QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT IPSWICH TURF CLUB – SATURDAY 5 JANUARY 2019 WEATHER – FINE RAIL – TRUE PENETROMETER – 5TRACK RATING – GOOD 4/GOOD 3 (After Race 1) OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – P. WallaceStewards Secretary – W. Ostrofski Race 1: GO RACING @IPSWICHTURFCLUB MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M The start of this race was delayed to allow for an interstate event in progress. FOLLOW THE MONEY – Cast the near hind plate in running. CLASSY JANA – Began awkwardly. DAISY’S APART – Raced four wide in the early stages before receiving cover near the 700m. PENTAFORMANCE – Tightened on jumping between PRINCESS MONA and NORTHERN DRAGON. Shifted in approaching the 800m. When questioned regarding the incident, jockey B. Powell stated that at that particular point of the race he felt the horse was failing to respond when asked to steady away from SUPER FREAK. Stewards, considering the evidence, noted the explanation tendered by jockey Powell and also asked that in future he exercise greater care when crossing. Began to tire significantly approaching the 600m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which could find no apparent abnormalities. Stewards, after considering today’s poor performance, advised connections that the mare would be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial before its nominations were accepted in the future. Trainer C. O’Neill also indicated that it was the likely intention that the mare would be retired. SUPER FREAK – Raced four wide in the early stages before positioning outside the leader near the 600m. Momentarily steadied from heels near the 800m. Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 3. Race 2: IPSWICH RACING MUSEUM ROOM HIRE CLASS 3 PLATE – 1666M WAS IT WORTH IT – Due to the moderate tempo, the rider elected to ease wider on the course and improve his position from the 700m. IRON CRAFT – After being urged forward from the start and being trapped wide on the course, the rider elected to ease and take cover near the 1300m. ABERLADY – Slow to muster speed in the early stages. Again ridden hard approaching the 600m when the tempo increased. Race 3: CARLTON MID MAIDEN H’CAP – 1666M LOLA’S DIAMOND – When easing wider on the course nearing the home turn, bumped with LILIERO on two occasions. SHINING BLUE was forced wider and inconvenienced as a result. SMOKEY DIAMOND – Hung out rounding the home turn and upon entering the home straight was inclined to lay in. ELMO’S FIRE – Began moderately. Overraced in the early stages. SHINING BLUE – Forced wider and inconvenienced nearing the home turn. LILIERO – Bumped by LOLA’S DIAMOND on two occasions near the home turn. AMIRAT JAMILA – Fractious in the barriers and reared. QUEEN OF HAVANA – Began to tire approaching the home turn and wanted to lay out significantly. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Trainer M. Nolan was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. LENNON’S PADDOCK – Inconvenienced by the tiring QUEEN OF HAVANA approaching the home turn. Race 4: SIRROMET QTIS 3YO C&G MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M KING ALFONSO – Overraced in the middle stages. MINOR LUCK – Disappointed for a run approaching the 200m and was unable to be tested over the final 150m. WEALTH’N’POWER – Hung in over the final 50m. DAUNTING WARRIOR – Awkward into stride. Had to steady away from the heels of DANETIST near the 300m. Momentarily steadied near the 50m when WEALTH’N’POWER shifted in. JACK DERIPPA – Forced wider by DREAM PIECE approaching the home turn. NOBLE ARTIST – Hung out rounding the home turn. DREAM PIECE – Hung off approaching the home turn. LAKE HILLIER – Raced three wide for the majority of the event. Race 5: SCHWEPPES QTIS 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M BEYOND DESIRE and TRUE QUALITY were late scratchings at 7:40 am for acceptable reasons. BOOM GIRL – Started at $3.40 and proved disappointing throughout. Jockey P. Hammersley was asked to comment regarding the horse’s poor performance. He explained that after initially jumping well and setting slightly further back than he had intended, the filly failed to respond to his riding and again near the 600m when placed under pressure did not respond to his urgings and proved disappointing. Trainer C. Meagher’s stable representative was advised that the filly would now need to trial to the stewards’ satisfaction prior to the resumption of racing. The stable also indicated that they may remove the blinkers for its next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. COURAGEOUS CHLOE – Hung in under pressure over the final 200m. SASSY STYLE – Overraced in the middle stages. PADDLES – Slow into stride. BALERION – Raced greenly throughout. Raced ungenerously and got its head up approaching the home turn. Disappointed for a run near the 250m and was obliged to shift back nearer the rail to obtain clear running. TOP EVIE – Overraced in the middle stages. Obliged to steady near the 900m. Cast the off fore plate in running. Held up for clear running approaching the home turn. MAJIKKUTESA – Obliged to steady from the heels of LARBAUD near the 1000m. Raced three wide for the majority of the event. Race 6: QUEENSLAND TIMES BENCHMARK 85 H’CAP – 1000M SPURCRAFT – Began moderately and shortly thereafter was tightened between WUDANG BLADE and BASARA, resulting in the gelding settling further back than anticipated. Steadied near the 800m. Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event. DIVINE SERVICE – Fractious in the gates and began awkwardly. BASARA – Raced wide for the majority of the event. ZOUZOUKAKIA – Tightened near the 800m and shifted in. WUDANG BLADE – Hung in near the 800m, tightening ZOUZOUKAKIA, which in turn shifted in forcing BOLD XAVVI on to the rails. BOLD XAVVI was also obliged to steady at that point from the heels of VICEMAN. Raced wide for the majority of the event. BOLD XAVVI – Obliged to steady from the heels of VICEMAN near the 800m. Held up approaching the home turn. Race 7: RIVER 94.9FM CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M PRINCELY SUM – Overraced in the middle stages. REGIMENTAL FORCE – Began awkwardly. Bumped near the 180m. SPIRIT’S PRIDE – Hung in approaching the home turn. Disappointed for a run approaching the 150m between OKOCHI ARCHER and PETAIN. BIMINI ROAD – Hung and shifted out near the 180m, bumping REGIMENTAL FORCE. STAR ADELE – Began moderately and shortly after was bumped and lost several lengths. During this incident jockey Hellyer’s left foot was dislodged from the iron, placing him in some difficulty for a short distance. Race 8: ENTERTAIN AT THE ITC CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M BOSS’S BOY – Raced three wide for the majority of the event. GWAPO – Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event. JET’N’WILD – Slow into stride. FAST VISION – Began moderately. Overraced in the middle stages. BOLD CENTURION – Slow into stride.
