Race 2: TAB VENUE MODE Maiden Plate 2200 metres

FROM THE GONG- A post-race Veterinary examination of the mare which tailed off revealed a poor post-race recovery. In light of today’s performance trainer D Knight was advised that the mare would not be permitted to start at provincial meetings until such time as it establishes improved form at country venues.

CHIEFS AND MAHOMES- Raced wide until a point near the 1400m.

BABY RUN- Jockey M DuPlessis reported the mare failed to handle the heavy 10 track conditions.

RIVERSIDE THEATRE- Raced wide until a point near the 1400m.

ROYAL GEORGE-App M Castle was fined $400 for using her whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. Cast its off fore plate in running.

JIMMY THE TULIP- As apprentice D McGillivray was only able to claim 1kg of his allowance, which was 1/2kg over his nominated riding weight, he was subsequently fined $300.

OCEANARIUM- Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground. Trainer B Robinson advised that following today’s performance, the stable would now review the mare’s future racing career.

RED VEGAS- App. J Cornish could offer no tangible explanation for poor performance of the mare. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 3: SIRROMET Class 2 Handicap 1650 metres

GLASHABEE- Raced keenly in the early stages. App J Molloy was fined $300 for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. When questioned in relation to the below market expectation performance, App J Molloy reported that whilst the gelding raced a little keenly in the early stages and had a tendency to lay out, it failed to quicken as he has expected when placed under pressure in the home straight and proved disappointing. App Molloy also added that when returning to scale the gelding felt somewhat short in its action. A post-race Veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer K Deacon also expressed disappointment with the performance and advised that he would report back to Stewards in the days subsequent to today’s meeting should any abnormality become present which may have affected its performance in today’s event.

BEAT IT- Trainer B Robinson was fined $200 for the late notification of J Taylor as the rider of the gelding.

Race 4: SCHWEPPES Class 4 Handicap 1150 metres

FIGHTING COMMANDO- Began awkwardly. Made contact with the running shortly after passing the winning post and became unbalanced.

MAGIC FOX- Began only fairly and was bumped shortly after the start by FIGHTING COMMANDO which was carried out by STATIC LIFT. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

PURE PURGATORY- Raced ungenerously when being restrained to a position with cover in the early stages.

Race 5: GREAT NORTHERN Maiden Handicap 1150 metres

CRITICAL THINKER- App. J Molloy reported that in his opinion, the gelding, at this stage of its preparation, would benefit from races over a greater distance than that of today’s event.

FIDE ET AMORE- Jumped in the air at the start.

OFF ROAD- Stood flat footed at the start and lost ground. Trainer S Morrisey was advised a warning would be issued against the gelding. Raced wide from the 700m. Near the 250m after shifting in abruptly, was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced.

NEVER MORE POYSED- Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority.

HIGH WAY WARRIOR- In the early stages of the home straight had a tendency to lay out under pressure. Shifted in under hard riding near the 100m, IZARA’S DREAM becoming awkwardly placed at heels. Jockey M Duplessis the rider of HIGH WAY WARRIOR was advised to exercise more car when shifting ground.

IZARA'S DREAM- Raced wide without cover throughout. Hung out for the majority. Near the 250m, whilst laying out, was tightened for room and checked when racing between HIGH WAY WARRIOR which shifted out marginally and OFF ROAD which shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Raced in restricted room for a considerable distance after passing the 100m when awkwardly placed at heels.

VAIN LUKE- Slow to begin.

SIZZLING DIAMOND- Bumped on the hindquarters near the 50m.

Race 6: THE BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1150 metres

MADAME MO- App. J Molloy reported that in his opinion, the mare, which was racing first up from a spell today, would derive a fitness benefit from today’s run and additionally would be better suited in races over a greater distance than that of today’s event as its preparation continues.

STRYKING PRINCESS- Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Carried wider by another runner approaching the home turn. Stewards questioned apprentice E MacPherson and Trainer G Schwenke in relation to the tactics adopted on the mare. Of concern to Stewards was App. MacPherson racing in a 3 wide position when there appeared an opportunity to secure cover in the early stages and further the reasoning for racing wide on the track in the home straight. Apprentice MacPherson advised that she was instructed by Mr Schwenke to obtain a forward position as the mare races best when ridden in this fashion, and further to not overly restrain the mare. App. MacPherson added that when runners drawn to her inside mustered similar speed to her this resulted in her being caught 3 wide for the duration of the event. With respect to racing wider on the track in the home straight App. Macpherson advised that Mr Schwenke informed her that given the heavy 10 track conditions, the ground may have been better wider on the track and therefore she should endeavour to position the mare towards in the outside in the home straight if possible. Mr Schwenke confirmed the instructions issued and advised that given the racing characteristics of the mare he was satisfied with App. Macpherson’s decision to race in a 3 wide position rather than to overly restrain the mare in the early stages to a position with cover. Furthermore, Mr Schwenke confirmed his instructions to App. MacPherson to secure clear running wider on the track in the home straight if possible. In the circumstances, given the specific instructions issued to App. MacPherson Stewards noted the explanation.

LEMON DUCHESS- Laid out for the majority.

LADY TAVISTA- Carried wider by another runner approaching the home turn.

Race 7: EVENTS @ WWW.IEEC.COM.AU Colts, Geldings and Entires BENCHMARK 58 Hand 1150 metres

IMPRINTED- Approaching the winning post improved onto heels and was steadied.

HALFAHOPE- Began only fairly and was then placed in restricted room shortly after the start. Jockey T Harrison reported that whilst the gelding travelled comfortably during the event, it failed to run on as she had expected in the home straight. Jockey Harrison added that in her opinion the reduction in distance of this event did not suit the gelding. Trainer B Hull indicated that the gelding in light of today’s performance would now be spelled.

MENINDEE- Shifted out near the 700m and as a result raced wide for the remainder.

HERECUM DA DRUMS- Tightened for room shortly after the start. Shifted out near the 700m and as a result raced wide for the remainder.

Race 8: RAY WHITE IPSWICH Class 1 Handicap 1150 metres

BRUJA- Began awkwardly. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

JENO- Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages and approaching the 700 improved onto heels before shifting out. Bumped and forced wider near the 600m.

AFRICAN STORM- Began awkwardly. Bumped and forced wider near the 700m and again near the 600m and as a result was steadied.

RAGLAN- Fractious in the barriers.
