Costa, the trainer of LET’S GO CHAMP, regarding his failure to update a stable return to reflect that the horse had been gelded prior to its previous two runs this preparation. Mr Costa subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 175(k) in that his negligence led to a breach of AR. 53C(b) and he was fined $200. GENERAL As S. White was ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary Race 1: CHANNEL 7 QTIS 3YO H'CAP – 1700M EPIC RANT – When asked to comment on the gelding’s performance, jockey M. Race 2: SCHWEPPES C,G&E CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1200M DREAM MASTER – When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, jockey J. Lloyd was of the opinion that the gelding travels quite keenly in its races and whilst he was restraining his mount to slow the tempo, the gelding may have resented that. He was also of the view that the gelding would be better suited racing on a firmer surface than that of today’s event. THUNDER ROCKER – Began awkwardly, making contact with the barrier partition, and lost ground. Race 3: RAY WHITE IPSWICH QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M DIRECT ACTION – When questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance today, trainer S. Kendrick stated that the gelding was hampered on jumping at its first start and unable to muster speed over the 900m which he believed was too short for the gelding. He added that since then the horse has trialled and worked well leading up to today’s event and as such he stepped the gelding up to a more suitable journey of 1200m. He said he expected a more forward showing today over the further distance and with the wet track, noting that the gelding is bred to handle the wet, and he was not overly surprised by the win.
