SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Beaudesert Hibernian Race Club 18 May 2019 –

Race 3: Class 2 1200m

Stewards concluded their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding UNO AMOR and CONQUERMORE falling near the 600m. After taking evidence from B. Pengelly (HARD YAGA), apprentice S. Tomlinson (MISHANI RULER), assisted by his master Mr L. Ross, L. Tilley (CONQUERMORE), J. Oliver (MIDNIGHT MATINEE) and apprentice A. Thompson (UNO AMOR), assisted by his master Mr P. Hulbert, and after viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, stewards were of the opinion that near the 800m MISHANI RULER had shifted in causing tightening to UNO AMOR and HARD YAGA, which continued for a short distance, allowing MIDNIGHT MATINEE, which was racing forward of MISHANI RULER, to be able to hold a three-wide position approaching the turn near the 600m, until it appeared to lose some ground at the time HARD YAGA had shifted out slightly, resulting in MISHANI RULER becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of MIDNIGHT MATINEE and when attempting to hold its position shifted in slightly, causing UNO AMOR to be tightened for room and clip the heels of HARD YAGA and fall. CONQUERMORE, which was following, was unable to avoid UNO AMOR and fell.

In all the circumstances, stewards considered a number of contributing factors and noted that whilst apprentice S Tomlinson had caused tightening to runners leading up to the incident, stewards were satisfied with the effort from apprentice Tomlinson to relieve that pressure and were of the view that the incident was not as a result of any carelessness from any rider and therefore took no further action.

Race 2: Class 3 1650m

At a subsequent inquiry apprentice A. Thompson (SUPERVISOR), in the presence of his master Mr P. Hulbert, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) for permitting his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of COMMISSIONER when passing the winning post on the first occasion resulting in COMMISSIONER having to be checked. Apprentice A. Thompson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, to commence midnight 2 June 2019 and to expire midnight 11 June 2019.

Overraced when in a trailing position approaching the winning post on the first occasion. When the pace steadied in the middle stages, rider R. Fradd elected to shift three wide to improve passing the 800m. Forced four wide passing the 700m when SEARING SPEED, which was racing to the inside, shifted out to improve.
