GEOSTORM – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. Race 2: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Plate 1200 metres Retrospective to this event the track was downgraded to a soft 6. Race 3: THE BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT QTIS Three-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Maid 1200 metres Prior to the declaration of Correct weight, Stewards considered a protest lodged by App W Peel, the rider of the second placegetter THAT'S A MIRACLE against the first placegetter SERGEANT HULKA alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from both riders and their respective Trainers and viewing the films, Stewards were of the opinion that near the 200m THAT'S A MIRACLE had established clear running to the outside of SERGEANT HULKA and thereafter SERGEANT HULKA shifted out dictating the line of THAT'S A MIRACLE which was also shifted out until near the 100m. After considering the evidence stewards could not be satisfied that the interference suffered to THAT’S A MIRICALE was sufficient to warrant a reversal of the neck margin and dismissed the objected, declaring correct weight on the semaphored numbers. COPPERCHINO – Race wide throughout. OUR POLARIS – Slow to begin. SERGEANT HULKA – Began awkwardly. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. SILVER GALAXY – Slow to begin. Trainer D Lane was advised that the geldings’ nomination would be refused from Metropolitan venues until such time as its form improves. Race 5: IPSWICH CUP TICKETS ON SALE BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1700 metres RAGING POLE – Blundered when rounding the home turn. App C Graham was questioned in regard to her tactics, particularly between the 700m and the 400m when it appeared, she did not pressure her mount in an attempt to take advantage of opportunities to improve. App Graham explained that she accepted there was an opportunity to improve wider on the track to follow PREDICTABLE MISS (NZ) which had commenced to improve, however given that her mount was having it first start over 1700m she was reluctant to race wide at that point of the event. She also stated that as her mount was questionable over the distance she was reluctant to pressure her mount too early in the event. She added that when leaving the 600m she was following DRUMADOIR which was racing greenly at that point of the event and was obliged to decide whether she could improve inside or outside that runner. App Graham accepted that at this point in the race she could have applied more vigour, in hindsight. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered and agreed that App Graham had erred for a short distance in failing to pressure her mount near the 600m however, were not satisfied that this rendered her culpable under the rules and therefore took no further action. RHYME TIME – Began awkwardly bumping with FAST TALKING. Raced wide in the early stages. BETTER ETHICS – Over raced in the middle stages. DRUMADOIR – Raced greenly during the middle stages. PREDICTABLE MISS (NZ) – Over raced and raced green in the early and middle stages. BOMBASAY – Laid in throughout practically in the home straight when place under pressure, placing it rider at a disadvantage. DIVINE ELEVEN – Post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have cardiac arrythmia. Trainer M Dunn’s advised the gelding would require an ECG and official trial prior to racing. COLD HARD FACT – Bumped shortly after the start and became momentarily unbalanced. Inconvenienced near the 200m when MISS MCKINLEY shifted out to secure clear running. MISS MCKINLEY – Began awkwardly, bumping with SMART IMAGE. Race 7: SIRROMET Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres The start was delayed approximately three minutes due to a dog being loose on the in field when the horses arrived at the barriers. Prior to the declaration of correct weight the stewards considered an objection by the rider the third placegetter READY FOR ANYTHING (B Thompson) against second placegetter CAMPAI (J Lloyd), alleging interference in the home straight. After viewing the footage and considering statements from the riders stewards were satisfied that READY FOR ANYTHING was tightened for room and had to be checked near the 200m as a result of CAMPAI shifting out and tightening its running. Steward were also satisfied that this interference was sufficient to reverse the half length margin between the two runners at the conclusion of the event and therefore upheld the objection declaring correct weight on the revised semaphored numbers: 1st DEVASTATING2nd READY FOR ANYTHING3rd CAMPAI4th NIC ME SOME FIRST PEOPLES – Declared a late scratching at 2:06pm at the request of trainer S Kavanagh due to the downgrade of the track. READY FOR ANYTHING – Checked near the 200m. App J Lloyd pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 200m he allowed his mount to shift out under pressure and failed to stop riding and straighten before crossing the line of READY FOR ANYTHING causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. App J Lloyds license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days to commence midnight May 4 2022 and to conclude midnight May 17, 2022. KARAOKE QUEEN – On return to scale jockey B Thornton reported to Stewards that when pre-race earmuffs were removed from his mount in the barrier stalls the blinkers also became unclipped and shifted during the event. Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards interviewed jockey B Thornton and starter C Wallace in relation to this matter and also viewed the footage of the event which indicated that KARAOKE QUEEN raced greenly throughout the event and also hung out when rounding turns and as a result of this jockey B Thornton eased the filly out of the event from the 300m mark. Acting under AR204(1)(d) stewards were satisfied that the horses’ performance was encumbered by an outside influence, that being the blinkers restricting the horses eyesight as a result of the ear muffs being removed at the start and subsequently declared KARAOKE QUEEN a nonrunner, upon declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on KARAOKE QUEEN be refunded and the following deductions apply on all successful bets. 1st 21c the win, 13c the place2nd 18c the place3rd 21c the place KERRISDALE – Declared a late scratching at 3:02pm at the request of trainer H Page due to the downgrade of the track. CAMPAI – Shifted out under pressure near the 200m. SHIPIERRO – Significantly slow to begin. Race 8: TAB BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1100 metres The start of this event was delayed due to the significant delay to declaration of correct weight in the previous event. DARE TO SHARE – Tightened for room and steadied shortly after the start. KOSCIUSKO – App M Kennedy and Trainer M Faulkner were questioned regarding the tactics adopted in leading todays event, which is in contrast to the horses recent racing pattern. App Kennedy indicated that she had been given no specific instructions other than, not to overly restrain the gelding and cause it to over-race, noting that the gelding had been caught wide during its most recent starts, however had raced in a forward position during its last preparation. Trainer M Faulkner confirmed these instructions and confirmed that they did not differ from both previous starts he had given KOSCIUSKO since taking over the horses training. Mr Faulkner added that the performance of the horse at its last two starts had been affected by wide barriers and being forced to race wide throughout. Mr Faulkner also provided evidence that KOSCIUSKO had an elevated temperature following its most recent start, which he indicated was indicative of a virus. Trainer M Faulkner was charged and found guilty under AR105(3) in that he had failed to notify stewards that KOSCIUSKO had an elevated temperature and signs of a virus post-race, which constituted a condition which may have contributed to KOSCIUSKO’s poor performance at Toowoomba on April 14, 2022. Mr Faulkner was subsequently fined the sum of $500. POWER BOOM – Declared a late scratching at 2:08pm at the request of trainer G Thornton due to the downgrade of the track. SISTER KATHLEEN – Slow to begin. KABOOM – Tightened for room and steadied shortly after the start. ORSETTO – Raced wide without cover. Lost off hind plate in running.
