WallaceStewards Secretary – W. Ostrofski SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT From Sunshine Coast 8.8.18 – Race 7: Trainer J. Murdoch reported that MR RED SHOES, which had performed poorly, was sore in the shoulder after track work this morning (10.8.18) and would now be sent for a spell. GENERAL As J. Byrne was indisposed due to illness, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 1: UNITED SPORTS CLUB MAIDEN H’CAP – 2150M CAMBRIDGE DON – Overraced in the early stages and due to the slow tempo the rider elected to move wider on the course leaving the 1500m and cross to the lead approaching the 1300m. CLEAR SAILING – Slow to begin. TANG DYNASTY – Raced three wide in the early stages and then obliged to steady when awkwardly placed at heels near the 1400m. WESTERN ORDER – Slow to begin. DELZALI – Slow to begin. ERROL – Slow to begin. Rider elected to improve three wide passing the 900m before being pushed four wide approaching the turn. Race 2: WISEMAN ACCOUNTANTS CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1666M LEGENDARY LUKE – Forced wider by another runner approaching the home turn. COURAGEOUS ROCK – Obliged to steady from the heels of a tiring runner approaching the 500m and shifted wider. HOTEL COSTE – Overraced in the early stages. LITTLE JOHN – Slow to begin and shortly thereafter put in an awkward stride. Hung out noticeably approaching the final turn and shifted wider on the course. Race 3: NICHOLS FINANCE C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M As R. Plumb was unwell, L. Rolls was substituted as the rider of SPEECHMAKER. Jockey Plumb was subsequently examined by the on-course paramedics and stood down from his remaining engagements in Races 6 and 7. Riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. ANIMAL INSTINCT – Shifted out under pressure over the final 200m. SPEECHMAKER – Slow to begin. THE NEWS – Raced three wide with cover throughout. ZAFOX – Slow into stride before mustering speed shortly thereafter. Overraced in the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance of ZAFOX, jockey J. Lloyd stated that after beginning only fairly the horse improved rapidly before being cluttered between runners. He added that the tempo of the race did not suit the gelding and then when asked to improve leaving the 500m he felt ZAFOX was flat-footed and failed to quicken. Jockey Lloyd also added that it was his intention to try to lead but after the poor beginning was obliged to settle behind runners. TONY’S DECREE – Raced three wide throughout. Race 4: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BARB WELLINGS F&M MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M Trainer R. Mackay was fined $100 for the late declaration of R. Palmer as the rider of EVENING. MADAM MAHAL, which kicked out in the barriers after being loaded, its off hind leg making contact with the barrier partition, was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2:59 pm. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on MADAM MAHAL be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2:59 pm: 0 cents in the dollar for the win #63 cents in the dollar for place of winner #610 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #77 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #9 FIRST WITNESS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after arriving at the barriers with a small amount of blood in its mouth and was passed fit to start. Bumped on jumping. MOONMO – Connections advised that it would be their preferred option to have the mare ridden less aggressively. MY DELILAH – Began moderately. NOREENA – Jumped awkwardly. OSMOSIS – Held up for clear running between the 500m and the 400m and was then obliged to alter course from a tiring runner. Race 5: CRIMESTOPPERS RACEDAY CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1200M The start of this race was delayed 3½ minutes due to a Scone thoroughbred event running behind schedule. JETS CRACKER – Hampered between runners shortly after the start. PRINCE OF TIE – Overraced leaving the 700m and was obliged to shift wider to avoid heels. BEAU ISA – On pulling up M. McGillivray was dislodged, taking a seemingly harmless fall. Jockey McGillivray indicated that he was able to fulfil his remaining engagements. I’VE GOT FRIENDS – Began awkwardly and shifted in. ARCHIE LUXURY – Steadied from heels at the 1100m. Overraced in the early and middle stages and refused to settle. Hung in noticeably over the last 300m of the event. FALKIRK DRIVE – Slow to begin. Tightened momentarily approaching the 100m. OTOSHI – Steadied from heels at the 1100m. B. Ainsworth, the rider of TE RANGI, was advised to exercise greater care when crossing. Raced three wide throughout. Race 6: IPSWICH LIAG/CLUB SERVICES IPSWICH RATINGS BAND 0 – 60 H’CAP – 1200M SCOTCHVIEW – Underwent a veterinary examination following an incident in the parade ring and was passed fit to race. Slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages, refusing to settle, and raced three wide throughout. Hung in under pressure over the final 200m. THE HUSSLER – Trainer K. Schweida advised that it would be the intention to have the horse ridden in the second half of the field. The horse was ridden accordingly. Laid in under pressure over the final 250m. LYRICAL PRINCE – Trainer G. Doughty was questioned regarding a perceived improvement in the gelding’s performance today. Mr Doughty advised that the horse had trialled impressively leading into its first run this preparation at Sunshine Coast where, after beginning reasonably, the horse was then obliged to race three wide throughout. Mr Doughty added that he felt the horse would have a preference for the yielding surface at Ipswich and indicated that the horse has performed best previously when able to lead or be handy. Stewards, after reviewing the recent performance of LYRICAL PRINCE, noted Mr Doughty’s comments. OVERGROWN – Hung in under pressure over the final 200m. ALPENGLOW – Began moderately. Race 7: RIVERLINK SHOPPING CENTRE CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1350M Trainer D. Duryea was fined $100 for the late declaration of M. McGillivray as the rider of ABLE ENGINE. Trainer B. Currie was fined $200 for failing to scratch HINCHINSTYLE (7:55 am) by the prescribed time. RULER’S PRIDE – Reared as the gates were released and lost ground. DESERT RUSH – Raced three wide with cover. HEARTS HONOUR – Pulled very hard between the 900m and the 600m, momentarily shifting wider. ABLE ENGINE – Jumped awkwardly and shifted out. Raced three wide. STUDLY ROOSTER – Slow to begin. Tired noticeably over the final 200m of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Fraser reported that the gelding may not have appreciated today’s racing surface. MADAM MOUTON – Began moderately. ENGRAVED – Raced three wide with cover.
