GENERAL
As L. Cassidy was not attending the meeting today due to injury, a riding replacement was made in Race 7 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
As B. Thornton was not attending the meeting today due to injury, a riding replacement was made in Race 7 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Thornton was advised that he will require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.
After arriving on course, Stewards and a delegation of riders inspected a section of the track near the 1150m on the course proper where some drainage work had recently been undertaken. The jockeys were of the view that there were some inconsistencies at that section of the track. The riders also expressed their view that that this section of the track may not be suitable to race over in Races 5 and 7.
Following the running of Race 2, Stewards and a number of riders again inspected the track near the 1150m, and advised Stewards that they were unwilling to race over that section of the track in Races 5 and 7. Stewards, in consultation with riders, Racing Queensland officials, and Ipswich Turf Club officials, acted under the provisions of AR. 21(f)(ii) to amend the race distances of Races 5 and 7 from 1666m to 1350m to avoid the section of the track near the 1150m on the course proper. Both the 1350m and 1200m starts were in chutes and did not race over the affected 1150m section.
Due to the distance changes in Races 5 and 7 from 1666m to 1350m, Stewards permitted a number of late scratchings as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: VALE ALAN SHUCK QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1350M
THE BROTHERHOOD – After being caught 3 wide in the early stages, the colt was allowed to stride forward to obtain the position outside the leader near the 1000m.
GAMBOA – Raced in restricted room when attempting a narrow run between D’CLONE and THE BROTHERHOOD rounding the home turn.
NICCI’S SPIRIT – Raced keenly when outside the leader in the early stages and, after being crossed by THE BROTHERHOOD passing the 1000m, continued to race keenly and was restrained from heels on a number of occasions.
Race 2: BENDIGO BANK BOOVAL BRANCH MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
ARIZONA SUN – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
PRINCESS JUDE – Began awkwardly, and became unbalanced after making heavy contact with the hindquarters of SIZZLING DIAMOND.
OUR OPINION – Raced greenly passing the 600m. Hung out rounding the home turn.
DE NOVA STELLA – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
GLOBAL CHOICE – Began awkwardly. Steadied away from the heels of SIZZLING DIAMOND approaching the 600m. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight, laid in and proved difficult to shift wider on the track to secure clear running.
SIZZLING DIAMOND – Bumped on the hindquarters by PRINCESS JUDE on jumping.
Race 3: WHITTINGTON @ GRANDVIEW STUD QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
TWO SMOKIN BARRELS – Improved into restricted room to the inside of SCANDINA passing the 800m, and had to be restrained.
RIVER ROCKET – After being caught 3 wide in the early stages, the gelding was allowed to stride forward to obtain the position outside the leader passing the 800m. Forced wider on the track by ELLYSAY which was hanging out approaching the 200m.
ELLYSAY – Hung out rounding the home turn, and continued to hang out in the home straight.
DAUNTING ADVENTURE – Began awkwardly. When racing in a rearward position, improved onto the heels of RED DENARO and was restrained at the 800m.
Race 4: TAB COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1200M
The start of this race was delayed when TACTICAL MOVE had to be resaddled behind the barriers.
ROTHABYE – Jockey P. Hamblin was reprimanded for using his whip on more occasions than permitted prior to the 100m.
BIG ARJAY – Hampered by TACTICAL MOVE approaching the 300m, and then when attempting a run to the outside of that runner and to the inside of FIREBOX, shifted out and bumped heavily with SAN PIERRE and became unbalanced.
SAN PIERRE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Bumped heavily by BIG ARJAY passing the 300m, and was forced out across the heels of FIREBOX and had to be restrained when awkwardly placed at that runners heels. Jockey M. Palmer, the rider of BIG ARJAY, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances in the future.
CHICAGO O’BRIEN – When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance, trainer J. Crompton advised that the gelding was only having its second start for her stable today. She advised that prior to its first start for the stable, the gelding had performed well in a jumpout, and at its first start had been unable to lead as it had done in its previous races in Melbourne prior to entering her stable. She added that she had been disappointed in the horse’s previous run and, with a slight freshen up, it had worked well in the lead up to today’s race. She went on to say that she had elected to remove the tongue-tie from the horse’s gear and had expected an improved performance if the gelding was able to lead today. Stewards noted the explanation.
FIREBOX – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
TACTICAL MOVE – Jockey M. Cahill reported that his saddle shifted back passing the 1000m which placed him at a significant disadvantage throughout the race. After being crossed by CHICAGO O’BRIEN passing the 800m, the gelding changed stride and blundered of its own accord. Hung out approaching the 300m and, in doing so, hampered BIG ARJAY.
OUTBACK STORM – Improved onto the heels of FA FA passing the 800m, and had to be restrained. Held up rounding the home turn.
Race 5: QUEENSLAND TIMES MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
The start of this race was delayed when APITHANOS had to be resaddled behind the barriers.
The start was further delayed when AROSEFORZOU, which was observed to have blood in its mouth, underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start.
NICOSMILE – Held up rounding the home turn.
APITHANOS – Began awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition. Held up rounding the home turn.
HERO STATUS – Hung in despite the efforts of its rider passing the 900m, and crowded CAPTAIN DONOVAN. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer R. Hurley will report to Stewards should anything come to light in the coming days which may have had a bearing on its racing manners today. Mr. Hurley further advised that it is now his intention to send the horse for an immediate spell. Nevertheless, Mr. Hurley was advised that the gelding will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
AROSEFORZOU – A post-race veterinary examination of the filly, which weakened in the home straight, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
HAWAIIAN GEM – Began awkwardly, and was then slow to muster early speed.
VITTORINA – Held up rounding the home turn.
Race 6: SKY RACING QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1350M
POINTSTOHAPPINESS – After being crossed by ANNABETH passing the 1200m, the gelding commenced to lay in whilst overracing and bumped VALET, and then continued to overrace and resented being restrained, and threw its head in the air on a number of occasions. Restrained from the heels of MISS CAVALLO passing the 700m and shifted out forcing CONCEALED DYNAMITE to a 4 wide position.
VALET – Slow to begin. Bumped by POINTSTOHAPPINESS, which shifted in passing the 1200m and, as a result, VALET became unbalanced.
ANNABETH – Laid out rounding the home turn.
CONCEALED DYNAMITE – Raced 3 wide without cover until passing the 700m where it was forced 4 wide.
Race 7: CHANNEL SEVEN CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
AND FINALLY – Slow to begin.
INCORRUPTIBILITY – Had some difficulty securing a clear run to the inside of THE KNIGHT after passing the 300m, and raced in restricted room until passing the 100m. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted after passing the 600m, jockey N. Tomizawa explained that after racing in a rearward position until that point, he elected to stay on the rail in an attempt to save ground rounding the home turn rather than shifting wider on the course. He further added that the previous winner and other winners during the day raced close to the rail, and upon straightening he therefore attempted to secure a run to the inside of THE KNIGHT but was slightly crowded and had difficulty securing clear running until passing the 100m, before being able to fully test his mount. Trainer K. Baumann agreed with the comments of jockey Tomizawa and further advised that the horse is better suited over greater distances than that of today’s race.
THE KNIGHT – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
MAKEUP – Slow to begin.
Race 8: GET SOCIAL @IPSWICHTURFCLUB FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1200M

STAR ADELE – Bumped on jumping. Crowded for room shortly after the start between MAC’S GAL and DO IT, and lost ground.
WOMAN OF GOLD – Held up for clear running passing the 300m before altering course back to the inside passing the 200m to secure clear running.
IN HER ZONE – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. Commenced to lay in when placed under pressure after passing the 300m which placed its rider at some disadvantage over the concluding stages.
