When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, particularly in the early stages, App J. Guthmann-Chester explained that his instructions were to obtain a position on the fence in the lead. App Guthmann-Chester noted that SUILVEN had previously shown good gate speed and in his opinion THE DANGER had previously shown a tendency to only begin fairly and for that reason he was confident that he would be able to press forward and cross THE DANGER to obtain the outright lead. App Guthmann-Chester added that passing the 1200m he was unable to initially cross THE DANGER due to its rider App Fancourt riding that gelding vigorously in an effort to maintain its position to the inside of SUILVEN. Subsequently he continued to ride his mount forward to eventually secure the lead near the 1000m. App Guthmann-Chester was hopeful that THE DANGER was going to hand up its position earlier than it had and with the benefit of hindsight would have elected to take hold and maintain a position to the outside of THE DANGER instead of pressuring the gelding for an extended period in the early stages. Stewards noted his explanation. Trainer B. Dais confirmed the intention to lead and expressed concerns over the tactics adopted by THE DANGER in attempting to maintain a position to the inside of SUILVEN, which he believed had a detrimental affect on the performance of SUILVEN. THE DANGER – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted App A. Fancourt noted that the gelding generally leads and from the inside barrier today it was the intention to adopt similar tactics. App Fancourt stated that after beginning only fairly she was obliged to pressure the gelding in an effort to obtain a forward position. App Fancourt added that she was hopeful of holding SUILVEN out and obtaining the lead however, when SUILVEN continued to press forward she eventually elected to steady and allow that runner to cross forward of her near the 1000m. App Fancourt expressed her surprise at the tactics adopted on SUILVEN given that at its two most recent starts it had settled in a handy position with cover. Stewards noted the explanation. DRIVING WHEELS – Lost an off fore plate in running. Race 8: Sky Racing Class 3 Handicap – 1100m Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer B. Smith for the late declaration of C.
