GENERAL
 
Andrew Spinks was unable to ride at today’s meeting due to illness, riding changes below in rider changes summary.
 
Race 5 and Race 6 were both amended to allow QAS to attend to an on course patron. Amended race times - Race 5 - 3:57pm and Race 6 - 4:33pm.
 
 
Race 1: GET SOCIAL@IPSWICHTURFCLUB QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1680 metres:
 
HERTZKA – Slow to begin and over-raced in the early stages
 
LATIN PROPHET – Fractious in the barriers. Approaching the 600m, shifted wider and was awkwardly placed between PLEASANT DREAM and GINJA
 
PLEASANT DREAM – Raced wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward to a position outside the lead approaching the 1100m. Commenced to weaken from the 600m and was eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery and an elevated heart rate. Trainer John Zielke was advised that the gelding shall not start in any race until the Stewards have received a satisfactory veterinary report. The report must include the results of an ECG performed at rest and cardiac auscultation performed within 30 minutes of completing a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000 metres.
 
IMALI – Shortly after the start had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of WILD. Rider Ron Stewart reported that his mount refused to settle in the early stages and as a result was permitted to stride forward from the 1000m to a position outside the lead near the 800m.
 
MISHANI QUEEN – Shortly after the start was steadied when tightened between SIENNA’S CHOICE and IMALI.
 
REDENZO GAL – Laid out in the home straight.
 
SIENNA’S CHOICE – Laid out in the home straight.
 
WILD – Raced three wide without cover.
 
 
Race 2: SKY RACING MAIDEN HANDICAP – 800 metres:
 
MAIL MODEL – Approaching the 100m was momentarily steadied when CRAIGLEA DANIEL (Jackson Murphy) shifted in. Apprentice Jackson Murphy was reprimanded under AR131(a) for permitting his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear.
 
JOLLO – Hung out throughout and proved difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not identify any abnormal findings. Trainer Pat Duff was advised that a warning will be placed on the geldings racing manners.
 
GO GETTER – Shortly after the start shifted out bumping with CRAIGLEA DANIEL.
 
B’DAISY – Held up for clear running from the 500m until entering the home straight.
 
IN HAVANA – Bounded at the start and lost ground.
 
OUTBACK HEIGHTS – Passing the 300m was steadied and carried wider by JOLLO.
 
SHELLONA BEACH – Lost an off hind plate in running.
 
CRAIGLEA DANIEL – Began awkwardly making contact with the outside barrier partition. Bumped shortly after the start. Apprentice Jackson Murphy reported that on jumping, his saddle shifted marginally resulting in him becoming momentarily unbalanced.
 
 
Race 3: JINDI MARKETS THIS SUNDAY BM60 HANDICAP – 800 metres:
 
BETAJET – Bumped and the start. Apprentice Minonette Kennedy was spoken to advisedly in relation to permitting her mount to shift in shortly after the winning post which resulted in interference to the runners to her inside.
 
ACCEPTILE – Performed below market expectation. Rider Michael Cahill stated that he was of the opinion that the gelding would be better suited on a track with more give and further added that he was satisfied with today’s performance.
 
BOSS’S BOY – Jockey James Orman reported that after beginning well, the gelding then failed to muster early speed and settled further back than anticipated, however was of the opinion that the gelding finished off the event to his satisfaction.
 
CORAJILLO – Slow to begin. Performed below market expectation. Raced wide without cover. Apprentice Alex Patis stated that the mare felt amiss in its action and hung out throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of CORAJILLO revealed a minor laceration to its off hind medial coronet band. Trainer Kim Mothershaw was advised that the mare must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.  
 
GOOD GRAB – Shortly after the start was bumped by BETAJET
 
DANCES WITH TIME – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination as the mare had not raced since September 2019. Failed to muster any early speed.
 
 
Race 4: THE BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1200 metres:
 
DOLLY SPARTAN – Laid out rounding the home turn
 
JUXAPOSED – Passing the 1000m commenced to over race and shifted out away from the heels of TRENGGANU. Jockey Les Tilley reported that the gelding did not stretch out in the home straight.
 
REAL FINE WINE – Over-raced whilst being restrained in an attempt to gain cover. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. Laid in in the home straight.
 
PARLOUR – Bumped on the hind quarter at the start.
 
BARTALUMBA – Began awkwardly shifted out bumping with PARLOUR.
 
 
Race 5: THOROUGHBREDS SPORTS BAR FILLIES & MARES BM60 HANDICAP – 1350 metres:
 
DAYTONA DANICA – Slow to begin. Rider Dale Smith reported that the mare did not feel comfortable throughout and in his opinion would be better suited on a track with more give. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare did not identify any abnormal findings. A stable representative for trainer Robert Heathcote advised that DAYTONA DANICA will be examined by the stable’s veterinary surgeon in the coming days and report to Stewards.
 
PETUNIA – Near the 100m improved close to the heels of DEVILLAIN before changing course to the inside of DEVILLAIN to obtain a neat run.
 
DEVILLAIN – Began awkwardly.
 
LOVESPEED GIRL – Laid in rounding the home turn and in the straight.
 
 
Race 6: TAB COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BM60 HANDICAP – 1350 metres:
 
JOHN BOOKE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and early part of the home straight.
 
BETTER THAN MAGIC – Performed below market expectations. Rider Micheal Hellyer stated that in his opinion, the gelding would be better suited over distances shorter than today’s event.
A post-race veterinary examination of BETTER THAN MAGIC did not identify any abnormal findings.
 
KING’S RULE – Raced with its head up whilst being restrained to a position at the rear. Laid in in the home straight. Jockey Michael Cahill could offer no explanation for the gelding’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination of KING’S RULE did not identify any abnormal findings.
 
CELTIC TIGER (NZ) – Held up from the 500m to near the 300m
 
ZOU YORK – Raced ungenerously passing the 1100m
 
 
Race 7: CARPET COURT IPSWICH CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1680 metres:
 
STANDING OVATION (NZ) – Bumped at the start. Approaching the 600m shifted out into a tight run to improve around the tiring TYRIAN. Approaching the 400m when racing in restricted room had to be steadied away from the heels of BLACKMAILER (Apprentice Adin Thompson) which shifted in and away from MIGHTY QUINN.
 
JEWEL OF THE CROWN - A post-race veterinary examination of the mare identified the presence of blood in both nostrils. As this was the second occasion JEWEL OF THE CROWN had bled, Trainer Steven O’Dea was advised that the mare would now be ineligible to start in any race.
 
HIGHLAND SKIPPER – Began awkwardly, shifted out bumping SOARING HEART
 
QUOTANT – Raced keenly in the middle stages
 
QUALIFY – Shortly after the start was tightened between HIGHLAND SKIPPER and TYRIAN which shifted out. Approaching the 400m was checked to avoid the heels of STANDING OVATION. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed lacerations to the right fore leg. Trainer Trevor Whittington was notified that he will be required to provide a veterinary clearance prior to the horse racing or trialling again.
 
SOARING HEART – Bumped at the start
 
TYRIAN – Commenced to weaken from the 600m and was eased down in the home straight.
 
BLACKMAILER – Laid in approaching the 400m away from HIGHLAND SKIPPER. Laid out in the home straight.
