GENERAL
 
As rider D Smith was unable to attend today’s meeting due to personal reasons, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 1: BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT QTIS Three-Years-Old BM62 Handicap 800 metres
 
SIMPLY FLY – Raced keenly and got it head up for a short distance approaching the 400m.
 
SPIRITOMO – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
BLOODBLISTER – Taken wider for a short distance approaching the home turn.
 
BETTER BE GREAT – Hung out for a short distance rounding the home turn.
 
 
Race 2: BRC – UNDER THE LOUVRE @ GRANDVIEW STUD Class 1 Handicap 800 metres
 
METRO TRAMP – As the mare has not raced since February 2019, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was passed suitable to start. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare did not identify any abnormal findings.
 
B'DAISY - Approaching the 200m improved onto the heels of CRAIGLEA COURTNEY and was obliged to shift to the inside of that runner to obtain clear running. Performed below market expectations. Rider T Harrison stated that in her opinion the mare would be better suited to distances further than today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare did not identify any abnormal findings and a post-race swab was taken for analysis.
 
PRETTY RICKY - As the gelding had not raced since August 2019, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was passed suitable to start.
 
MALAKAI – Began awkwardly and contacted the barrier partition. Rider H Phillips reported that her left knee made heavy contact with the barrier partition.
 
CRAIGLEA COURTNEY – Began awkwardly.
 
SHELLONA BEACH – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Passing the 500m raced in restricted room for a short distance.
 
Race 3: SCHWEPPES Maiden Handicap 1710 metres
 
ECHO LUNA (GER) - Performed below market expectations. Rider B Thompson stated that the mare failed to settle throughout and in his opinion did not appreciate the step up in distance. Trainers B&D Guy stated they were disappointed with the mare’s performance and could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare did not identify any abnormal findings.
 
ESSE – Began awkwardly and shifted in and a short distance later was buffeted between runners.
 
BOCHELY – Tightened between runners and lost ground at the start.
 
BLAZING FAIRY – Rider Andrew Spinks was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, which is one more than permitted.
 
CRYPTO FIORELLI – Slow to begin and shortly after was tightened for room between runners. Over raced in the early stages. Trainer D Batters was fined a sum of $100 under AR99 for failure to produce Thoroughbred ID card.
 
MISHANI HEART – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
Race 4: TAB Class 5 Handicap 1200 metres
 
RAGING POLE – Rider M Cahill reported that in his opinion the gelding would be better suited to distances further than that of today’s event.
 
COUP – Over raced in the early stages. Rider M Du Plessis was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, which is one more than permitted.
 
HEZHOME - Performed below market expectations. Rider L Tilley reported the gelding in his travelled off the bit throughout and could offer no other tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not identify any abnormal findings and a post-race swab was taken for analysis.
 
DANCING ANGEL – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
HALLSIDE FANDANGO – Laid out in the home straight.
 
Race 5: THOROUGHBREDS SPORTS BAR Class 2 Plate 1350 metres
 
Start was delayed when EAST ESPLANADE underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the request of the rider and was passed suitable to race.
 
The declaration of correct weight was delayed when trainer B Smith (PALOUR) of the fourth placegetter, requested to view the photo finish image between third and fourth. After viewing the image, trainer B Smith advised that he was satisfied with the placings. Stewards declared correct weight on the Judge’s numbers.
 
CONSULAR – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
EAST ESPLANADE – On several occasions between with 850m and 400m laid in and contacted the running rail.
 
LOVE AND ROCK IT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding identified the presence of blood in both nostrils. LOVE AND ROCK IT under AR79(4) shall not without the permission of the Stewards : (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward.
 
PHOENIX FLYER – Near the 400m raced in restricted room when CONSULAR shifted in marginally. A Thompson (CONSULAR) was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
 
KASITA – Near the 900m for some distance raced with its head up whilst being restrained.
 
Race 6: SIRROMET Colts, Geldings and Entires BM60 Handicap 1100 metres
 
BETAJET – Trainer B Smith advised that the instructions were to ride the gelding more forward than at its most recent starts. Ridden accordingly.
 
GRAND ZOU – Slow to begin and was hampered shortly after the start.
 
THE THICK OF IT – Rider B Thompson reported that the gelding was inclined to lay out in the middle stages of the event.
 
TURBO TEDDY – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the barrier partition. Rider H Phillips reported an injury to her right knee and was assessed by QAS officers as a precaution.
 
Race 7: SKY RACING Fillies and Mares BM60 Handicap 1100 metres
 
SHE'S CROWNED – Began awkwardly. Tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
LOVE YERS ALL – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
TAHLAYLA – Began awkwardly. Tightened for room shortly after the start.
 
WOOLSEY – Began awkwardly.
 
FANTASAY – Fractious in the mounting enclosure. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed suitable to start. Began awkwardly. 
 
ANNIE ETHYL – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up for clear running from the 500m until leaving the 300m.
 
Race 8: CARLTON MID Class 2 Handicap 1710 metres
 
ZOUVILLA – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding identified a laceration and swelling to the near hind leg. Trainer T Gollan was notified that he will be required to provide a veterinary clearance prior to the horse racing or trialling again.
 
CALL ME LEGEND – Hampered shortly after the start. Held up for clear running from the 400m until and point leaving the 300m. Dipped near the 200m.
 
HELSUN – Over raced in the early stages. Rider N Day reported that the gelding was inclined to lay in for the majority. Near the 200m was awkwardly placed at the heels of MADAM MAHAL and was steadied.
 
QUOTANT – After being caught wide from a wide barrier was restrained and settled in a position further back than anticipated. Elected to improve to a three wide position approaching the 700m before being forced wider near the 600m.
 
RHYME TIME – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running approaching the 400m to a point leaving the 300m. Jockey M Cahill (TONY’S DECREE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching winning post he permitted his mount to shift in under riding, when insufficiently clear of RHYME TIME resulting in the mare losing its rightful running, making contact with the inside running rail and clipping heels. Jockey M Cahill’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) days to commence midnight 19 September 2020 and expire midnight 26 September 2020. A post-race veterinary examination of RHYME TIME identified the mare to have lost a near fore plate in running and a small laceration to the near fore heel bulb.
 
TELEREVE – Began awkwardly. Rider S Galloway reported that mare hung out from the 500m.
 
QUALIFY – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
MADAM MAHAL – Began awkwardly.
