GENERAL Following light rain after scratching deadline the track was downgraded to a Soft 6 at 8:30am As a result of the Moree and Bendigo race meetings being abandoned the following race times were amended: Race 1: 12:35pmRace 2: 1:10pmRace 3: 1:45pmRace 4: 2:25pmRace 5: 3:05pmRace 6: 3:40pmRace 7: 4:10pmRace 8: 4:42pm Race 1: RIVER 949 FM Maiden Plate 1350 metres ESPANYOL – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. Raced keenly throughout. In the home straight inclined to lay in. PRINCE HUSSON – Over the final 250 metres had some difficulty securing clear running. BONJOUR MATE – Raced three wide with cover throughout. THE CROW MAN – Bumped heavily on jumping. YUFCALLEDCHARLIE – Began awkwardly and shifted in at the start. Passing the 1000 metres, when racing keenly, had to be restrained from the heels of STORMYONE. Continued to over-race for some distance thereafter. NINETYNINE STEPS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and cleared to start after sustaining a minor laceration above the right eye when being transported to the track. Slow to begin. STORMYONE – Approaching the 1000 metres had to be eased when LOUVRE LIL laid in. LOUVRE LIL – Laid in near the 1000 metres. Rider C Eaton reported the filly raced greenly throughout. Race 2: RAY WHITE IPSWICH Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1Handicap 1100 metres GO WANDJI – After being loaded into the barriers, kicked out, was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:12pm after sustaining lacerations to the off-hind hock. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on GO WANDJI refunded in full and the following deductions to apply: 1st SUPER GORGEOUS – 20c win, 5c place2nd KINGSCOTE – 22c win3rd GOGOL – 26c place KINGSCOTE – Raced three wide without cover throughout. When asked to comment on tactics adopted in the early stages rider R Fradd stated he anticipated GOGOL, which was racing to the inside, progressing forward and leading the event. However, after SUPER GORGEOUS improved to the inside of GOGOL near the 900 metres, he was unable to restrain KINGSCOTE and was obliged to race three wide for the remainder of the event. GOGOL – Began awkwardly and shifted out. SUPER GORGEOUS – Passing the 900 metres, when racing in restricted room, bumped with ARRIVERDERCI ROMA and contacted the running rail. ARRIVERDERCI ROMA – Bumped with SUPER GORGEOUS near the 900 metres. MONTE SANTO – Hampered on jumping. Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a Soft 5. Race 3: CHANNEL SEVEN 0 - 62 Handicap 1350 metres BAMBALAM – Began awkwardly. REDSTONE – Near the 600 metres steadied from the heels of CELTIC TIGER. BILL THE CONQUEROR – When the pace steadied in the middle stages was inclined to over-race. Held up rounding the home turn and near the 250 metres, when attempting a run to the inside of BAMBALAM, had to be steadied when that runner shifted in before being corrected by its rider. SISTER KATHLEEN – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer C Weston advised the mare had been working well and was confident of a forward showing today. He added SISTER KATHLEEN was down in class today, appreciates the soft track conditions and races well at this track and distance. Stewards noted the explanation. BLACKBOOTS – Rider R Maloney reported he was satisfied with the mare’s performance today noting BLACKBOOTS is best served when held up for one final run and was not suited by the slow tempo in the middle stages. He added the mare would take benefit from today’s first up run. ZANAZOU – Rider R Palmer reported her left foot contacted the barrier partition on jumping placing her in some discomfort during the event. HOLD ALL TICKETS – Raced three wide without cover throughout. CELTIC TIGER – When the pace eased in the middle stages over-raced and as a consequence near the 700 metres had to be checked from the heels of BILL THE CONQUEROR. Race 4: TAB Venue Mode 0 - 62 Handicap 1350 metres Trainers R Heathcote and S Dwyer Jnr were reprimanded under AR106 for presenting their respective runners to the saddling enclosure with the incorrect saddle cloths. NEXT DIMENSION – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up rounding the home turn. BIGGIE – Blundered on jumping. WALKINSHAW – Held up rounding the home turn. DUBLE GAZE – Sow to begin. MISS MOSCATO – Rider T Marshall reported after being obliged to work forward to race outside the leader from the wide draw, the filly failed to respond when place under pressure from the 300 metres and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. DAYTONA DANICA – Held up rounding the home turn.Race 5: SIRROMET BM68 Handicap 1710 metres BARITONE (IRE) – Slow to begin. Held up for a short distance near the 500 metres and then obliged to race in restricted room when improving passing the 400 metres. TAVIS TOWN (NZ) – In some publications was incorrectly listed as carrying Blinkers. A public announcement was made to this effect. WESTHAM – Rider R Maloney stated the gelding travelled well throughout the event however when placed under pressure rounding the home turn failed to respond to his riding. BOMBAY NIGHTS – Forced wider passing the 1000 metres when FELZONE shifted out. FELZONE – When racing keenly passing the 1000 metres had to be restrained from the heels of BADGE OF GAMENESS and shifted out. THUMBS UP – Slow to begin. MINOR LUCK – After racing in a rearward trailing position was shifted wider on the track over the final 900 metres of the event to improve. BADGE OF GAMENESS – Approaching the 1000 metres commenced to over-race and had to be restrained from the heels of TAVIS TOWN. Race 6: SCHWEPPES Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap 1100 metres The start was delayed when BEFANA proved difficult to load. Trainer L Hatch was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners. BEFANA – Slow to begin. EXPENSIVE TO KEEP – Slow to begin. FLEUR DE JOUR – Stewards permitted apprentice S Tomlinson to claim only 1.5 kg of his 2kg allowance on the mare. S Tomlinson was subsequently fined $200 under AR 143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance. Raced three wide for the majority of the event. Hung out passing the 700 metres and commenced to weaken. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Trainer K Martin was advised FLEUR DE JOUR would require a veterinary certificate prior to trialling or racing again. REPRESENTING – Declared a late scratching at 11:45am on veterinary advice after being found to have an elevated temperature. Race 7: CARLTON MID QTIS Three-Years-Old BM65 Handicap 1100 metres HEY BIG SPLENDA – Unable to improve between the 600 metres and the 400 metres before having to shift wider on the course to improve.SWEET RHAPSODY – Raced three wide with cover for the majority. Inconvenienced and forced wider on the track approaching the 150 metres when RUBYEXPRESS shifted out. BEST TO HURRY – Bumped on jumping. RICH LISTER – Held up rounding the home turn. LEO'S DEN – On arrival at the barriers was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. DANSANT – Raced three wide without cover throughout. RUBYEXPRESS – Began awkwardly and shortly after bumped heavily with BEST TO HURRY. Over-raced near the 900 metres and shifted wider on the track. Passing the 200 metres when placed under pressure shifted out before being corrected by its rider and then shifted in abruptly and proved difficult to ride. Trainer G Cornish was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of RUBYEXPRESS. Race 8: IEEC.COM.AU Class 4 Handicap 1350 metres SILESIAN – Inconvenienced passing the 200 metres when awkwardly placed at the heels of the weakening WOLFF BOSS. ROYAL SHEEN – From the wide barrier was restrained shortly after the start to obtain a position closer to the rail. ACCUMULATED – Over-raced in the early and middle stages despite the efforts of its rider and led by a considerable margin. PRINCELY SUM – As Andrew Spinks was to be overweight Stewards permitted M Du Plessis to ride the gelding. Andrew Spinks was fined $100 under AR190(4). Held up rounding the home turn.
