GENERAL
As Sean Cormack was not riding at the meeting for acceptable reasons riding replacements were made as per the Race Day summary sheet.
 
 
Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Plate 1350 metres
 
BETTER BELIEVE IT – Fractious after being loaded into the barriers. In the presence of trainer P Duff, apprentice W Peel, rider of fourth placegetter BETTER BELIEVE, was found guilty of a charge pursuant to AR131(b) in that she failed to ride the horse out fully to the end of the race and was fined $200. In assessing penalty Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied her actions had cost BETTER BELIEVE IT third placing.
 
PERFECT NIGHT OUT – Slow to muster speed in the early stages. Rider R Fradd could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer S Kendrick was advised PERFECT NIGHT OUT would incur a metropolitan bar until it establishes form at provincial venues.
 
RUSSIAN DIVA – Over-raced in the early stages.  Raced three wide without cover throughout the event. Inconvenienced and taken wider rounding the home turn when SPILLIFY hung out. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Rider R Jamieson reported the horse raced greenly at various stages of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.
 
SPILLIFY – Commenced to hangout near the 500m and rounding the home turn took RUSSIAN DIVA wider on the track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
 
Race 2: TAB VENUE MODE QTIS Three-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Maiden Plate 1350 metres
 
ABAN (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
CANELANDER – Raced three wide with cover for the majority of the event. Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover.
 
DOMINANCE – Rider J Orman reported the horse laid out for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
MISHANI MOBSTER – Slow to begin.
 
RAPID DUDE – Jumped out at the start and bumped WHERE YA BEAN.
 
SHADES OF LOUVRE – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
WHERE YA BEAN – After being slow to begin was bumped by RAPID DUDE which jumped out at the start and lost ground. Over-raced in the early stages and had to be steadied from heels near the 800m when continuing to over-race. Laid out approaching the home turn.
 
 
 
Race 3: BUBBLY BRUNCH 28 AUGUST Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
UGO HUGO – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was readjusted. Slow to begin. Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
ISLAND MAGIC – Momentarily held up for clear running leaving the 300m before shifting out a short distance later approaching the 200m to obtain clear running.
 
SWEET WIND – Bumped on jumping away.
 
ULTIMATE OUTCOME – Began awkwardly.
 
GOOD'N'LUCKY – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
SURREEL - Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event.
 
DOCTOR JACK - Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event.
 
 
 
Race 4: SCHWEPPES Colts, Geldings & Entires BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1350 metres
 
MEATBALL – Slow to begin.
 
DAY DAY SUPREME – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination confirmed the horse had bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer B Baldwin was advised DAY DAY SUPREME would be stood down from racing pursuant to AR79(4) for a period of 3 months and must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m prior to its next race start.
 
MILLWARD – Slow to begin, then lost ground when crowded between runners.  Raced in restricted room and had to be steadied near the 1100m.Inclined to lay in rounding the home turn and carried wider and had to be steadied from the heels of TOLKOWSKY which shifted out to improve. Continued to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SERGEANT SILVA – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room and had to be steadied near the 1100m and then continued to over-race on heels for a short distance thereafter.
 
CARNEROS – Raced three wide in the early and middle stages.
 
 
 
Race 5: THE BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT Fillies & Mares BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1350 metres
 
EPICURIOUS – Jumped in at the start.
 
DREAM SONG – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up for clear running for the length of the home straight and went to the line unable to be fully tested by its rider.
 
DRIVE A DEEL – Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor, rider of fourth placegetter DRIVE A DEEL, pleaded guilty of a charge pursuant to AR131(b) in that he failed to ride the horse out fully to the end of the race and was fined $200.
 
PRASIOLITE – Rider J Orman reported the horse did not appreciate today’s firm track conditions.
 
IF YOU CAN DREAM – Held up for clear running for the length of the home straight and went to the line unable to be fully tested by its rider.
 
KOKOPO KITTY – Bumped at the start and lost ground when tightened between A CALL FROM HEAVEN which jumped out and EPICURIOUS which jumped in.
 
A CALL FROM HEAVEN – Jumped out at the start.
 
GULLFOSS – Raced three wide for the majority of the event.
 
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 3.
 
 
Race 6: TRIVIA NIGHT 16 SEPTEMBER Class 3 Plate 1200 metres
 
MAGNITUDO - Trainer L Gough was fined $200 pursuant to LR67 for failing to declare a rider on the horse by the prescribed time. Approaching the finish line shifted in under pressure crowding runners to the inside, then shifted out when being corrected resulting in MAGNITUDO being awkwardly placed at heels, shifting out resulting in TORUN being checked. A Jones was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
CLAIRVUE STAR – Held up approaching the home turn.
 
TORUN – Slow to begin then buffeted between runners and lost ground. Raced wide from the 600m.
 
ZOUKINA – Approaching the 500m raced in restricted room and contacted the running rail. Held up for clear running for the length of the home straight and went to the line unable to be fully tested by its rider.
 
ARGYLE PINK – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
MORIOKA – Raced in restricted room for some distance to the inside of ARGYLE PINK leaving the 700m and continued to race in restricted room until approaching the home turn. Held up for clear running from the entrance to the home straight until approaching the finish line. When asked to comment on tactics leaving the 600m, specifically if there was an opportunity to improve and shift wider on the track, rider S Collett explained after racing awkwardly to the inside of the heels of ARGYLE PINK, she was prevented from improving as TORUN had improved quickly to her outside at that point of the race.
 
 
Race 7: SIRROMET Class 1 Handicap 1100 metres
 
MARY VALLEY – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was readjusted. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
KING'S EXPRESS – Began awkwardly. Near the 800m raced in restricted room to the inside of CHIEF ARTIE for a short distance and had to steadied. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
LEGEND RULES – Bumped on jumping.
 
CHIEF ARTIE – Raced keenly for a short distance near the 800m. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
IMMORAL – Inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight resulting in its rider being obliged to stop riding and correct on a number of occasions. When asked to comment on tactics adopted apprentice A Jones stated being first up today instructions were to race in a forward position adding that IMMORAL had led in a recent barrier trial. Apprentice Jones further stated that the horse did not appreciate today’s firmer track conditions.
 
EXCEL IN THE SUN – As R Maloney was to be over-weight Stewards permitted J Byrne to ride the horse. R Maloney was fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3). Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
NASHA – Began awkwardly and jumped out at the start bumping LEGEND RULES. Near the 700m improved onto heels and had to be steadied.
 
VONZITHER – Blundered on jumping and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
 
Race 8:  GREAT NORTHERN Class 5 Handicap 1100 metres
 
AMERICAN SAINT dislodged apprentice A Jones moving onto the track, made heavy contact with inside running rail and galloped a significant distance before being declared a late scratching at 4:34pm by order of Stewards. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on AMERICAN SAINT refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
 
1st VAST KAMA – 4c win, 6c place
2nd THE BILLIONAIRE – 7c place
3rd NEVER PAID – 4c place
 
Apprentice A Jones took no ill effect from this incident.
A post-race veterinary examination of AMERICAN SAINT revealed no abnormality.
 
As a result of remedial work required to repair the running rail, this start of this event was delayed approximately 2 minutes.
 
NEVER PAID – Began awkwardly. Rider J Orman reported the horse did not appreciate the firmer track conditions.
 
LASTING KISS – Bumped with POETIC CHOICE on jumping. When asked to comment on the performance rider R Maloney stated the horse did not appreciate today’s firmer track conditions and would also benefit from a step up in distance.
 
TICKLER – Stood flat footed at the start and refused to jump, taking no competitive part in the event. Trainer R Tyrell was advised TICKLER must trial satisfactorily on 2 consecutive occasions prior to its next race start.
 
VAST KAMA – Trainer M Kropp was fined $100 pursuant to LR67 for failing to declare a rider on the horse by the prescribed time. Bumped rounding the home turn.
 
POETIC CHOICE – Bumped with LASTING KISS on jumping.
