Trainer K. Schweida was reprimanded for failing to enter a stable return noting that SUNLANDER has now been gelded.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a GOOD 3.

Race 3: Lyndons Pty Ltd QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap – 1350m

RAINGURL – Began awkwardly and shifted out making heavy contact with MISS CHUCKLE.

MISS CHUCKLE – Bumped heavily on jumping. After passing the finishing line the filly faulted badly and shortly thereafter its rider dismounted. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly had sustained critical injuries to the near fore sesamoid and acting on veterinary advice was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds. Blood and urine samples were taken.

ROARING SPIRIT – Bumped on jumping. Eased near the 1200m when crowded for racing room. Inclined to  lay out approaching the home turn before shortly after being bumped by STAR CENTRE, which was improving to its inside. ROARING SPIRIT shortly thereafter hung, shifted out and away from STAR CENTRE and made the home turn very wide.  Trainer S. Leef was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding in relation to its racing manners in hanging out.

MADAME MO – Near the 1100m was tightened for racing room between runners and had to be  eased to a three wide trailing position.

SAMPHIRE HOE – Obliged to steady from the heels of ROARING SPIRIT and was inconvenienced when that runner shifted wider on the home turn. Shortly thereafter was again forced very wide on the home turn by ROARING SPIRIT.

MIGHTY MOOSE – Rounding the home turn was tightened between runners and checked losing ground. Raced three wide throughout. Stewards after inquiring into the incident on the home turn, taking evidence from jockeys M. Hellyer (WOWSERS), M McGillivray (WOOKIEE), J. Taylor (MIGHTY MOOSE) and R. Maloney (EXDREAM), noted that whilst WOWSERS had moved from a rails position to a position one off. Jockey McGillivray’s evidence stated that whilst WOOKIEE may have been forced wider he stated that the gelding had made the home turn awkwardly and proved difficult to ride thus contributing to MIGHTY MOOSE being checked between runners. Stewards after considering the incident could not attribute the interference suffered to MIGHTY MOOSE to any one particular rider or horse and noted the incident.

WOWSERS – Disappointed for a run between DEVILS MARBLES and EXDREAM near the 150m.

Race 5: Swifts Bowls Club Fillies & Mares Class 2 Handicap – 1200m

The start was slightly delayed when WICCAN REDE cast a near hind plate during the parade and was subsequently reshod behind the barriers.

CHARWAY – Slow into stride and shortly thereafter was tightened between runners. Stewards questioned App S. Thornton regarding the tactics adopted on CHARWAY. App Thornton stated that ideally the Stable would have preferred her to settle in a midfield position however, after being slowly away and then tightened raced in a rearward position. App Thornton further added whilst trailing ZOULOU DANCER leaving the 600m she felt that CHARWAY would be best suited held up for one run in the home straight, which would afford the mare its best opportunity. Stewards whilst noting the explanation provided by App Thornton felt that there may have been an opportunity to improve wider on the course approaching the home turn.
BOOM COUNTY – Began awkwardly and shifted in.

ZOULOU DANCER – Began moderately.

THE LAST SEQUALO – Hung out rounding the home turn and then shifted out when pressured in the run to the finish.

In assessing penalty Stewards noted that this was jockey Stewart’s eleventh breach of this Rule since January 2019.
