following this race the track rating was upgraded to Good 3 retrospective this race.
 
 
 
Race 2: Grandview Stud Mares Maiden Plate – 1200m
 
OKAY LILLE – The explanation from trainer M. Frappell regarding the late notification of S. Bogenhuber as the rider of the horse was accepted.
 
DIAMONDINE – Began awkwardly.
 
EIGHT VERSES – When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance, jockey Cassidy stated that it was not his intention to lead, however as the mare was first-up today from a spell and as a result raced greenly, he was reluctant to restrain as this may have resulted in the mare overracing fiercely.  He therefore  was content to take up the lead. He added that the mare was disappointing over the concluding stages, however indicated the mare was first up from a 6-month spell and would take benefit from today's event.
 
Race 3: Sky Racing Entires and Geldings Maiden Plate – 1200m
 
SALUTE THE PRINCE – The explanation from trainer M. Frappell regarding the late notification of A. Sewell as the rider of the horse was accepted.  Shifted in at the start and bumped SCHMIDTY. Bumped close to the winning post.
 
SCHMIDTY – Bumped on jumping away.
 
GOD'S LAW – Began awkwardly and lost considerable ground and finished tailed off. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer S. O'Neill will be interviewed regarding the performance.
 
HUNGRY LIKE A WOLF – Slow into stride.  After improving onto heels had to be restrained  near the 800m.
 
DE LA LAD – Shifted in abruptly shortly after the start and became unbalanced.
 
GEOMETRIST – Had to be steadied near the 500m when placed in restricted room to the inside of MAGNORMOUS, which shifted in.
 
CANUNGRA KID – When racing greenly shifted out approaching the winning post, resulting in BUCHINSKI being tightened for room when attempting to obtain clear running to the outside of that runner's heels.  Apprentice Brooker, rider of CANUNGRA KID,  was advised to exercise more care.  In this incident, GOLD KRONER was bumped heavily and forced outwards and made contact with SALUTE THE PRINCE. Raced wide throughout.
 
GOLD KRONER – Bumped heavily nearing the winning post and forced outwards and made contact with another runner. Raced 3 wide without cover.
 
GRANDPA – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. The stable representative for trainer D. Scanes was advised he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to its next race start. Mr Scanes indicated to stewards that the gelding would now be sent for an immediate spell.
 
MAGNORMOUS – Jockey R. McMahon, rider of the 5th placegetter,  was fined $300 for failing to ride his mount right out to the end of the race.  In considering penalty, stewards believed his actions had cost his mount 4th placing. 
 
 
Race 4: Channel 7 BenchMark 75 H’cap – 1200m
 
TRALFAZ – Shifted out when racing greenly near the 600m and then raced wide for the remainder of the race.
 
MEDIA MAID – Checked near 1100m. Bled from both nostrils during the event. Connections were advised that the mare would be barred for a period of 3 months and would be required to gallop 1000 metres before stewards prior to being permitted to race again.
 
TIPS AND BEERS – A post race veterinary examination of the gelding following its poor performance revealed an abnormal respiratory noise.  Trainer K. Schweida was advised that he would be required to provide to stewards the results of an endoscopic examination.
 
SAIPAN – Jockey B. Appo pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MEDIA MAID, resulting in that horse  being tightened for room and having to be checked and also forced in, causing MINIVER to be tightened for room.  Jockey Appo was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight, 22 January and to expire at midnight, 30 January.
 
Following this incident,  MINIVER was taken in further causing CRAWFISH to be tightened for room between that runner and ROXY RHYTHM, which shifted out away from the heels of TRALFAZ.  ROXY RHYTHM had to be steadied as a result and CRAWFISH lost ground.
 
 
Race 5: Sirromet Winery QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1200m
 
MISHANI SILVA – Slow  to begin.
 
CAPTAIN THE WORLD – Bumped heavily shortly after the start and then soon after was checked when tightened for room between SIDERE, which shifted in, and RAHDANE, which shifted out.
 
SIDERE – Raced greenly in the early stages.
 
NEVER SO SIRIUS – Overraced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover, and then continued to overrace for some distance. Hung out rounding the home turn when racing wide.  Jockey Beau Appo could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance.
 
MR ATTITUDE – After being crossed by ZILITOR near the 800m then commenced to overrace and shifted out, making heavy contact with RAHDANE on a couple of occasions.
 
NORDIC SHOW – Raced wide throughout.
 
RAHDANE – A post race veterinary examination following the disappointing performance revealed the gelding to be showing signs of the thumps.
 
ZILITOR – A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly had sustained a laceration to the inside of the off hind heel consistent with being galloped on.
 
 
Race 6: Schweppes Ratings Band 0-60 H'cap – 1000m
 
BIG BRITCHES – Began awkwardly and lost ground.  Held up momentarily rounding the home turn.
 
ALKIPPE – Had to be steadied from heels near the 500m and lost ground.
 
 
Race 7: The Entire Group Class 2 H'cap – 1350m
 
PARANA – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground.
 
NAPAYSHINI – Slow into stride and then raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a position with cover near the 800m.
 
SCREAMING IMPULSE – Commenced to overrace fiercely near the 1000m and had to be restrained from heels leaving the 800m.
