GENERAL
 
As Andrew Spinks was injured and Justin Huxtable was not riding at the meeting for acceptable reasons, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Race-day Summary sheet.
 
 
Race 1: TAB QTIS Two-Year-Old Class 2 Handicap 800 metres
 
 
LE RUBIS – Laid out rounding the home turn and again over the final 200 metres. When questioned apprentice J Lloyd stated LE RUBIS raced flat today and trainer C Anderson advised Stewards the colt would now be sent for a spell.
 
 MISS DAURIAN – Slow to begin.
 
 
 
Race 2: RAY WHITE IPSWICH QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden
Handicap 800 metres
 
 
The start of this event was delayed when BAKUHATSU proved difficult to load. 
 
 BAKUHATSU – Difficult to load. Raced three wide throughout.
 
 WHISTLIN' RULER – Slow to begin.
 
 STREAKA – Began awkwardly, lost ground and then slow to muster speed.
 
 ATOUCHOFSYN – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

 
 
Race 3: CARLTON MID QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate
1100 metres
 
Prior to the running of this race a stablehand was kicked in the tie up stalls and required QAS attention.
 
SEA PALLING was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 12:50pm after sustaining abrasions to both hind legs after slipping over in the tie-up stalls. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on SEA PALLING prior to 12:50pm to be refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
 
1st ROTHSHADOW – 20 cents win, 32 cents place
2nd MISSY MILE – 21 cents place
 
 
STRUT – After working keenly during the preliminary underwent a veterinary inspection behind the barriers and was cleared to start.
 
BIZ CLASS – Fractious after being loaded into the barriers. Began awkwardly.
 
MISSY MILE – Laid in on two occasions in the home straight obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten.
 
ROTHSHADOW – Rider M Hellyer’s whip became entangled in the near-side rein momentarily near the 200 metres.
 
The track was upgraded to a Good 4 after the running of Race 3.
 
 
Race 4:  LABOUR DAY RACES 3 MAY QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden
Plate 1100 metres
 
BETTER IN THAN OUT – Bumped at the start.
 
BLUINDI – Began awkwardly and jumped out at the start bumping BETTER IN THAN OUT.
 
CLAIRVUE JET – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
READY TO CHASE – Slow to begin. Approaching the winning post had to be eased crowded for room. Lost near hind plate in running.
 
SQUARE DANCE – On jumping shifted out and bumped PALAISPAN. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
MY GIRL SPIRIT – After passing the 600 metres commenced to lay in and continued to do so for the remainder of the event proving difficult to ride. A post-race veterinary inspection revealed no abnormalities. Trainer N Hilton indicated the mare would now be spelled and was further advised MY GIRL SPIRIT must trial prior to its next race start.
 
PALAISIPAN – Stewards permitted B El Issa to replace non-claiming apprentice J Huxtable. On jumping bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. Laid in under pressure approaching the winning post despite the efforts of its rider.
 
SIENNA'S AWARD – Held up for clear running between the 350 metres and 150 metres.
 
 
 
Race 5: SIRROMET Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately three minutes when both TINIPIT and ENDERLE proved difficult to load.
 
ALATAR – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
ROYALSPECTOR – Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping ENDERLE. Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
LOVE DEMON – Rounding the home turn crowded to the inside of ENDERLE and again crowded for room and had to be steadied passing the 200 metres.
 
CHRYSLA – Laid out under pressure over the final 250 metres forcing PURE PURGATORY wider on the track.
 
ENDERLE – Proved difficult to load delaying the start. Trainer L Wheeler was advised the mare would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start. Bumped on jumping.
 
PURE PURGATORY – Over the final 250 metres forced wider on the track.
 
MORE THAN VENICE – Slow to begin then hampered between runners a short distance later.
 
TINIPIT – Proved difficult to load delaying the start. Trainer J Wilson was advised the filly would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start. Fractious after being loaded into the barriers. Laid out approaching the home turn.
 
 
 
 
Race 6: IPSWICH CUP TICKETS ON SALE Class 3 Handicap 800 metres
 
BLUE SEATTLE – Passing the 150 metres its rider desisted from pressuring his mount as he was of the opinion something may be amiss with the mare. A post-race veterinary examination revealed BLUE SEATTLE lameness in the off fore tendon. Trainer B Gorman was advised BLUE SEATTLE would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
BEST TO HURRY – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
ORSETTO – Laid out approaching the home turn.
 
DANINA – Laid out approaching the home turn.
 
MOCKING – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
 
 
Race 7: BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT Class 3 Handicap 1700 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately two minutes when PRINCESS SPARKLKES proved difficult to load.
 
PRINCESS SPARKLES – Difficult to load and delayed start. Trainer M Wilson was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners.
 
AMUTHON – After travelling in a midfield position early in the event commenced to weaken passing the 600 metres and finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near hind leg. Trainer C McCann was advised AMUTHON would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
PRINCELY SUM – After obtaining a position on the rail at the rear of the field near the 1300 metres, commenced to over-race and proved difficult to restrain. Passing the 1000 metres commenced to lay out for some distance. Rider M Hellyer was reminded of his obligation to ride his mount out fully to the line.

 
 
Race 8: CHANNEL SEVEN Class 1 Plate 1200 metres
 
DURUNDUR LAD – Raced three wide without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight when weakening.

DAD'S LAD – Held up rounding the home turn and approaching the 100 metres was restrained after improving onto the heels of CHECKERS and went to the line without being fully tested. When questioned rider B Nothdurft explained he elected not to shift wider on the track approaching the 500 metres as DAD’S LAD was having its first start over 1200 metres and further that DURUNDUR LAD had raced forward of him three wide without cover throughout the event. He further added he believed his best option was to trail CHECKERS into the race in anticipation that DURUNDUR LAD would weaken and therefore obtain a run to its inside. Stewards noted the explanation of B Nothdurft.
 
MASTER RED – Laid in and became awkwardly placed at the heels of CHECKERS obliging its rider to stop riding and correct his mount.
 
INDUCEMENT – Slow to begin.
 
WHISTLIN' ARROW – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 9: RIVER 949FM BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1350 metres
 
STAY SMART – When racing keenly in a rearward position improved onto the heels of LEGAL COUNSEL and had to be shifted wider on the track for a short distance.
 
MISS CAVALLO – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
NORDIC SHOW – Jumped in at the start.
 
TO LOVE SOMEBODY – Jumped out at the start. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
CELTIC TIGER (NZ) – Slow to begin then hampered between runners a short distance later.
