GENERAL
From Ipswich Wednesday 17.06.2020 – Race 10
A stable representative for Mr. R. Heathcote advised that TOO HARD TO MISS underwent an endoscopic examination which revealed the presence of ulcers. The stable advised that the mare will now be treated, and the results of a further endoscopic examination will be forwarded to Stewards prior to the mare next racing.
After arriving on course, Stewards undertook an inspection of the track and upgraded it from a Soft 5 to a Good 4 at 11.50am.
Race 1: CARLTON MID QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M
MASTER RICHARD – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out throughout.
MOONLIGHT ECLIPSE – Slow to begin.
ZIMBOOMBAH – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
NICCI’S SPIRIT – Bumped on jumping.
Race 2: SIRROMET QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1690M
REBEL ROCK – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with another runner. Laid out rounding the home turn. Crowded for room and bumped approaching the 50m and, as a result, was forced inwards.
CLASS OF ROYALTY – Shifted 3 wide to improve after passing the 800m. Bumped and forced inwards approaching the 50m when REBEL ROCK was crowded for room and taken in by KNIGHT MARINER. Apprentice B. Nothdurft, the rider of KNIGHT MARINER, was reprimanded under AR. 131(a) as a result of this incident.
KNIGHT MARINER – Shifted 4 wide to improve approaching the 700m, and was then restrained by its rider to improve into a run between ACCESSORY and MISHANI ROMANCE approaching the 500m. Shifted in under hard riding approaching the 50m and, in doing so, crowded runners to its inside. Apprentice B. Nothdurft was reprimanded under AR. 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, which is 1 more than permitted.
ACCESSORY – Bumped on jumping.
EXPERT EYE – After being crossed by REAGAN’S MISTAKE passing the 1300m, the filly resented being restrained and was steadied away from the heels of that runner and, in doing so, shifted out to obtain a position outside the leader.
MISHANI ROMANCE – Slow to begin.
Race 3: SCHWEPPES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
The start of this race was delayed when ARIZONA SUN proved reluctant to proceed to the barriers. The stable representative for trainer G. Heinrich was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.
The start was further delayed when HECANROCKME, which was was kicked by another runner behind the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
OUTBACK GLADIATOR – Held up rounding the home turn. Shied upon pulling up resulting in apprentice J. Huxtable being dislodged. Apprentice Huxtable was examined by Queensland Ambulance Officers and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagement.
PLAYTHEFIELD – Crowded for room by ARIZONA SUN which laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Raced in restricted room to the inside of ARIZONA SUN, which laid in and away from PRIVATE UNIVERSE passing the 1100m. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which proved disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
ZEELUCK – Hung in under pressure over the final 200m placing its rider at a disadvantage.
GOMATHI – Crowded for room by ARIZONA SUN which laid in despite the efforts of its rider.
OUT FOX’EM – Slow to begin. Jockey A. Spinks was reprimanded under AR. 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 7 times prior to the 100m, which is 2 more than permitted.
ZOUKINA – Restrained from the heels of GOMATHI passing the 900m. Held up approaching the home turn. Steadied away from the heels of TOP BABE passing the 300m before shifting wider on the track to secure clear running.
TOP BABE – Stewards acceded to a request to permit M. Cahill to ride the filly 0.5kg over its allotted weight. Laid out from the 400m.
ARIZONA SUN – Laid in and away from PRIVATE UNIVERSE passing the 1100m and, in doing so, crowded PLAYTHEFIELD.
STYK AT IT – Began awkwardly, and was then steadied from heels shortly after the start and lost ground.
Race 4: UNDER THE LOUVRE @ GRANDVIEW STUD BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1520M
FIGHTING HEART – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by trainer K. Gruenefeld regarding the late declaration of apprentice A. Thompson as rider. As the gelding had not raced for a significant period, it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Commenced to weaken when placed under pressure after passing the 600m, and finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer K. Gruenefeld advised that she will now give consideration to the horse’s racing future. Nevetherless, trainer K. Gruenefeld was advised that the gelding’s nomination at metropolitan meetings would be refused until such time as its form improves at provincial or country venues.
PRESSWAY – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping. Raced keenly when in a midfield trailing position in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure passing the 300m placing its rider at a disadvantage.
JOYMAKER – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by trainer K. Schweida regarding the late declaration of J. Orman as rider. Began awkwardly. Steadied and altered course to avoid the heels of DON’T WAIVER passing the 200m.
DON’T WAIVER – Held up approaching the home turn.
CAREERING AWAY – Improved onto heels over the final 50m and went to the line without being fully tested.
Race 5: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 78 H’CAP – 1690M
MY GIULIANO – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced keenly for a short distance after being crossed near the 1400m.
FOLLOW SUIT – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority. Bumped by FAIRY ME HOME, which laid in passing the 200m, and shortly after was eased when awkwardly placed at the heels of EIRA, which shifted out slightly whilst under pressure.
TRAVISTEE – Tightened for room on jumping. Improved onto heels in the early stages of the home straight before shifting wider on the track to secure clear running.
FAIRY ME HOME – Raced keenly when in a rearward position in the early and middle stages. Had difficulty securing clear running to the outside of TATCEE and to the inside of HIGH POWER approaching the 300m.
MOMENTUM TO WIN – Raced keenly in the early stages.
EIRA – Momentarily held up approaching the home turn.
Race 6: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB BENCHMARK 68 H’CAP – 1200M
BRINKMANSHIP – Raced ungenerously with its head in the air in the middle stages.
AMSCHEL – Laid in over the final 200m. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester accidentally dropped his whip approaching the winning post.
SUILVEN – Began awkwardly. Laid in rounding the home turn. Jockey M. Murphy was fined $200 under AR. 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 7 times prior to the 100m, which is 2 more than permitted.
SOCIALISING – Raced in restricted room to the inside of AMSCHEL passing the 1000m and, as a result, brushed the running rail. Held up for clear running from the 450m until approaching the 250m.
I LIKE CANDY – Began awkwardly.
MISS ALLE BE – Raced keenly in the early stages.
A LITTLE CRAFTY – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Jockey A. Spinks was fined $200 under AR. 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 10 times prior to the 100m, which is 5 more than permitted. Jockey A. Spinks was also fined $300 under AR. 132(6)(c) for using his whip on the gelding whilst out of contention. Following the gelding’s poor performance, trainer J. Hepworth was advised that the horse’s nomination at metropolitan meetings would be refused until such time as its form improves at provincial or country venues.
Race 7: TAB COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1350M
CLOAK – Restrained when awkwardly placed at the heels of BRONCKS which shifted out to improve passing the 900m. Jockey T. Harrison, the rider of BRONCKS, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that passing the 900m she directed her mount out when insufficiently clear of CLOAK, which was checked and had to shift in to avoid the heels of BRONCKS. Jockey T. Harrison’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence at midnight on Wednesday 1 July 2020 and conclude at midnight on Thursday 9 July 2020. In determining penalty, Stewards were mindful that jockey Harrison had recently returned from injury.
MAGIC FOX – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
LOUIE LA’JOY – Restrained when tightened for room by CLOAK approaching the 800m.
CORDONED – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
CANDESCENCE – Slow to begin. Commenced to overrace passing the 900m, and was restrained from the heels of SOARING HEART.
SOARING HEART – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn.
HOT SOCK – After becoming fractious in the barriers, the gelding turned its head to the side as the start was effected and, as a result, lost ground. Raced in restricted room to the inside of SCOTTISH LAD approaching the 1000m, and was bumped by that runner and became unbalanced.
BRONCKS – Jockey T. Harrison was reprimanded for using her whip 7 times prior to the 100m, which is 2 more than permitted.
RESET’S SON – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
SCOTTISH LAD – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by trainer T. Button regarding the late declaration of J. Bayliss as rider.
PATRICK’S ME MATE – Began awkwardly.
Race 8: BENDIGO BANK BOOVAL BRANCH FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1350M
TAKE TEA – Apprentice J. Huxtable reported that his mount felt awkward in its action during the event. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.
DREAM BIG – Began awkwardly and lost ground, and was then under hard riding in an attempt obtain a forward position. After settling in a midfield position, commenced to overrace and was restrained from the heels of TAKE TEA on a number of occasions passing the 900m. Laid in over the final 250m. After being dislodged from DREAM BIG on pulling up, jockey D. Griffin remounted the mare and returned to the enclosure.
ROSSMAY – Raced 4 wide after passing the 700m.
SHE ZA BOSS – Raced wide without cover throughout.
ROMANI COUNTESS – Began awkwardly.
VIENNA MOON – Held up rounding the home turn, and was then disappointed for a run to the inside of MISS MAKEPEACE approaching the 250m, and had to alter course to the outside to secure clear running.
SKYE AND ME – Slow to begin.
THE LAST SEQUALO – Held up for some distance approaching the home turn.
CHARLOTTE’S GIRL – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer M. Brosnan was advised that the mare will be ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a Steward.
EVENING – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early and middle stages.
