GENERAL
 
As M Hellyer was not riding at for personal reasons, Stewards permitted riding changes as per the race day summary sheet.
 
Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden
Plate 800 metres
 
CABRINELLA – Slow to begin. Shifted in slightly near the 200m. Raced wide throughout. The nose roll on the horse shifted during the running of the event which may have contributed to the horse racing ungenerously in the home straight.
 
HELLO ANGEL – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight and near the 200m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at heels.
 
MONTANA LADY – Shifted out under pressure near the 250m.
 
PURPLE SONG – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn until a point near the 100m.
 
Race 2: TAB VENUE MODE QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1666 metres
 
JETFOIL – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn. Buffeted between runners approaching the 100m and became unbalanced.
 
JIMMY THE TULIP – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Raced three wide in the early stages.
 
SAINT BARTHOLOMEW – Raced three wide in the early stages.
 
SHANI AWARD – Z Lloyd, rider of SHANI AWARD, was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. When asked to comment on the performance Z Lloyd advised the horse was inclined to over-race when leading adding that it was only having its third start in a race and SHANI AWARD may have not been suited to the step up to the 1666m of today’s event.
 
ASTUTE – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages. Buffeted between runners approaching the 100m and became unbalanced.
 
SECRET KING – Fractious leaving the enclosure, underwent a veterinary examination on arrival behind the barriers and cleared to start. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
LAYLAH'S WISH – Hung out when placed under pressure near the 250m.
 
WHITE GLOVE TEST – When asked to comment rider J Byrne stated the horse travelled comfortably in the run, however when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing.
 
ZEEBLING – Bumped near the 100m.
 
STAR CHANCE – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover and again near the 1200m. Improved onto heels near the 800m and was steadied.
 
LYNDALL - Raced three wide for the majority of the event.
 
 
Race 3: SIRROMET Class 4 Handicap 1666 metres
 
RIVETTO (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover.
 
TOP GLAMOUR – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
HE'S THE DEEL – Slow to begin.
 
BUDDY'S TALE – After contacting the barrier partition on arrival behind the barriers underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer D Corbett advised intentions were not to race in a leading position, however after beginning well and being caught wide in the early stages plus with the addition of blinkers first time today, the horse was able to race in a more forward position. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
 
 
Race 4: BRUNCH @ THE BARN THIS SUNDAY Maiden Handicap 1666 metres
 
CONSTRUCTIONMASTER – When asked to comment on tactics adopted rider M Kennedy advised instructions were to dig the horse up out of the gates as at its most previous starts the horse had been slow to begin and, if possible, to attempt to settle in a midfield position. App Kennedy added with the addition of winkers today and with the step up to 1600m CONSTRUCTIONMASTER over-raced in the early and middle stages, and near the 1000m was obliged to further restrain the horse however it continued to race fiercely, and she was unable to restrain the horse which ultimately weakened badly in the home straight. Trainer D Duryea confirmed the instructions adding it was now his intention to engage a senior rider going forward. Stewards advised Mr Duryea CONSTRUCTIONMASTER must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
 
CYCLONE BLACKIE – Raced ungenerously near 1000m.
 
VAIN LUKE – Slow to muster speed in the early stages.
 
UNSUSPECTED – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
BLAZING FAIRY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
CASHOFFA – Slow to begin.
 
LOUVRE LIL – Slow to begin.
 
STAR DIVA – Slow to begin.
 
RED VEGAS - Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
 
 
Race 5: GREAT NORTHERN Maiden Plate 1200 metres
 
 
ZOUESAY – S Lacy, rider of ZOUESAY, was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
BAY STREET – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
HAITCH (NZ) – Slow to begin. Trailed the field throughout and proved uncompetitive. Rider B Thompson reported the horse felt awkward in its action behind.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near hind leg. Trainer R Tyrell was advised HAITCH would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
DISCRETELY ALIESHA – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FRENCH MINER – Slow to begin. Trailed the field throughout and proved uncompetitive. Trainer V Coombes was advised FRENCH MINER must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mild heat stress.
 
ROSE GISELLE – Rider K Zechner reported the horse raced greenly throughout and may benefit from a step up in distance.
 
 
Race 6: EVENTS @ WWW.IEEC.COM.AU Class 3 Handicap 1350 metres
 
HEAD UP HIGH – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
EARLY CROW – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Rider B Thompson reported the horse felt awkward in its action on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
BEST TO HURRY – Bumped at the start with RIP CITY.
 
RIP CITY – Bumped at the start with BEST TO HURRY. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 7: SCHWEPPES Fillies & Mares RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1350 metres
 
BEACH CLUB – Raced wide throughout the event. Steadied rounding the home turn when placed in restricted room.
 
AMORE PRIMUS – From the wide barrier restrained shortly after the start to a midfield position closer on the rails.
 
REAL EMPRESS – Change of tactics – midfield or better if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin settled in a midfield position three wide. Taken wider on the track near the when ZANAZOU shifted out near the 300m. C Robertson, rider of ZANAZOU, was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Bumped heavily near the 50m and had to be checked when ZANAZOU shifted out under pressure. The licence of C Robertson, rider of ZANAZOU, was suspended from riding in races pursuant to AR131(a) for a period of 10 days to commence midnight 19th February up to and including midnight 1st March 2022.
 
ESTER'S ROSE – Slow to begin.
 
STRYKING PRINCESS – Taken wider on the track near the 300m.
 
ZANAZOU – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
ALLARES – Taken wider on the track and had to be steadied from heels near the 300m. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
BUFFALO GIRL – Laid in rounding the home turn resulting in BEACH CLUB being placed in restricted and having to be steadied. Steadied from heels near the 300m. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
Race 8: RIVER 94.9FM Colts, Geldings & Entires RATINGS BAND 0 -58 Handicap 1350 metres
 
FORT MYER – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Laid in when weakening in the home straight.
 
SIR EX BE – Trainer T Button was fined $200 pursuant to LR67 for a late rider declaration. Steadied near the 700m.
 
ABOVE THE SKY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
DUNKIRK – From the wide barrier restrained shortly after the start to a midfield position closer on the rails. Near the 700m steadied from the heels of TRY TO BE GOOD which shifted out. A Thompson, rider of TRY TO BE GOOD, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
ZEELUCK – When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer B Robinson stated he was not entirely surprised by the forward showing as the horse was racing down in class today and had shown pleasing improvement in its trackwork since its most recent start, adding that ZEELUCK also benefited with the engagement of a senior rider. Stewards noted the explanation.
