QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT IPSWICH TURF CLUB – WEDNESDAY 11 SEPTEMBER 2019 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4RAIL – TRUE ENTIRE COURSEPENETROMETER – 4.8 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – N. Wallace Stewards Secretary – S. Rolls Race 1: SKY RACING Maiden Plate – 1666m As Jockey R. Wiggins was overweight Stewards permitted J. Byrne to be substituted as the rider of LILIERO. Jockey Wiggins was fined $200. App N. Keal (RERUN) was charged under AR143(14) for only being able to claim 1½ kilos of his 2 kilo claim down to his riding weight. In considering penalty Stewards were mindful of his recent poor record in relation to this Rule. App Keal was subsequently fined $300. DRAGON INTHE NORTH – Blundered on jumping. STARLIGHTER – Began awkwardly. DON’T LOOK NOW – Began awkwardly. SECUNDUS – Bumped on jumping. Passing the 1500m laid in away from DON’T LOOK NOW and in doing so made heavy contact with RERUN, which was racing to its inside. RERUN – After passing the 1500m crossing was bumped inwards by SECUNDUS and then made contact with the hind quarters of DRAGON INTHE NORTH and became unbalanced losing ground. Race 2: SIRROMET Class 5 Plate – 1200m HAPPY HOOVES – Began awkwardly. Forced wider rounding the home turn by THE LAST SEQUALO, which was taken out by BEACON. Laid in over the final 100m. THE TENOR – After beginning in a midfield position and being caught wide the rider elected to ease to obtain a position closer to the rail towards the rear of the field. Passing the 1000m when in a trailing position commenced to overrace and resented being restrained. Laid in under pressure over the final 200m. THE LAST SEQUALO – Rounding the home turn whilst weakening was bumped by BEACON, which shifted out in an attempt to improve. Race 3: CARLTON MID Maiden Handicap – 1200m MR AZRAY – Slow to begin. SUBMISSION – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 800m raced in restricted room between MASLOW and DENCH. DENCH – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1000m laid in away from PINEAPPLE BOOM, which was going forward to cross that runner. Shortly after was bumped on the hind quarters by PRECIZZLING, which shifted out. Raced three wide without cover after passing the 900m. Approaching the 800m laid in slightly hampering SUBMISSION. Passing the 500m was forced wider on the track when PRECIZZLING shifted out to improve. PRECIZZLING – Bumped on jumping. Rounding the home turn was bumped and forced wider by MASLOW, which shifted out to obtain clear running. PLUNGE – Shortly after jumping was hampered by PRECIZZLING, which shifted in. FIZZ – Shortly after the start was inconvenienced by PLUNGE, which was taken in by PRECIZZLING. MASLOW – Held up for a short distance after passing the 400m. Race 4: SCHWEPPES QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1100m As Jockey D. Smith was not riding at today’s meeting Stewards permitted R. Maloney to be substituted as the rider of MY BOY SAM. As Jockey R. Wiggins was overweight Stewards permitted R. Fradd to be substituted as the rider of LA TRIOLI. Jockey Wiggins was fined $200. LA TRIOLI – Fractious in the gates prior to the start being effected and began awkwardly. BEAUETA – Raced greenly in the early stages and brushed the running rail of its own accord passing the 700m. SOMNIA – Passing the 400m had to be steadied away from the heels of BEAUETA, which was hanging whilst weakening. ROMAN AUREUS – After passing the 100m had to be steadied away from the heels of MOSSFAIR and in doing so slightly inconvenienced ANGUS THE BLACK, which was racing to its outside. Race 5: RAY WHITE IPSWICH Class 3 Handicap – 1350m MARMARIS – Began awkwardly. Held up between the 400m and 300m. GREY SKIES – Slow into stride before mustering speed and obtaining the lead near the 1200m. TE RANGI – After beginning from a wide barrier was caught three wide without cover in the early stages before easing and obtaining cover passing the 800m. SOARING HEART – Held up for clear running after passing the 400m until approaching the 300m. Laid in under pressure over the final 200m. Race 6: RIVER 94.9FM Class 3 Plate – 2150m As Jockey M. McGillivray was not riding at today’s meeting Stewards permitted R. Maloney to be substituted as the rider of HE’S THE DEAL. EXPERT REPLY - Underwent a veterinary examination after slipping over in the tie-up stalls prior to the race and was passed fit to start. After racing in a forward position commenced to hang out after passing the 700m and proved disappointing over the final 300m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. INKULU – Shortly after the start was hampered when crowded for room between CONSULAR and SPICERS PEAK. Race 7: QUEENSLAND TIMES Class 2 Handicap – 1666m IRON CRAFT – Slow into stride and then bumped by COACH. After passing the 1400m commenced to overrace and got its head in the air when being restrained and continued to do so until a point passing the 1000m. After passing the 700m commenced to hang out for the remainder of the event. Jockey R. Fradd reported that in his opinion the gelding may have resented the norton bit. COACH – On jumping was bumped on the hind quarters by IRON CRAFT and became unbalanced. BERING SEA – Approaching the 1400m when overracing improved onto heels and in doing so hampered TOORAK COMEDY, which then had to be steadied away from that runner’s heels. Passing the 1300m resented being restrained and raced erratically for a short distance and proved difficult to ride. When asked to comment on the performance Jockey R. Maloney stated that the gelding proved difficult to ride in the early stages and at a point passing the 800m when asked to quicken into the race to follow AMICITIA failed to respond to his riding and from that point on proved disappointing. Jockey Maloney further added that in his opinion the gelding may not have appreciated today’s racing surface. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. TOORAK COMEDY – Approaching the 1400m was crowded for room by BERING SEA, which shifted in and had to be steadied away from heels. Race 8: TAB BENCHMARK 65 Handicap – 1100m The start was delayed when DIXIE after being loaded into the barriers kicked out and got its near hind leg cast. DIXIE was removed from the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. CUZCO – Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping SOLAR STAR. SOLAR STAR – Bumped on jumping and forced in tightening MAN MOUNTAIN. MAN MOUNTAIN – Shortly after the start was bumped by SOLAR STAR and lost ground. Raced keenly when in a rearward position and then commenced to weaken after passing the 400m and finished at the rear of the field. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer F. Hall was advised that it will now be her intention to retire the gelding. If circumstances were to change Stewards advised Ms Hall that prior to MAN MOUNTAIN being permitted to race again the results of an ECG must be produced and the gelding must trial satisfactorily. HI FIVER – Shortly after the start was bumped on the hind quarters by DIXIE and became unbalanced. JACK OF SPADES – Approaching the 500m was bumped by DIXIE when racing in restricted room to the inside of that runner. After racing in a rearward position and racing poorly Stewards advised Trainer F. Hall that the gelding’s nomination would be refused at TAB meetings until such time as it forms improves at country meetings.
