Race 1: QUEENSLAND TIMES QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 800M

The start of this race was delayed when WINTER RAIN became fractious in the barriers and got its leg through the rear gate. The filly was removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 12 noon on veterinary advice after the filly was found to have sustained a laceration to the inside of its near hock. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on WINTER RAIN be refunded with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

24 cents in the dollar for the Win #6
16 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6
22 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #12
24 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #5

Following the declaration of correct weight, Stewards were notified by the Judges that an error had occurred with the semaphoring of the 5th placegetter. After viewing the photo finish image and consulting with the Judge, Stewards, acting under AR. 214(4)(b), amended the placings to reflect that number 3 (STRUT) had placed 5th and number 9 (NOBLE WAR) had placed 6th.
