Race 2: STRUDDY’S BENCHMARK 85 H’CAP – 1666M

No racing incidents.

Race 3: SAMMUT BULOW CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable Stewards to view the patrol footage to ascertain whether FISH ON had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the films, Stewards were of the opinion that FISH ON turned its head into the adjoining barrier shortly after the start being effected and, as a result, lost considerable ground. As Stewards deemed that this incident occurred due to the horse’s own manners, they were satisfied that it had been afforded a fair start, and therefore declared it a runner.

EXCELAMOUR – Bumped by BOOM BOY after passing the 100m when that runner laid in under riding and, as a result, raced in restricted room the over final 25m and was unable to be fully tested.

BOOM BOY – Commenced to overrace whilst racing 3 wide in the early stages, and had to be restrained from the heels of EXCELAMOUR. Raced 3 wide without cover for the remainder. Laid in under hard riding over the final 100m and, as a result, tightened runners to its inside. Jockey A. Fancourt was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

FRIENDS – Began awkwardly and shifted in.

BURNING SUCCESS – Trainer. B. Witt was fined $100 for the late declaration of App. C. Frater-Hill as rider. App. C. Frater-Hill appeared to lose the use of her off side iron after passing the winning post and, as a result, became unbalanced and was almost dislodged.

Race 4: THE ACS GROUP QLD FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M

WICKED MAMA – Began awkwardly.

ZODIAC STAR – Bumped on jumping away.

GARIFULLINA – Slow to begin and bumped shortly after the start. Failed to respond when placed under pressure passing the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which performed below market expectation, revealed no apparent abnormalities.

CLASSY JANA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had bled from both nostrils. Trainer B. Dais was advised that the mare will be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward. Trainer B. Dais advised that he may now consider retiring the mare from racing.

PIN DE LADY – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Laid in passing the 300m despite the efforts of its rider, and became awkwardly placed at the heels of CLASSY JANA.

THE LAST ROAD – As App. C. Gallagher was dually engaged in this race due to a clerical error which incorrectly omitted the THE LAST ROAD from the field, Stewards permitted the late declaration of App. C. Frater-Hill as rider. Improved onto heels and had to be restrained passing the 300m, and then shifted back to the inside in an attempt to secure clear running.

SMOKIN’ HUSSAY – Began awkwardly. Forced wider on the track rounding the home turn when SMARTCELLI shifted out to improve.

LENNON’S PADDOCK – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Race 5: ACE ELECTRICAL & LIGHTING CLASS 5 PLATE – 1350M

The start of this race was slightly delayed to ensure that a dog, which was in the vicinity of the outside rail near the 1000m, was not going to have any impact on the running of this race.

BRATISLAVA – Trainer B. Witt was fined $100 for the late declaration of S. Doyle as rider.

I WANNA BE A JEEP – App. C. Bayliss was fined $300 for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration the totality of Apprentice Bayliss’ whip use and his recent poor record in relation to this rule.

NOTHINGFORTHEPRESS – Laid out after passing the 500m. Shifted out slightly under hard riding over the final 100m.

SHOW ‘EM – Jockey E. Ljung was reprimanded for using her whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Ljung’s prior good record in relation to this rule.

Race 7: SWIFTS 100TH ANNIVERSARY RATINGS BAND 0 – 62 H’CAP – 1350M

GRANDIOSO – Disappointed for a run shortly after entering the home straight to the outside of MYBOYCELLITO when FAST ARLI improved to its outside and, as a result, GRANDIOSO had to alter course back to the inside to obtain clear running.

NORTHERN DIVINE – Began awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition.

SALT FLAT – After obtaining a position behind the leader on the fence passing the 1100m, the gelding appeared to race uncomfortably for a considerable distance before tiring in the run to the line. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

COLPO DI TAMBURO – Had to be steadied away from the heels of SALT FLAT after passing the 900m.

MYBOYCELLITO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had blood in its mouth due to a cut on its tongue.

Race 8: SWIFTS PASSED MEMBERS & PLAYERS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1666M

LI’L RODGE – Jockey N. Tomizawa elected to shift to a 3 wide position to improve after passing the 900m.

PERFECT WITNESS – Began awkwardly.

BACCHUR – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the gelding to be ridden further back in the field today if circumstances permit. After jumping, the gelding was restrained and caught 3 wide, and was unable to obtain cover despite the efforts of its rider and, as a result, raced 3 wide in a forward position until a point passing the 900m where it obtained cover. Commenced to weaken after passing the 400m, and was slightly cramped for room by runners to its outside which were laying in slightly, and had to be steadied away from the heels of GLENTURRET which was weakening.

ROCKING OSSIE – Slow to begin.

SPECIAL THING – Improved to a 3 wide position after passing the 700m.
