A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K Kemp advised he would report any condition which may come to light in the coming days to explain the performance.

KID MAC – Slow to begin.

Race 3: BARN OPEN NEW YEARS EVE BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 2200 metres

URBINO – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on tactics adopted from the 600 metres, Apprentice N Fazackerley explained instructions were that gelding needs to be held up for one final run and that URBINO was not suited by the tempo of the race and the 60kg impost, adding that the gelding prefers tracks less firm than that of today. Stewards noted the explanation of apprentice Fazackerley.

SWEET GOLD – Slow to begin. Passing the 400 metres was placed in restricted room and had to be checked when SPIRIT OF EDYN shifted out marginally and URBINO laid in slightly.
