El Asteroid (NZ) – Slow to begin. Shades Of Louvre – Slow to begin. Belle Of The Bayou – Raced greenly and hung out throughout the event. Brydelicious – Began awkwardly and raced greenly throughout. Extreme Belief – Raced greenly during the early stages and hung out rounding the home turn. Mishani Choice – Slow to begin. Race 2: THE BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 800 metres Better To Excel – Raced wide. He’s a Devil – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running when rounding the home turn. I Am Pearl – Raced wide. Tullamore Lad – Slow to begin. Last Laugh – Raced wide. My Miss Moonpie – Raced wide. Inclined to lay in under pressure. Rider dropped whip near the 150m. Miss Spontaneous – Returned to scale with blood in its mouth. Race 3: ALLISON BADEN-CLAY FOUNDATION Maiden Handicap 1100 metres Control Freak – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Improved onto heels near the 800m when the pace slackened and had to be checked before shifting wider and becoming very awkward. Media Hype – Checked when obliged to race in restricted room near the 800m. Ranikka – Trainer B Ahrens was fined $200 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of A Thompson. Raced greenly throughout and hung out rounding the home turn. A post-race vet examination revealed no abnormalities. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the horses racing manners. Silvanna's Song – Raced ungenerously when restrained approaching the 800m before being shifted wider to avoid heels near the 800m and raced wide from that point onwards. Vonzither – Held up for clear running when rounding the home turn. War Hope – Proved difficult to load, causing a delay to the start. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings barrier manners. Slow to begin. Dundas – Held up for clear running when rounding the home turn. Race 4: STRIVE TO BE KIND Class 4 Handicap 1200 metres Grand Zou – Slow to begin. Steward opened an inquiry into the tactics adopted by jockey R Fradd during the early stages of the event until approaching the 900m. After taking evidence from jockey Fradd this matter was adjourned until a time and date to be fixed in order to review the betting in the race. Zelify – Rider K Wilson-Taylor reported that his mount raced keenly during the early stages, however after obtaining cover near the 800m settled well and travelled comfortably from that point, before proving disappointing over the concluding stages. Post-race vet examination revealed no abnormalities. Torun – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly when three wide without cover throughout and had a tendency to lay in under pressure. Saddle Boy – Slow to begin. Lost the off fore plate in running. She's Crowned – Raced wide. Race 5: SPARTAN SOCIAL CLUB Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres Dembe – Trainer K Schweida was asked to explain the seemingly improved performance, he indicated that at the horses had performed well last preparation with the exception of its last start when it had come to the end of its preparation and raced on a rain effected surface. He also added that first up this preparation had again been on a soft track and he had not been disappointed with the performance and had expected a forward showing today.Ascot Express (NZ) – Slow to begin. Astute – Raced wide without cover. Excel In The Sun – Underwent a Pre-race vet examination as the mare had not started in over 12 months and was cleared to start. As R Maloney was to be over-weight he was subsequently replaced by M Cahill. R Maloney was fined the sum of $200 under AR 190(3). Over-raced during the early stages. Sinead - Underwent a Pre-race vet examination as the mare had not started in over 12 months and was cleared to start. Mexican Star – Improved onto heels near the 200m and obliged to alter course. Rockin' Artie – Raced wide. Emperor's Secret – Raced wide. Without Choice – Steadied when placed in restricted room near the 1100m. Steadied to avoid heels near the 800m and shifted wider for a short distance. Anacheeva Lad – Bumped and forced wider near the 800m before racing wide from that point onwards. Race 6: SCHWEPPES BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 1350 metres Following the running of Race 5 the track was upgraded to Good 4. Irish Homie (IRE) – Forced wider near the 500m. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight placing its rider at a disadvantage. Lemon Duchess – Prior to the declaration of correct weight, apprentice J Cornish applied to have LEMON DUCHESS declared a non-runner alleging the mare had been denied a fair start. After taking evidence from trainer G Cornish, apprentice J Cornish and starter C Wallace, stewards viewed the footage of the start and established that LEMON DUCHESS had reared as the barriers opened and had turned its head into the adjoining barrier, causing the mare to be considerably slow to begin. Stewards therefore ruled that other than for LEMON DUCHESS’s own actions the mare had been afforded a fair start and therefore ruled the horse to be a runner, declaring correct weight on the judges semaphored numbers. Kappy Cino – Bled one nostril post-race. Acting under AR 79(8) stewards ordered that KAPPY CINO must gallop 1000m in the presence of stewards prior to racing again. Chevy Nova – Slow to begin. Kudu – Raced wide during the early stages. Danezel – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start. Forced wider near the 500m when attempting a tight run to the outside of RARI, which shifted out to improve. A Allen, the rider of RARI, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Daring Belle – Forced wider near the 500m. Maddiara – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start. Forced wider near the 500m.River Rocket Race 7: GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1350 metres Harvesta – Raced wide. Held up for clear running when rounding the home turn and had difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 150m. Afsoon (NZ) – Had a tendency to lay in throughout the event. Tycoon Dancer – Raced wide. Amore Primus – Held up for a short distance during the early stages of the home straight. Rakkaus – Stood-flat footed as the start was affected and lost significant ground. Connections were advised that a further barrier certificate would be required prior to racing again. Checked when tightened for room near the 700m between EL CHAPARRO and MAWARRAD, which shifted out. H Richardson, the rider of MAWARRAD, was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a), in assessing penalty stewards took into account H Richardson’s good record in relation to careless riding matters. Sienna's Award – Over-raced and obliged to steady from heels near the 1100m. Raced wide. We All Agree – Slow to begin. Over-raced approaching the 1100m and had to be checked from heels. Raced wide. Atlantic Royal – Raced wide. Race 8: SIRROMET Class 1 Handicap 2150 metres Prince Alby (NZ) – Slow to begin. Saint Martin – Bumped near the 1500m and forced to race wide from that point onwards. Inclined to lay in from the 500m onwards. Magic Mikey (NZ) – Trainer S Foster reported that the gelding had become fractious enroute to the track and had suffered a minor laceration to the nearside knee. The gelding underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Carlos (NZ) – Momentarily raced in restricted room when weakening rounding the home turn. Diamond Dagger – When asked to comment on the seemingly disappointing performance jockey R Jamieson stated that the horse did not travel comfortably at any stage of the event and in her opinion the mare is more suited to racing on rain effected surfaces. Post-race vet examination revealed no abnormalities. Dotned – Over-raced when restrained from heels near the 1500m. October Joy – Raced wide. SAXON ROSE – Slow to begin. Found The Mark – Slow to begin. Race 9: BUBBLY BRUNCH 28 AUGUST ON SALE BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1666 metres Class Of Royalty – J Cornish reported that the gelding raced flat and may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer J Zielke reported that it would be his intention to send the horse for a spell. Crockett – Hung out when rounding the home turn. Regal Edition – Hung in under pressure in the home straight. Mt Mort Shark (NZ) – Raced ungenerously shifting in and away from CLASS OF ROYALTY near the 1500m and lost ground as a result, continued to race ungenerously until leaving the 900m.Wheels (NZ) – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Held up for clear running from the 500m until leaving the 300m. Canny Cat – Raced wide. Sister Kathleen – Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 900m onwards.
