Race 1: ALL ACCESS HIRE MAIDEN PLATE – 800M

AGIA MONI – As the horse had not raced for more than 12 months, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 140(a)(ii)(a) in that she failed to notify stewards by the prescribed time that the horse had undergone surgery to remove bone chips from both knees, which treatment may have affected or impacted on the horse’s performance in a race. Ms Cotsiopoulos was fined $200.

BETAJET – Bumped passing the 400m by MAN IN MOTION, which hung out badly, and was forced extremely wide on the track.

FAME THREEANDSEVEN – As the horse had not raced for more than 12 months, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Bumped passing the 700m.

IRVINE – As the horse had not raced for more than 12 months, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly and was bumped on jumping.

MAN IN MOTION – Raced greenly and hung out in the early stages and passing the 700m bumped another runner heavily. Continued to hang out and shifted ground passing the 400m, forcing BETAJET extremely wide on the track. Trainer P. Nolan was advised that the horse would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.

AHWAHNEECHEE – Hung out rounding the home turn. Training partnership A. Ross and T. Sweeney were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners.

AL SABELLA – Bumped heavily by MAN IN MOTION passing the 700m.

REMEMBER BELLA – Hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 2: SAMMUT BULOW F&M RATINGS BAND 0 – 60 H’CAP – 1350M

The start of this race was delayed when BOCAGE proved difficult to load.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed when trainer J. Dann and rider B. Nothdurft (SCRIPTS) wished to view the photo finish image. After doing so, they were not satisfied that the correct decision had been made by the Judge. Due to a technical issue, the photo finish image was not available to view in the stewards’ room, therefore the stewards, in the presence of Mr Dann and apprentice Nothdurft, viewed the image in the Judge’s box. After all parties returned to the stewards’ room Mr Dann indicated that he wished to challenge the Judge’s decision. After considering the matter, stewards determined that the Judge had semaphored the placings in the correct order and as there was no evidence to warrant an alteration to the placings, stewards declared correct weight on the Judge’s numbers.

LADY MICAELA – Hung out rounding the home turn.

BOCAGE – Began awkwardly.

SCRIPTS – Hung out from the 500m until entering the home straight.

PINBALL DAWN – Held up for a short distance in the early part of the home straight.

Race 3: REAL WAY PROPERTY CONSULTANTS C,G&E RATINGS BAND 0 – 60 H’CAP – 1350M

MONACO PLAYBOY – Hampered on jumping. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

LIMBO STAR – Bumped on jumping.

THE MONK – Blundered on jumping, unbalancing its rider. The veterinary surgeon reported that the horse had been galloped on the near fore heels.

CRYING CHEETAH – Held up for a short distance rounding the home turn.

PRINCE OF FLINDERS – Commenced to overrace passing the 800m, got its head up, raced ungenerously for a few strides and shifted out.

WORLD SERIES – Raced three wide from the 700m.

Race 4: FOURTHCHILD CAFÉ RESTAURANT CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

DUBAWI SNIPER – Raced three wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward passing the 800m to obtain a position outside the leader.

RAVEN’S WING – Slow into stride.

Race 5: HAPPY 12 MONTHS MARRIED GEORGINA DAVIS QTIS 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

The start of this race was delayed to allow the telecast of two interstate events.

The start was further delayed when BOINGO proved difficult to load. Trainer I. Livingstone was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s manners.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow J. Orman, the rider of 2nd placegetter BOINGO, to view the stewards’ patrol footage.

HELFUCHI – Began awkwardly. Had to be restrained and lost ground when tightened for room passing the 1050m and in doing so shifted in and made heavy contact with OSMOSIS, which was also taken in, making heavy contact with EPIC PIPER. Apprentice M. Murphy, the rider of MILLY MUNCHER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at that point he made insufficient effort to prevent his mount shifting in tightening the running of HELFUCHI and causing interference to other runners. After taking into account their finding of guilt relating to a careless riding charge for an incident at the 1150m, stewards ordered that apprentice Murphy’s licence to ride in races be suspended for a period of 13 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 24 December 2017 and expire at midnight on Saturday 6 January 2018, with the period of suspension to apply to both careless riding charges. In determining penalty, stewards took into account apprentice Murphy’s plea of not guilty to both charges and that the interference in both instances was deemed to be mid-range.

CORSINI – Slightly hampered passing the 600m when NOTONYA NELLY shifted in.

EPIC PIPER – Bumped heavily passing the 1050m.

KOPELLA – Bumped heavily shortly after the start by BOINGO, which was severely crowded by TENOR LASS to the outside, which was taken in by MILLY MUNCHER. Apprentice M. Murphy, the rider of MILLY MUNCHER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that passing the 1150m he shifted his mount in when insufficiently clear of TENOR LASS, which was taken in on to BOINGO, resulting in both runners being checked and losing their rightful positions, and tightening the running of KOPELLA. Raced three wide throughout.

HEAVENS STAR – Hampered on jumping.

OSMOSIS – Bumped heavily passing the 1050m and taken in, making heavy contact with another runner.

TENOR LASS – Taken in shortly after the start. Raced three wide with cover throughout.

BOINGO – Proved difficult to load. Severely crowded shortly after the start by TENOR LASS, which was taken in by MILLY MUNCHER.

Race 6: JOSE JENSEN KENT LAWYERS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1680M

On return to scale B. Stewart, the rider of 2nd placegetter ESCAPADO, lodged an objection against TEMPA MENTAL being declared the winner, alleging interference rounding the home turn. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that at that point TEMPA MENTAL shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so had to be steadied away from the heels of a runner ahead, resulting in ESCAPADO, which was following, having to be steadied away from the heels of TEMPA MENTAL. As stewards could not apportion full blame for the incident to TEMPA MENTAL and could not be satisfied that the amount of ground lost by ESCAPADO in the incident exceeded the margin of one length separating both runners at the finish, they dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

HEY BROTHER – Raced three wide without cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

ESCAPADO – Had to be steadied rounding the home turn when TEMPA MENTAL, which had shifted out to obtain clear running, had to be steadied off the heels of a runner ahead.

PIXIE HOLLOW – Clipped heels and stumbled near the 700m when endeavouring to go forward. Again clipped heels and blundered near the 500m. Lost the off fore plate in running. When questioned regarding her riding of the mare, jockey C. Schmidt explained that after blundering badly on two occasions she was reluctant to apply pressure to the mare in the home straight as she was of the view that the mare may have suffered an injury. Stewards advised jockey Schmidt of her obligations to report to stewards anything that may have affected a horse’s performance in a race. Stewards also spoke to trainer B. Baldwin who advised that in his opinion the mare has pulled up sound at this stage, however he undertook to report to stewards anything that may come to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the performance.

TEMPA MENTAL – Inconvenienced shortly after the start.

ISAVERDICT – Trainer K. Deacon was fined $100 for the late declaration of B. Stower as rider.

EUNGAI – Inconvenienced shortly after the start.

WOOLOOMAN SKY – Slow into stride.

PEXBURY AVENUE – Slow into stride. Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight. Disappointed for clear running approaching the 200m and had to be steadied away from heels and then went to the line without being fully tested.

Race 7: SAVCO VEGETATION SERVICES BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 2170M

CONSTANT RETURN – Stood flat-footed and missed the start by several lengths. Trainer B. Hill advised connections that it would be his intention for the horse to now leave his stable. Stewards, however, placed a warning against the mare for her barrier manners.

NOVATIVE – Commenced to lose ground after passing the 600m and finished a distant last. Trainer S. Cole was advised that the horse’s nomination would be refused for TAB meetings until such time as the horse’s country form improves.

SCANDALS – Connections advised that from the wide barrier it would be the intention to have the horse ridden in a rearward position. Raced three wide without cover after passing the 900m.

ALFIE JUNIOR – Raced three wide in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the lead at the 1300m. The veterinary surgeon reported that the horse sustained a laceration to the near hind leg consistent with being galloped on.

MONTEZUMA – Due to a miscommunication, J. Morris, who had been declared as rider, was subsequently replaced by S. Bogenhuber. Connections advised that it would be the intention to lead on the horse. Unable to race in a forward position due to the early tempo and settled midfield.
