Carey _________________________________ QRIC stewards conducted a track inspection on Tuesday 25th September 2019 after they had been advised that a section of the track from the winning post to the crossing near the 1500m had received up to 30 mls of water following a malfunction of the irrigation system on Monday evening. The inspection conducted on Tuesday found that whilst that section of the track was of concern, it was heavy, it was deemed that every opportunity be given for it to recover to allow the meeting to proceed today. Upon receipt of advice at 6 am this morning from the track manager, that no further rain had fallen since yesterdays’ inspection, Stewards contacted a number of riders and requested their early arrival to join in a further inspection of the track. Following this inspection, the jockeys that were present were of the unanimous view that whilst the majority of the course proper was safe for racing, the section of the track immediately past the winning post had not recovered sufficiently to allow the riders to safely restrain their horses on pulling up. Based on this advice, stewards were of the view that it would not be appropriate to disregard their concerns and therefore felt that they had no other option but to declare at 12 midday that the meeting not proceed. __________________________________
