Race 1: MAY THE HORSE BE WITH YOU QTIS 3YO MDN PLT – 1666M

D'CLONE – Change of tactics – To be ridden more forward; settled behind leader.

DIAMOND BEANS – Began awkwardly.

FOUND THE MARK – Bumped at the start. Near the 150m, was steadied when STOCKED AND LOADED shifted in.

HANGIN' HIGH – Began awkwardly shifted out and bumped FOUND THE MARK. Near the 1000m, when overracing, had to be steadied when improving onto the heels of HAPPISBURGH. When questioned regarding tactics adopted, rider R Wiggins stated that he was instructed to ride the gelding quiet as at its last start, it overraced and settled outside the leader. He further stated that after gaining a position near the rear of the field with cover, his mount settled well and from the 800m he attempted to put HANGIN’ HIGH into the race as it has a tendency to be left flat footed. R Wiggins was satisfied with today’s performance.

HAPPISBURGH – Overraced in the early stages.

STOCKED AND LOADED – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

TRIPTONIC – Overraced in the early stages.

Race 2: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB C3 HCP – 800M

ICED – Slow to begin.

FRISCO'S IMAGE - When questioned regarding the performance, Apprentice J Lloyd stated from the wide barrier and after being slow to begin, he settled further back than anticipated. He added that the colt failed to travel throughout and when placed under pressure in the home straight, FRISCO’S IMAGINE failed to respond to his urgings and as a result, he elected to ease the colt down over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer A Mead advised stewards that FRISCO’S IMAGE will now be spelled and gelded.

WINNINGTON – Raced wide throughout.

Race 3: CARLTON MID MDN PLT – 1350M

Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the judges’ photo placings for second place. After viewing the print, Stewards were satisfied with the judges’ placings and correct weight was declared.

GREYT INTENTIONS – Overraced throughout.

ATLANTIC ROYAL – Overraced in the middle stages and near the 800m, was steadied when improving onto the heels ZOU SOME DAMAGE.

WAIKATO – Raced wide without cover. When questioned as to his riding in the home straight, rider J Murphy stated that WAIKATO had raced wide throughout and after being placed under pressure at the entrance to the home straight, failed to respond to his riding and from the 100m he elected to sit up and not ride his mount out to the finish. Stewards noted the explanation but nonetheless reminded J Murphy of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully in similar circumstances.

BERNIE'S TIGER – Slow to begin. Apprentice N Fazackerley reported that his mount felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages and was inclined to hang from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the off hind. Trainer R Stephenson was advised that BERNIE’S TIGER would require a veterinary certificate prior to the gelding trialling or starting again. Trainer R Stephenson reported that BERNIE’S TIGER would now be spelled.

THE HAND - Reared as the start was affected and lost ground.

BROOK HILL – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted and in particular, whether there was an opportunity to follow LI’L RODGE when that runner made its run near the 1000m, rider C Caserta stated that he was instructed to settle the gelding midfield and in a position off the rail. He added after gaining a position midfield on the back of STUCK WITH YOU, he then elected to maintain that position when LI’L RODGE improved three wide to take up a position in the lead, when it was reasonable for him to allow his mount to improve onto the back of LI’L RODGE. He further added that he did not improve three wide as he was comfortable following STUCK WITH YOU, however, when STUCK WITH YOU began to give ground, he was then taken back through the field and unable to improve. Rider C Caserta stated that in hindsight, he should’ve improved onto the back of LI’L DODGE from the 1000m. Stewards noted his explanation.

STUCK WITH YOU – When questioned regarding the performance, apprentice E Atkinson could offer no tangible excuse for the poor performance.
