ALATORA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer S. Lee was advised that the horse will be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward.
STRIVE TO SUCCEED – Laid out rounding the home turn.
Following the running of this race the track was downgraded to a Soft 6 retrospective.
Race 2: DR MERVYN FISH MEMORIAL MAIDEN H’CAP – 1666M
BRING EURO – Trainer C. Waller advised that the gelding would be ridden midfield with cover today if circumstances permit however, after beginning awkwardly, the gelding was caught racing 3 wide without cover until the 700m at which point the gelding was shifted to a 4 wide position when IT’S CHOUX TIME improved to its inside.
IT’S CHOUX TIME – Trainer C. Waller advised that the mare would be ridden in a more forward position than its last start. The mare was ridden accordingly.

NEVER IN DOUBT – Commenced to overrace when the pace slackened approaching the 1200m, and had to be steadied from heels.
GOTHIC ROMANCE – Hampered on jumping away. Had to be steadied away from heels approaching the 1000m. Laid in over the concluding stages.
ROCK WITH PASSION – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, Apprentice T. Williams advised that after pushing forward it was her initial intention to stay outside the leader however, when the pace slackened approaching the 1200m, the gelding commenced to race keenly and she allowed her mount to stride forward to obtain the lead.

FOURGRANDMAN – Held up for clear running from the 500m until the 300m, and was again disappointed for a run approaching the 200m. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, jockey J. Byrne stated that at its previous start the horse, when fresh, began well and was caught wide and allowed to stride forward. He further advised that today from the wide barrier the gelding began well, and that his instructions were to ride the horse with cover and, as a consequence, he was obliged to restrain it to the rear of the field to comply with those instructions. Trainer M. Wilson indicated that he would like to place the gelding over 1600m at its next start and advised that, should it draw a favourable barrier, it would be his intention to have it ridden in a midfield position.
THE DANGER – Had a tendency to lay out over the final 200m.
FLYING PRINCE – Disappointed for a run after passing the 500m. Lost the off fore plate in running.
MEYIWA HITAM MAWAR – Lost the near hind plate in running.

MANILA MISS – Became fractious in the barriers, and began awkwardly when hampered between runners. Held up for clear running from the 400m to the 300m.
TAABINGA – Slow to begin.
Race 5: CARLTON MID CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the patrol footage of the start to determine if BAUHINIA STORM was denied a fair start or gained an advantage. It was established that the gelding lunged forward in the barrier just prior to the start being effected, making contact with the barrier gates and , as a result, lost considerable ground at the start. Stewards were satisfied that BAUHINIA STORM did not gain an unfair advantage, and that the ground lost at the start was a result of the gelding’s own manners.
STAR ADELE – Began awkwardly. Heavily bumped near the 200m by PROSSIMITA which was taken out by COURTING JOY.
A BEAR IN THERE – Jockey A. Best was fined $200 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his allotted weight.

Nothdurft was issued with a severe reprimand under AR. 137(a) for shifting ground when not sufficiently clear. Jockey J. Taylor reported that his saddle shifted at the 1000m. Trainer J. Anderson was advised that the gelding will have to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
CUSHTY PRINCESS – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
Race 6: SCHWEPPES BM58 H’CAP – 1666M
WHO’S YOUR DADDY – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Held up from the 500m until passing the 300m.
ANNIHILATION – Caught wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer K. Stabe was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination, prior to racing again.

MONTRER DAME – Tightened between runners on jumping away, and lost ground.
GO DAISY – Stewards questioned Trainer S. Morrisey regarding the filly’s performance. Mr. Morrisey expressed his opinion that the performance today was very disappointing and he could offer no explanation for the performance, given that the filly was in a nice trailing position in the event, other than that the filly may struggle to run out a strong 1600m. He added that he will freshen the filly up, and drop it back in distance for its next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
BEERINAWINEGLASS – Bumped on jumping away.
EMPRESS ZHAO – Had to be eased when awkwardly placed at the heels of SALUTE THE PRINCE which shifted in approaching the winning post.

Held up for clear running from the 500m until entering the straight at which point it shifted wider to obtain clear running. Stewards questioned jockey J. Byrne as to whether he had an opportunity rounding the home turn to improve into a run to the inside of BALABINA. Jockey Byrne stated that he had made a decision to commit to improve to the outside of BALABINA which he felt was weakening. He added that prior to BALABINA shifting out, which subsequently afforded a run to the inside of that runner, he had committed himself and improved to the outside of the heels of BALABINA.
TYCOON ROSSA – Had to be steadied passing the 300m when racing in restricted room and then shifted wider on the track to obtain clear running.
