STEWARDS REPORT

IPSWICH TURF CLUB – FRIDAY 24 MAY 2019

WEATHER – FINE                           TRACK RATING –  GOOD 4/GOOD 3 (After Race 3)
RAIL – 10M                                       PENETROMETER – 4.1

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – J. Williamson
Stewards – K. Daly, G. Goold, B. Connell
Clerk of Scales – R. Hanson
Judge – S. Fahey, M. Fahey
Veterinarian – Dr A. Murdoch
Swab Attendants – K. Warwick, J. Crompton
Starter – C. Wallace
Stewards Secretary – W. Ostrofski

Race 1: RIVER 94.9 MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1020M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to afford N. Thomas the opportunity of viewing the stewards’ patrol footage in the straight to determine whether he had grounds on which to lodge an objection. After viewing the videos jockey Thomas indicated that he did not wish to proceed and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.

ACEPLAY – Bumped by another runner on jumping away. Raced three wide throughout. Laid in shortly after entering the home straight when placed under pressure.

DE NOVA STELLA – Apprentice H. Phillips reported that her mount raced greenly throughout.

MAS DINERO – Jumped awkwardly and made contact with another runner. Raced three wide without cover. Raced greenly throughout, particularly when placed under pressure shortly after straightening. Trainer B. Hill was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer B. Hill undertook to report to stewards anything that may come to light in ensuing days which may have had an effect on the performance.

OMORFOS – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.

STEPPED IN PAINT – Overraced for a short distance passing the 800m.

CLAIRVUE SPIRIT – After blood was noticed in its mouth the horse was examined behind the barriers by the veterinary surgeon, who reported that the gelding had a minor laceration on its tongue, and was cleared to race. Jumped very awkwardly, made heavy contact with the barrier partition and lost ground. Disappointed for a run approaching the 200m and was obliged to shift out to secure clear running as a result.

Race 2: WESTERN RAG & SAFETY MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1200M

The start of this race was delayed when BOSENDI proved difficult to load. Trainer A. Graham was advised that the gelding will be required to barrier trial before being permitted to race again.

MT PILATUS – Shifted out to improve near the 700m and raced wide from that point onwards.

AMENDOLA – Raced three wide without cover.

NOM DE THEATRE – Jumped awkwardly, made contact with another runner and lost ground. N. Thomas was asked to comment on the tactics adopted on his mount as the horse was ridden at the tail of the field, which was in contrast to the horse’s most recent starts. He indicated that it had been his intention to race in a more forward position, however, after being fractious in the barriers and jumping very awkwardly he was obliged to settle at the tail of the field. Stewards accepted the explanation.

AMERICAN LOVE – Overraced in the middle stages and had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn.

LUVDISC – Held up for clear running from the 300m and was awkwardly placed at heels for the remainder of the event and went to the line without being fully tested. Stewards questioned jockey R. Fradd in relation to his positioning of the filly in the home straight, which ultimately led to the horse being held up, as to whether he had an opportunity to improve to the inside of LOPE DE LADY when entering the home straight. Jockey Fradd indicated that he had given consideration to attempting to improve to the inside of that horse, however, there was not a full run afforded to him at this point between that runner and TEEANCEE, which was commencing to weaken. He added that after passing the 200m he had committed to the outside of the heels of LOPE DE LADY and he was unable therefore to shift back to the inside of that runner when LOPE DE LADY shifted out under pressure. Stewards reviewed the video with jockey Fradd and accepted the explanation.

PERFECT SAGA – Jumped awkwardly, made heavy contact with the barrier partition and lost ground. Held up in the early stages of the home straight until leaving the 100m.

Race 3: FALVEY’S GRAND HOTEL CLASS 4 H – 1020M

Trainer R. Lyford was fined $100 for failing to declare T. Harrison as the rider of SNIPETRON, by the prescribed time.

Trainer M. Eggleston was fined $100 for failing to declare J. Taylor as the rider of DITMAS, by the prescribed time.

ROCK BEAT – Jumped awkwardly and bumped heavily with another runner.

GOOD TIME CHARLIE – Overraced in the middle stages.

V J DAY – Jumped awkwardly and bumped heavily with another runner.

DITMAS – Jumped awkwardly and bumped heavily with another runner.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 3.

Race 4: GRANNY’S GOSSIP QTIS 3YO BENCHMARK 65 H'CAP – 1710M

COASTAL PRINCE – Jumped awkwardly and was steadied as a result.

PIERRE BIZEL – Shifted wider to improve from the 700m and raced wide from that point onwards.

FINNFERNO – Fractious in the barriers and as a result began awkwardly and lost significant ground. The horse was then ridden aggressively in an attempt to obtain a position in the lead, however, was unable to cross runners to the inside and as a result raced three wide outside the lead without cover.

Race 5: SWIFTS HOCKEY CLUB C,G&E CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1350M

The start of this race was delayed significantly when STRIKING DISTANCE proved difficult to load. The horse reared as the start was effected and made heavy contact with the barrier crossbar, suffering a significant injury to its head and as a result jockey R. Wiggins restrained the horse out of the event. Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards viewed the patrol footage and declared the horse a runner as it had not been denied a fair start. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required and the horse must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next start.

KING DINISTY – Laid in over the concluding stages, made contact with the running rail and became very awkward when passing the winning post.

BULLET SHOT – Bled from both nostrils, first time. The horse will be ineligible to start for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.

NOBLE TRUTH – Laid out under pressure throughout the event and placed its rider at a disadvantage in the home straight.

QUANYIN – Slow to begin. Found to have a slow post-race recovery when inspected by the veterinary surgeon.

PRINCESS CAVALLO – Raced three wide without cover.

LADY VIXEN – Stewards permitted apprentice N. Fazackerley to ride the mare without claiming any of his allowance when there was no other apprentice rider available to replace him. Apprentice Fazackerley was fined $100. Slow to begin.

Trainer B. Dais was reprimanded for failing to scratch ROSSMAY (7:38 am) by the prescribed time.

CONSULAR – Laid in whilst weakening rounding the home turn.

HEZ EKCEPTIONAL – Attempted to shift wider on the track to improve near the 700m and was held up until approaching the 500m. Again obliged to race in restricted room near the 400m. Continued to be held up until near the 250m.

LI’L RODGE – Slow to begin. Obliged to steady when unable to secure clear running near the 500m.

SECRET AGENT MAN – Slow to begin.

GRANDE CASADORA – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

ROCK DANCER – Very slow to begin and then clipped heels shortly after the start and blundered.
