Ostrofski GENERAL As the Gunnedah meeting had been abandoned, the starting times for Races 1 to 7 were rescheduled as follows: Race 1 – 1:05 pm Race 2 – 1:40 pm Race 3 – 2:15 pm Race 4 – 2:50 pm Race 5 – 3:25 pm Race 6 – 4:05 pm Race 7 – 4:40 pm As B. Shinn, J. Woodhouse and C. Gallagher were not riding due to illness, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 1: CFMEU SAFETY IS UNION BUSINESS QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1666M ROSENDAHL RED – Slow into stride. Bumped by KNUCKLE UP rounding the home turn and then had some difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance. When asked to comment on the horse’s performance, apprentice J. Hodge indicated that the filly travelled well in the run and shortly after straightening, when attempting a tight run, the filly may not have appreciated being cluttered up at that point. He added that once clear the filly finished the race off fairly and in his opinion may not have been suited to today’s track conditions. LOVES A LOTTERY – Began awkwardly. ARC OF GOLD – Began awkwardly. KNUCKLE UP – Slow to begin. Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to SOFT 7. Race 2: CFMEU CHANGE THE RULES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1666M After being loaded into the barriers WICKED HEIGHTS became fractious and lunged at the front gates. After being removed from the barriers and examined by the veterinary surgeon the gelding was cleared to start. The horse also had to be resaddled. STRONG DESIRE, which was drawn in the adjoining stall, was also removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. WHERE’S THE MONEY – Stood flat-footed at the start, then began awkwardly and shifted out, losing considerable ground. After passing the 900m, due to the slow tempo, rider J. Orman elected to shift his mount three wide and improve forward to obtain a position outside the lead passing the 600m. STRONG DESIRE – Laid in approaching the 100m and then was disappointed for a run to the outside of WICKED HEIGHTS and to the inside of QUOTANT, which shifted in slightly. QUOTANT – Laid out passing the 400m. Laid in over the final 100m. LET’S BOOM – Held up for a short distance after passing the 400m. Race 3: ‘DIGGER’ MURPHY MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M Trainer M. Brosnan was fined $100 for failing to declare M. Hellyer as the rider of TEMPER TEMPER by the prescribed time. HEAVENLY JOURNEY – Slipped behind on jumping and lost ground. EVENING – Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover behind the leader. Held up rounding the home turn. Race 4: JO-ANN MILLER MP F&M CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M SHINJIN – Bumped on jumping. SUNNY ST CLOUD – Brushed the running rail rounding the home turn. LADY CHICAGO – Bumped on jumping. SOLO ARTIST – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Forced four wide approaching the 600m when FLOWER OF LOVE shifted out to improve. Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to SOFT 6. Race 5: CFMEU COMMON CAUSE C,G&E CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M Trainer B. Robinson was fined $100 for failing to declare M. Hellyer as the rider of MR KYLIN by the prescribed time. IL RICCIO – Began awkwardly. TIMPERLEY – Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m, causing its rider to stop riding. Race 6: CFMEU MINING AND ENERGY CUP PROVINCIAL STAYERS BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 2150M HIPPOPUS – Placed under pressure passing the 900m, failed to respond and commenced to weaken, finishing a distant last. Trainer S. Barker advised that this was only the third run for the stable today. He was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for its poor performance. LITTLE RED DEVIL – Tightened for room on jumping. Raced three wide without cover in the early stages before striding forward to obtain the position outside the leader passing the 1500m. IT AIN’T ALL HONEY – Began awkwardly. Elected to shift three wide to improve passing the 1100m and obtained the position outside the leader. THE ZOFF – Commenced to overrace approaching the winning post on the first occasion and resented being restrained. Laid in under pressure over the final 250m. Race 7: THE MEATWORKERS’ UNION SPRINTERS CLASS 4 PLATE – 1350M BAREFOOT TYCOON – Began awkwardly, made contact with the hind quarters of MAIL ESCORT and lost ground. BRYNEICH – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Laid in rounding the home turn, tightening VENETIAN BEAUTY, and then continued to lay in in the home straight when placed under pressure. SHAUQUIN – Began awkwardly. MAIL ESCORT – Bumped on the hind quarters on jumping. HAYLEE PRINCE – Cast the off hind plate in running.
