As L. Cassidy was unable to fulfil his remaining commitments after advising stewards he had sustained a back injury in this race, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 2: CFMEU MINING & ENERGY CUP WINTER PROV. STAYERS (HEAT) BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 2150M I FEEL GOOD – Slow into stride. DARBADAR – Slow into stride. Race 3: ‘DIGGER’ MURPHY MEMORIAL C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M After being loaded, STRAIGHT HOME became fractious and lunged forward, striking its head and displacing its bridle. STRAIGHT HOME was removed from its stall, examined by the veterinary surgeon, declared not suitable to race and was withdrawn at 2:13pm. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on STRAIGHT HOME be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2:13pm: 7 cents in the dollar for the win #816 cents in the dollar for place of winner #88 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #113 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #10 BILL THE CONQUEROR – Hung out on the home turn and laid in in the straight. PERFECT WITNESS – Overraced in the middle stages. SEQUABLUR – Overraced in the middle stages. ULTIMATE RING – Slow into stride. Race 4: MINERS FEDERATION F&M MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M Trainer J. Bannon was fined $100 for failing to declare M. Cahill as the rider of MORE OF MARY by the prescribed time. ABSTAIN – Disappointed for a run when improving approaching the 150m and consequently was unable to be tested over the concluding stages. J. Lloyd had his whip knocked from his hand just prior to the winning post. MEG’S INHERITANCE – Raced three wide without cover until the 700m. PIN DE LADY – Began awkwardly. J. Orman reported that his mount got its tongue over the bit during the event. SMOKIN’ HUSSAY – Raced three wide without cover from the 700m. Race 5: JO-ANN MILLER MP CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1666M KIJITO was a late scratching at 11:30 am due to transport difficulties. The declaration of correct weight was delayed to afford Mr K. Kemp, the trainer of 3rd placegetter TEDDER AVENUE, the opportunity of viewing the photo finish image. YEPPOON – J. Lloyd explained that connections instructed him to endeavour to have the horse race to the outside of other runners, however after beginning awkwardly he was initially covered by TERRA SANCTA and when that horse went forward, then raced inside of TEMPA MENTAL, and that YEPPOON therefore was off the bit most of the way and never travelled comfortably. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. ENLIGHTENED – Overraced in the early stages. TEMPA MENTAL – Bounded on jumping. Race 6: THE MEATWORKERS’ UNION SPRINTERS CLASS 6 PLATE – 1000M DEVIL’S PINCH was a late scratching at 7:44am. Trainer L. Hatch was fined $200 for failing to scratch by the prescribed time. Trainer P. Webster was fined $100 for failing to declare L. Tilley as the rider of NARANJA by the prescribed time. CAMBOOYA ROCK – Overraced in the middle stages. NARANJA – Raced three wide with cover. UPSTART – Held up on straightening and had to be shifted in in an attempt to find clear running, however was again disappointed for a run inside the 100m and was not able to be fully tested. NO ANNAMOSSITY – Carried 5 wide around the home turn. THUNDER RAIDER – Fractious in the barriers. L. Tarrant advised that it was not his intention to race as far forward, however the horse overraced badly and he had no other alternative than to allow it to race outside the lead. WUDANG BLADE – Raced three wide without cover. Race 7: CFMEU RETIRED MINERS CLASS 3 PLATE – 1350M CALYPSO BAY – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden back in the field if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden in a rearward position. TOBACCO ROAD – Slow into stride. CABEIRIAN – Overraced badly in the early and middle stages.
