Plumb (YANKEE ROLLER) was issued with a severe reprimand.  A short distance later MUMFORD had to be checked and again was tightened for room between KASCATA and DIVINE UNICORN, which shifted out.

KNOCKOURA – Near the 200m when laying in had to be checked from the heels of the weakening YANKEE ROLLER. Jockey J. Race 4: Infield DJ Festival Class 3 H’Cap – 1540m

As J. Orman was overweight for LEGS UNBARRED in this race and Race 5 (SIDETRIP) stewards permitted replacements as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.  Jockey Orman was subsequently fined $300.

LAREBIL – Commenced to hang out at the 1000m and continued to do so until rounding the home turn and took no competitive part over the concluding stages. Near the 400m commenced to overrace badly and had to be restrained by its rider. Trainer L. Kelly was advised that the gelding must compete in an official trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Mr Kelly advised stewards that the gelding would most likely be leaving his stable.

Race 5: Riverlink Fashions On The Field 3YO H’Cap – 2200m

As  J. Orman was overweight stewards permitted J. Taylor to be substituted as the rider of SIDETRIP.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by P. Hammersley the rider of WAKE UP VICTA which finished third against the winner FONTEIN LAD (N. Beriman) and the second placegetter THE BARRACUDA (M. Hellyer).  On the evidence it was established that THE BARRACUDA had shifted in inconveniencing WAKE UP VICTA and then FONTEIN LAD shifted out abruptly, which further hampered WAKE UP VICTA.  Bearing in mind where the interference took place and the distance of the race stewards were not of the opinion that this interference had a material affect on the placings and therefore dismissed both objections and declared correct weight as semaphored.

ROYAL RECEIVER – Began awkwardly and a short distance later had to be checked from the heels of WAKE UP VICTA.  A short distance after the start upon entering the course proper when attempting to obtain cover closer to the fence shifted in abruptly and had to be steadied.  Jockey J. EXCEEDINGLY CANNY – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted App B. Ainsworth stated that after beginning only fairly from the wide barrier she was of the view that due to the runners to her inside displaying superior speed she felt it was a better option to restrain her mount to obtain a position with cover closer to the rail rather than be caught extremely wide.  App Ainsworth added that approaching the home turn she contemplated saving ground by  improving to the inside however, when it was evident that a run would not eventuate she elected to shift out and improve into the race.  App Ainsworth further added that the mare found the line fairly.  Stewards noted her explanation.

N. Tomizawa the rider of BOTTARGA pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that approaching the 200m he allowed his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of TURKANA, resulting in that runner being tightened for room and having to be checked.  Jockey Tomizawa’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of nine (9) days to commence midnight 3 June 2017 and expire midnight 12 June 2017.
