GENERAL
 
As Josh Adams is currently suspended, Baylee Nothdurft ill, and Ryan Wiggins not riding for personal reasons, Stewards permitted riding changes as per the Stewards race day summary.
 
 
Race 1: MINING & ENERGY WORKERS CUP QTIS Two-Year-Old Colts & Geldings Maiden 1100 metres
 
 
 
I KNOW DAT – Very slow to begin.
 
MISSISSIPPI PRINCE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
RAFFALLI – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
RAW GOLD – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Near the 700m raced in restricted room to the inside of RAFFALLI.
 
 
 
Race 2: COMMON CAUSE QTIS Two-Year-Old Colts & Geldings Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
CANNY IMPACT – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
HALLSIDE WILDTHING – Buffeted on jumping.
 
MAOTAI – Difficult to load.
 
MINTO'S PARADISE – Near the 950m was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced.
 
MOON STALKER – Lost the off fore plate in running.
 
PRESSURE AND TIME – Rider J Byrne reported that the gelding hung out throughout the event and proved difficult to ride and was unable to be fully tested. Lost the off hind plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer D Forster advised Stewards that it would now be her intention to send the gelding for a spell. Stewards advised trainer D Forster that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to being permitted to start in a race.
 
SCORPIO RISING (NZ) – Buffeted on jumping and lost ground.
 
STAR GAMBLE – Slow to begin. After passing the 950m commenced to race keenly and shifted in crowding MINTO’S PARADISE. In the home straight raced greenly and laid in proving difficult to ride.
 
UNCLE BUD – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping and became unbalanced. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Jockey J Murphy was dislodged whilst returning to the enclosure following the event. UNCLE BUD then broke through the inside running rail before being recaptured. A post-race veterinary examination revealed some abrasions to its legs. Jockey J Murphy was examined by QAS personnel and cleared of any injury.
 
 
 
 
Race 3: FOR THE WORKERS QTIS Two-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
 
ALSANTA – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping. When asked to comment on the performance jockey J Orman stated that the filly travelled well in the early stages, however when placed under pressure in the home straight proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
EASY ROCKER – Slow to begin.
 
EXONDAROSES – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ME ME LAGARDE – Had to be resaddled after arriving behind the barriers. Began moderately.
 
QUIX – Raced three without cover throughout.
 
CLAIRVUE LADY – Raced keenly in a midfield trailing position between the 900m and 700m.
 
COME CLEAN – Held up for a short distance near the 300m.
 
TAKEN BY THEFT – After arriving on course underwent a veterinary examination at the request of the trainer, was found to be lame in the off hind leg and subsequently declared a late scratching by order of Stewards on veterinary advice at 10.50am. Trainer G Taylor was advised a veterinary clearance for TAKEN BY THEFT would be required prior to the filly being permitted to start in a trial or race.
 
 
 
 
Race 4: MAKE BLACK LUNG HISTORY QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1350 metres
 
 
COURT ROCKING – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
GIBBED – Reared as the start was effected, shifted out contacting the heels of SQUARE DANCE and blundered.
 
SQUARE DANCE – Bumped on jumping. Near the 1100m raced keenly when placed in restricted room and had to be steadied off the heels of PLAYING HOOKIE. Forced wider for a short distance near the 800m.
 
PLAYING HOOKIE – Near the 900m raced keenly when the pace steadied and had to shift out to avoid the heels of SUPAIRUS, and was allowed by its rider to stride forward to obtain the position outside the leader near the 700m.
 
SPIRIT'S CHARM – Began awkwardly. Near the 900m commenced to race keenly when the pace steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of VELLERIO PRINCE. Held up from the 600m to the 350m before shifting wider on the course to secure clear running.
 
 
 
 
Race 5: STAND UP. SPEAK OUT. COME HOME Maiden Handicap 1350 metres
 
 
SEQUOIDEAE (NZ) – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
YUFCALLEDCHARLIE – Began awkwardly.
 
KID MAC – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event and laid out rounding the home turn.
 
SUBAYAI – Hung out approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
 
 
Race 6: 'DIGGER' MURPHY MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 800 metres
 
 
SYD'S FOOTPRINTS – Slow to begin and the rider dropped his whip near the 200m.
 
LILLI LIGHTS OUT – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Rider M Savva was advised to make a greater effort to keep her mounts straight when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Raced three wide without cover.
 
VERNAZZA – Raced four wide without cover.
 
BASTILLE DAY – Raced three wide with cover.
 
PROUDLY GREY – Raced four wide with cover.
 
SUKOSHI – Crowded for room shortly after the start, had to be checked and lost ground.
 
INTIMATE TYCOON – Crowded for room shortly after the start, had to be checked and lost ground.
 
GLOBAL VENTURE – Began awkwardly, shifted out, bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. Raced three wide with cover.
 
 
 
 
Race 7: PERMANENT JOBS BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1680 metres
 
 
SUGAR BUZZ – Was restrained from the wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail towards the rear of the field.
 
HELLAVA BABE – Slow to begin.
 
LADY SOLERNO – Rider J Huxtable was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the finishing line.
 
 
WOLF MOON – When asked to comment on the performance, rider J Orman reported that after settling in a favourable position, failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed some mild soreness in both forelegs.
Trainer B Healey advised that he would have his veterinary surgeon examine the horse and report back to Stewards if anything came to light which may have had a bearing on today’s performance. He further added that he may give consideration to sending the gelding for a spell.
 
SNIPPETSPEED – Held up for the entire home straight and went to the line without being tested.
 
CITY SMART – Was restrained from the wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail towards the rear of the field.
 
STORM HARBOUR – Held up from the 400m until passing the 200m.
 
 
 
 
 
Race 8: MOUNT MULLIGAN CENTENARY Class 2 Handicap 1350 metres
 
 
 
BOFORS – Held up rounding the home turn and unable to secure clear running until passing the 200m.
 
ELOTROLADO – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
NIAB – Raced keenly in the early stages and then raced three wide with cover.
 
PALAISIPAN – Held up for clear running from the 450m until passing the 300m.
 
TOOTS IS TOPS – After being fractious in the barriers, was removed and underwent a veterinary examination and acting on veterinary advice that the mare was lame in the off hind leg was declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 3.48pm. All bets placed on TOOT IS TOPS to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply for successful wages:
 
1st PALAISIPAN –             1 cent in win for first
                                          1 cent in place for first
 
2ND BOFORS  –                4 cents in place for second
 
3RD MY BLUEWINGS –    4 cents in place for third
 
Trainer S Lee was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for TOOTS IS TOPS prior to being permitted to trial or race again.
 
 
THE GOOD THE BAD (NZ) – Slow to begin
 
MY BOY MISCHKE – Trainer advised that from the wide barrier it would be their intention to ride the gelding in a forward position. Ridden accordingly.
 
AMUTHON – Slow to begin.
 
THE WARDSMEN – Slow to begin.
 
 
 
Race 9: THE MEATWORKERS UNION BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres
 
 
 
MOSCINI – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
BLUEANT – Buffeted and became unbalanced shortly after the start. When asked to comment on the performance apprentice M Wishart explained that in her opinion the gelding doesn’t run out a strong 1200m and with the rise in weight for today’s event, that combination may have had a bearing on its finishing effort.
 
VIKING RAID – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Near the 1100m when racing keenly became  awkwardly placed at the heels of DISARMED  which laid out, then clipped heels and blundered.
 
ALL STARS – Bumped on jumping. Approaching the 800m was crowded for room and had to be eased when tightened by BLUEANT which shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice M Wishart rider of BLUEANT was reprimanded under AR131(a).
 
DISARMED – Laid out despite the efforts of its rider near the 1100m.
 
ESKDALE GIRL – Had to be steadied shortly after the start. Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
EVELEIGH – Trainer advised that it would be their intention to ride the mare back in the field if circumstances permit. Settled near the rear of the field.
 
KAIBERRY (NZ) – Fractious in barriers and reared on a number of occasions prior to the start being effected. Slow to begin.
