DISTRICT – Inclined to overrace in the early stages.

Race 2: CARLTON MID QTIS 2YO H'CAP – 800M

The start of this race was delayed when COMBAT KID, which kicked out badly in the gates, underwent a veterinary examination which revealed that the gelding had sustained lacerations to the outside of its right hock. COMBAT KID was withdrawn at 12:52 pm on veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on COMBAT KID be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 12:52 pm:

24 cents in the dollar for the win #10
24 cents in the dollar for place of winner #10
10 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4
30 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #7

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow R. Wiggins, the rider of 4th placegetter HARRINGTON, to exercise his right to review the film to determine whether he wished to lodge an objection, however, after review he indicated that he did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared.

BETTER THAN GOLD – Shifted out shortly after the start. Put in an awkward stride approaching the home turn and was forced wider on the track by HARRINGTON.

Mr Kropp was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners.
