VENETIAN BEAUTY – Caught wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward to assume a position outside the leader near the 1000m. TRISTAN DE ANGEL – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted and also his riding from the 600m, apprentice C. Gallagher stated that after being caught wide in the early stages he elected to restrain and obtain a position with cover at the rear of the field. He added that approaching the 600m the gelding was left flatfooted when the pace of the race increased, and for this reason he elected to improve to the inside and save ground rather than shift wider on the track at this stage. He further added that once entering the home straight he was able to obtain clear running and the gelding finished the race off strongly. Stewards noted his comments. SO YOU WISH – Jockey M. Cahill was fined $200 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. Blinkers were not advertised, however as the gelding had raced in this gear at its last start, this was not a gear change and therefore stewards permitted the horse to race in blinkers/pacifiers. LAVINGTON STAR – Slow to begin. CRAB BOY – Overraced in the middle stages. SHOW ‘EM – Raced keenly in the middle stages. GREYWOLF – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. FANX – When questioned regarding his riding over the concluding stages, jockey R. Plumb explained that after working hard in the early stages to obtain the lead, his mount failed to respond when placed under pressure in the home straight, and as he was of the view that his mount was well beaten he therefore elected to not pressure the gelding over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Stewards advised jockey R. Plumb that in similar circumstances he would be expected to continue riding his mount out to the end of the race in future. Race 5: T&G Insurance Brokers Class 2 H’cap – 1350m LE DRAMA – Jockey L. RHYTHM OF LIGHT – A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which weakened from the 600m and finished a distant last, revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G. Ryan was advised that horse’s nomination would be rejected at provincial meetings until such time as it re-established form at country venues. Race 6: Queensland Thermo King CG&E Class 1 H’cap – 1100m AIRACOBRA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. BIG DAN THE MAN – Slow to begin. UPPER AVENUE – Shifted out at the start and bumped BEBADO. Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race. BEBADO – Bumped at the start. Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred near the 900m, which resulted in the addicted being severely tightened for room and losing ground, PROSSIMITA being placed in restricted room, UPPER AVENUE also being placed in restricted room and having to be checked. After taking evidence from the riders in the vicinity, it was established that leading up to the incident, UPPER AVENUE shifted in and away from PITBULL, making contact with PROSSIMITA, which then commenced to lay in and made contact with ADDICTED, AIRCOBRA, which was racing on the fence, also received tightening and had to be steadied. In considering the matter, stewards determined that PITBULL had shifted in to take up the room which was vacated when UPPER AVENUE shifted in, and also ALL IMPORTANT had shifted in following PITBULL inwards. As stewards were not comfortably satisfied that any one rider could be held fully responsible for the incident no further action was taken and reported the incident. ADDICTED – Near the 900m severely tightened for room, blundered and lost ground. BIG DAN THE MAN – Checked near the 900m. BEBADO – Eased to avoid heels near the 900m.
