CHASE THE WIND – Jumped away awkwardly and lost significant ground.

No racing incidents.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to HEAVY 9.

Race 3: RAY WHITE IPSWICH F&M CLASS 3 PLATE – 1350M

Apprentice E. Ljung was reprimanded for accepting dual engagements on TWO SHOES and ON A HIGH. Apprentice T. Brooker was subsequently substituted as the rider of ON A HIGH.

No racing incidents.

Race 4: XXXX QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

REAL SKILLS – Stewards sought an explanation from R. Stewart regarding him not riding his mount out in the home straight in his normal manner. R. Stewart explained that his mount was under heavy pressure prior to the home turn and did not handle the rain-affected track. He added that when KEREMA MORI weakened noticeably over the final stages, he began riding with some vigour after becoming aware that an opportunity existed to run 4th. Stewards cautioned R. Stewart and reminded him of his obligations to at all times test his mounts to the end of the race. When assessing the matter, stewards were comfortable that jockey Stewart’s actions had not materially affected his mount’s placing in the race.

KEREMA MORI – T. Brooker reported at scale that when her saddle slipped after travelling a short distance, she was placed at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. She added that she failed to test her mount in the home straight as she became concerned with the filly’s action and over the final 200m she eased the horse down. Stewards accepted T. Brooker’s explanation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant findings.

RIO ROSIE – Held up in the early part of the home straight, shifted out and made contact with TOP GLAMOUR, and then had to alter course to the inside of LI’L RODGE in order to improve.

TOP GLAMOUR – Bumped by another runner in the early part of the home straight.

Race 5: THE QLD TIMES QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

BACK CHAT – Slow to begin.

CIDER APPLE – Bumped on the hind quarters near the 700m and became unbalanced.

LETITRIPPOTATOCHIP – Overraced badly in the early stages and near the 800m had to be restrained from the heels of THE HUSSLER. Shifted out when overracing near the 700m and contacted the hind quarters of CIDER APPLE. Cast the off hind plate in running.

REAL KAOS – Jumped away awkwardly and lost significant ground.

THE HUSSLER – Bumped by another runner near the 400m. J. Orman reported at scale that his mount was disappointing and in his opinion would be better suited in the future when ridden with cover.

PRINCESS CAVALLO – Raced wide throughout.

TOLAI MERI – Laid out passing the 400m and brushed THE HUSSLER.

Race 6: CITY OF IPSWICH MAIDEN H'CAP – 1700M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow apprentice R. Ride (PEXBURY AVENUE) and trainer G. Cornish’s representative to view the photo finish image for 4th.

INTERVENTIONS – On return to scale R. Wiggins reported that his mount weakened badly in the home straight and did not feel entirely comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have been galloped on the near hind leg.

PIXIE HOLLOW – J. Lloyd dropped his whip near the 800m, before regathering it soon afterwards. This resulted in J. Lloyd becoming unbalanced in the saddle and losing ground. J. Lloyd was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts to the end of the race. When assessing the matter, stewards were comfortable that jockey Lloyd’s actions had not materially affected his mount’s placing in the race.

MUCH DEEPER – When questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly improved performance, Mr Nipperess explained that at its most previous start he was of the view that the horse got its tongue back and may have choked down during the race and for this reason he added a tongue tie today. He added that MUCH DEEPER races well on rain-affected tracks and is suited by the distance of today’s race. Stewards noted his explanation.

TRUST ISSUES – Bumped at the start and became unbalanced.

Race 7: SCHWEPPES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

DOOM – Stewards sought an explanation from J. Lloyd regarding the riding tactics he adopted in the early stages and whether an opportunity existed to race outside of the eventual winner ENTERPRISE MISS. Jockey Lloyd stated that he was instructed to ride the horse with cover and get it to settle in the early stages as it raced well when ridden this way at its most previous start. He added that he was satisfied to be trailing ENTERPRISE MISS approaching the home turn, however when ENTERPRISE MISS sprinted he was left flat-footed and shifted to the inside in the home straight and made steady ground. Stewards noted his explanation.

SIGNORIA – S. Doyle dropped his whip near the 200m.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to HEAVY 8.

Race 8: SKY RACING C,G&E CLASS 3 PLATE – 1350M

DOWNLOADING – Apprentice R. Ride was fined $400 for using the whip on 14 occasions and in consecutive strides prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, stewards took into account apprentice Ride’s previous poor record in relation to the whip rule and the totality of her whip use in the race.

ROBBERS COBBER – P. Hammersley reported at scale that his mount failed to handle today’s rain-affected track.

Race 9: GRANDVIEW STUD CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1200M

BELOSO – Put in a number of awkward strides and lost ground near the 450m and then was eased down by its rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer K. Craft indicated that the horse will now be retired from racing. Stewards advised Ms Craft that if circumstances change the horse would be required to trial officially prior to racing again.

DREAM KISSES – Stewards questioned P. Hammersley regarding the reason his mount raced in a three-wide position without cover in today’s small field. P. Hammersley stated that he rode forward from the barriers in an attempt to settle outside of the leader NILETTE, however, when BELOSO also showed speed he then attempted to restrain DREAM KISSES to a trailing position behind BELOSO, but was prevented from doing so when the filly commenced to overrace, and rather than overly restrain DREAM KISSES he elected to remain three wide. P. Hammersley added that although he had to cover additional ground, he felt that he was travelling well rounding the home turn, however, was unable to sprint when NILETTE quickened in the straight. Stewards noted his explanation. Cast the off fore plate in running.
