GENERAL
 
As Melea Castle was not riding at the meeting for acceptable reasons and Yvette Lewis was ill, Stewards permitted riding changes as per the Race Day summary sheet. Y Lewis was advised she will require a medical clearance prior to her next race or trial ride.
 
LUCIFER’S REWARD was declared a late scratching at 1:53pm due to transport issues.
 
Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 3: CENTRESTONE – James Orman – 56.5kg (+0.5kg)
 
 
Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB Fillies and Mares Class 3 Plate 1200 metres
 
BLINDING LIGHT – Began awkwardly.
 
GUNMETAL GIRL – Sprawled at the start and lost ground. Raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event when the pace was steady. Raced wide for the majority.
 
SHAGONAROCK – Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn. Rider M Cahill reported after beginning well and with little early speed shown by runners drawn to the inside, he permitted SHAGONAROCK to stride forward and settle in the position outside the leader shortly after the start.
 
Following this event, the track was upgraded to a Good 4.
 
 
Race 2: TAB Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 3 Plate 1200 metres
 
DARK HORSE – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. Rider M Harley reported he was disappointed with the horse’s performance when placed under pressure over the final 150 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
IMPEL GAZELLE – When asked to comment rider J Guthmann-Chester reported the horse was first up today and after beginning only fairly settled at the rear of the field, adding that the early tempo of the race did not suit IMPEL GAZELLE. He added the horse worked to line well over the concluding stages of the event and that in his opinion IMPEL GAZELLE would benefit from a step up in distance going forward into its preparation.
 
ASCOT EXPRESS – Bumped by CHARGE ON on the hindquarters at the start.
 
CHARGE ON – Jumped out at the start and bumped ASCOT EXPRESS on the hindquarters. Rider E Chaves was reminded of his obligations under AR132(6)(b) regarding raising his whip hand above shoulder height.
 
HELSUN – Slow to begin.
 
STORM ATTACK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 3: SIRROMET Class 1 Handicap 1710 metres
 
ENUNCIATION – Rider T Marshall explained he attempted settle in a more forward position however ENUNCIATION was unable to muster speed in the early stages which he attributed to the horse having raced at the Beaudesert meeting 6 days previously. 
 
MIRROR ONE – Approaching the 150m obliged to steady from the heels of CRITICAL THINKER which shifted out under pressure. B Thornton, rider of CTRITICAL THINKER, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
STAR SMASH – Caught three wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward and race in the position outside the leader from the 1200m. Inclined to lay out from the 500 metres and near the 300m put in an awkward stride and became unbalanced momentarily. Rider T Harrison subsequently reported this was STAR SMASH’S first start on a right-handed track and would take benefit from the experience.
 
METAVERSE – Jumped out at the start and bumped with OKALANI. Approaching the 1300m steadied from heels when over-racing.
 
OKALANI – Jumped in at the start and bumped with METAVERSE. Rider B Thompson reported he was disappointed with the horse’s finishing effort when place under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
 
SISYPHEAN – Rider T Brooker reported the horse was inclined to hang out from the 600m.
 
 
Race 4: ARNOLD & MCCROW REMEMBRANCE FUND Maiden Plate 1710 metres
 
THRAX – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted to the inside of BAGUIO in the early stages. Laid out approaching the 400m.
 
TIGER FOR LIFE – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Steadied from the heels of THRAX in the early stages of the event.
 
BABY RUN – Laid out rounding the home turn. Shifted out under pressure near the 200m.
 
BAGUIO – Rider A Thompson reported the horse was inclined to change strides on a number of occasions during the event and near the 600m became awkward in its action when racing to the inside of PARIS FASHION.
 
DESHORENTE – Jumped out at the start. Near the 200m laid in under pressure and brushed with IS THAT YOU ETHEL.
 
IS THAT YOU ETHEL – Near the 200m brushed with DESHORENTE which laid in under pressure.
 
PARIS FASHION – Slow to begin.
 
STAC POLLAIDH – Near the 200m inconvenienced when BABY RUN shifted out under pressure.
 
LA VITTORIA – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
 
Race 5: GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres
 
OAKFIELD TARGET – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
DICKENSIAN – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Obliged to steady at entrance of home straight when awkwardly placed between MISTA OMEGA and NIC ME SOME. When asked to comment on tactics adopted from the 600m rider B Thornton advised after settling at the rear of the field, and with the positioned out 10 metres, he was reluctant to come wide from 600m around NIC ME SOME which he believed would not carry him into the race, so he therefore elected to remain inside the heels of NIC ME SOME passing the 500m and attempt to follow MISS BALTIMORE into the race. Stewards noted the explanation of B Thornton.
 
STRYKING PRINCESS – K Yoshida, rider of STRYKING PRINCESS, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
MISTA OMEGA – Slow to muster speed in the early stages of the event.
 
YES TO EXCESS – Had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at heels approaching the winning post.Rider B Thompson reported he was disappointed in the performance of the horse which he attributed to him being obliged to apply pressure to YES TO EXCESS in the early stages of the event in an endeavour to secure a forward position. He added in his opinion YES TO EXCESS may be better suited ridden more conservatively in the early stages of its races.
 
TRES REDOUTE – After becoming fractious in the tie up stalls underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. The saddle on the horse slipped back on jumping away resulting in rider G Cartwright being placed at a disadvantage throughout the event. Approaching the winning post, shifted out under pressure and became very awkwardly placed at the heels of MISS BALTIMORE resulting in G Cartwright being unable to ride the horse out in her usual manner at that point.
 
 
Race 6: SCHWEPPES BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 800 metres
 
COMMANDEERING – Put in an awkward stride leaving the 700m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off foreleg. Trainer B Hull was advised COMMADEERING would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race or trial start.
 
DREAM WEAVING – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
LILLI LIGHTS OUT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up for clear running near the 200m Lost near fore plate in running. Rider A Thompson reported after being slow to begin he then elected shift toward the rail in an endeavour to save ground, adding that LILI LIGHTS OUT finished the race off well in the home straight. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
COSMIC SERENADE – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
MANDALONG ROMAN – Laid in under during the early stages of the home straight before shifting out near the 100 metres to secure clear running.
 
BETTER WINSOME - Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
SEQUESAY – Shifted in and contacted the running rail near the 500m.
 
BOOGIELU – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
 
 
Race 7: KINGSLEY LAWSON LAWYERS Class 4 Handicap1100 metres
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing M Cahill, rider of second placegetter CABSAV, to view the photo finish image for first. After doing so correct weight was declared on the semaphored placings.
 
PRINCESS BOJACK – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
IRING – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 900m laid in and away from LIGHT OF BOOM resulting in WITTLE being placed in restricted room and having to be steadied. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
WRITTLE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Placed in restricted room near the 900m and had to be steadied.
 
WUDDACUDDASHUDDA – Jumped out at the start.
 
MOST DAZZLING – Bumped heavily near the 200m when LIGHT OF BOOM shifted out in an endeavour to secure clear running. E Chaves, rider of LIGHT OF BOOM, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
 
LIGHT OF BOOM – Jumped in at the start and bumped SAY GOODBYE.
 
CABSAV – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
SAY GOODBYE – Bumped at the start.
 
KING OF THE DESERT – Contacted on the hindquarters shortly after the start and lost ground.
