Race 1: Ipswich Cup 15 June Maiden Plate – 1200m

A LITTLE CRAFTY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Passing the 900m commenced to overrace and shifted in and away from JUST GIVEME RUBIES, which was racing to its outside, and in doing so tightened runners to its inside. Approaching the 600m when overracing had to be shifted away from the heels of JUST GIVEME RUBIES and in doing so made heavy contact with TRESTRAIL forcing that runner wider on the track.

TRESTRAIL - Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.  Raced three wide without cover throughout.

MORGAUSE – Passing the 1100m had to be steadied when tightened for room by SLEEPY HEART, which shifted in, and in doing so made contact with DIAMOND JESS. Passing the 900m again had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of A LITTLE CRAFTY. Jockey R. Stewart (SLEEPY HEART) was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.

DIAMOND JESS – Passing the 1100m was bumped by MORGAUSE.

Race 2: Go Racing @IpswichTurfClub QTIS 2YO Fillies Maiden Plate – 1200m

LADY BELZONE – Bumped on jumping.

REAL FOXY LADY – Began awkwardly and bumped LADY BELZONE.

MOA’S GIRL – Slow into stride.

HOWITZER – Passing the 1000m commenced to overrace when racing in a rearward position and had to be steadied. Again passing the 700m had to be steadied.

REEF BUG – After passing the 100m raced greenly and shifted out abruptly.

Race 3: Sky Racing QTIS 2YO Colts & Geldings Maiden Plate – 1200m

LEADBURN LION – Began awkwardly.

KALIK – Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance today trainer T. Haydon explained that at its first start it had a tendency to overrace and was slightly inconvenienced rounding the home turn and weakened late over the concluding stages. Mr Haydon added following that race he was of the opinion that the gelding would improve with that run however, he elected to trial the gelding prior to racing and in that trial changed the bit and added a tongue tie in an attempt to have the gelding settle better in its races. Mr Haydon further added that the gelding subsequently trialled well in that gear and was ridden in a similar manner today, which including added fitness contributed to its improved performance. Stewards accepted the explanation.

PICTON – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

EMBATTLED – Hampered on jumping. After passing the 1000m commenced to overrace and laid in, became awkwardly placed at the heels of LEADBURN LION, clipped heels and blundered. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to the off fore knee.

JOE ALBERT – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

Race 4:  Channel Seven Class 3 Plate – 1680m

FOXY AFFAIR – Hampered on jumping.

SO YOU WISH – Shortly after the start commenced to overrace when being restrained to take up a position towards the rear of the field. After passing the 800m commenced to lose ground and was then placed under pressure by its rider and failed to respond finishing at the rear of the field.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

STARKERS – Shortly after the start lost its off hind plate in running.

Race 5: Grandview Stud Class 5 Handicap – 1200m

After being injured in the float en route to the track ZOU DER ZEE was subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 12.45 p.m. after it was found to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer K. Kemp was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to the gelding racing again.

MR STRACHAN – Bumped by ELUSIVE MELODY approaching the winning post.

ELUSIVE MELODY – Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.

Race 6: Ray White Ipswich Fillies & Mares BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1100m

SOFT TOP – Fractious in the gates prior to the start being effected. Began awkwardly and lost ground.

SAILOR GERRI – After passing the 1000m brushed the running rail of its own accord.

CLOCKWISE – Raced keenly when in a trailing position at the rear of the field.

LADY I AM – When asked to explain the performance jockey J. Lloyd  stated that even though the mare has raced in a rearward position he did attempt to hold it forward but was unable to do so and the mare travelled reasonable throughout the event. Jockey Lloyd further stated that when placed under pressure the mare failed to quicken and in his opinion may appreciate distances further than that of today.

Race 7: Ipswich Cup Tix On Sale Colts, Geldings & Entires BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1100m

Trainer T. Gollan was fined $100 for the late declaration of J. Lloyd as the rider of DON’T YOU KNOW HIM.

MR STORM – Fractious in the gates prior to the start being effected. Bumped on jumping.

PAPER TRADE – Fractious in the gates, reared as the start was effected and lost ground.

THE BIG HOUSE – Bumped on jumping. Passing the 900m the rider had difficulty when obtaining cover when the colt got its head up and raced ungenerously. A post race veterinary examination revealed the colt had suffered a bleeding attack during the event. Trainer T. Sears was advised the colt will now incur a three  month ban from racing and must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again.

AJANI – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

Race 8: Kids Play Free @ Labour Day Races BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1350m
