GENERAL
 
As A Fancourt was indisposed Stewards permitted riding changes as per the Race day summary sheet.
 
Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB Maiden Plate 2150 metres
 
SCARLET PIMPERNEL – R Maloney, rider of SCARLET PIMPERNEL, was fined $600 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.
 
ARCTIC DASHER – Bumped on jumping. Shifted out to improve and raced three wide from the 1000m.
 
BURLESY (NZ) – When over-racing was steadied from heels passing the 1500m. R Fradd, rider of BURLESY, was suspended for a period of 7 days under AR132(7)(a)(ii) to commence midnight 2nd January up to and including midnight 9th January 2022 for use of the whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m, 4 more than permitted.
 
SAXON ROSE – Jumped out at the start and bumped ARCTIC DASHER.
 
 
Race 2: DONATE LIFE QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres
 
Declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to confirm the semaphored placings for second and third in this event.
 
BRENTWOOD – Rider R Maloney reported the gelding failed to quicken when placed under pressure in the home straight, adding that in his opinion BRENTWOOD may benefit with the addition of blinkers.
 
 
Race 3: SIRROMET Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 Handicap 1100 metres
 
TITANIUM – Slow to muster speed in the early stages.
 
MAGNITUDO – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
BULL DIMPLE RUM – Slow to begin.
 
REGAL CONQUEROR – Jumped out at the start.
 
 
Race 4: SCHWEPPES QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
MISHANI SPARTAN – Slow to begin. Near 1000m shifted out and had to steadied when awkwardly placed at heels. Approaching the 850m steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of HOOT’N’HOLLER which laid in despite the efforts of its rider.
 
HOOT 'N' HOLLER – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the off hind leg, consistent with having been galloped on during the race.
 
MISHANI EMBRACE – Began awkwardly. Near the 800m when racing keenly was steadied after improving to the inside of PAKETTA.
 
LOLA STAR – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly for the majority of the event.
 
DON'T TELL JANE – Trainer B Hill was fined $200 under LR67 for the late declaration of rider on that filly.
 
 
Race 5: GREAT NORTHERN Class 3 Handicap 1350 metres
 
PAY WITH CASH – Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
ELVEENA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the finishing line improved onto heels and had to be checked.
 
CHERRY SODA – When asked to comment on the performance rider T Marshall stated the horse travelled comfortably in the run however when placed under pressure from the 500m failed to quicken as expected and was disappointing. Trainer B Baldwin could offer no explanation other than CHERRY SODA may not have run out a strong 1350m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
ROUND OF APPLAUSE – Over-raced when leading.
 
 
Race 6: SEVEN Class 3 Plate 1666 metres
 
SAYS WHO – Slow to begin. Laid out rounding the home turn. Rider J Bayliss reported the horse raced flat and failed to quicken as expected from the 600m.
 
LUNAR LUSTRE – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 7: RIVER 94.9FM Class 2 Handicap 800 metres
 
COCO DIABLO (NZ) – As had not started for an extended period, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
KEEPMOVING FORWARD – Near the 500m placed in restricted room to the inside of RUN THE CUTTER when that horse was taken in by COCO DIABLO when not fully clear. G Cartwright, rider of COCO DIABLO, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
ELECTRIC DRAGON – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels near the 500m.
 
CALINDA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
LIVELY LASS – For some distance leaving the 200m forced to shift inwards when awkwardly placed at the heels of another runner.
 
Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to a Soft 5.
 
Race 8: HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM ITC Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap 1100 metres
 
SONIC ARROW – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
PIXIE MAGIC – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
WHITSUNDAY STAR – Slow to begin.
