SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
Doomben Trials 17th January 2023 (Trial 16) CHICOUVER – Passing the 400m CHICOUVER was eased out of the event and near the 200m rider G Cartwright dismounted after the horse went amiss in the off-hind leg. CHICOUVER was immediately attended to and treated by the attending QRIC veterinary surgeon before being transported to trainer R Heathcote’s stables for further assessment and treatment. A short time later it was established that CHICOUVER had sustained a fracture to the pelvic region and the horse was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds. 
 
GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 1: MISHANI MYSTIQUE: J Orman – 56kg (+1kg)
Race 5: SIBYLLA: Ryan Maloney - 55.5kg (+0.5kg) 
 
 
 
Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden
Plate 800 metres
 
SUNDAY MAIL – Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
GLASS OF ROSE – Slow to begin.Had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300m and 100m.
 
MISHANI AMBITIOUS – Slow to begin. Raced greenly rounding the home turn.
 
MISHANI MYSTIQUE – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
ONYABIKE CHARLIE – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 2: TAB BENCHMARK 75 Handicap 800 metres
 
THE TENOR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
RHYTHMIC PULSE – Began awkwardly resulting in rider J Adams becoming unbalanced in the saddle for a short distance after contacting the offside barrier partition.
 
LIZA WITH A ZEE – Dropped its head as the start was effected and lost ground.
 
PATENTED – Laid out approaching the home turn.
 
SPINNING SPIRIT – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn until a point near the 200m before shifting across the heels of THE TENOR a short distance later to secure clear running.
 
SEQUESAY – Slow to begin. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Rider B Thompson reported he was not overly disappointed with the performance of the horse, but in his opinion SEQUESAY would benefit from a step-up on distance.
 
 
Race 3: SIRROMET Maiden Plate 1350 metres
 
CHICAGO FIELD – Restrained from heels leaving the 700m.
 
MON CADEAU – Jumped out at the start and bumped HIDDEN SAINT. Raced wide in the early stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader from the 900m. Laid out for the majority of the event.
 
STAR CHANCE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Restrained from heels approaching the 600m.
 
HIDDEN SAINT – Bumped at the start and lost ground.
 
NEOCLASSICISM – Began awkwardly. Rider B Thompson reported NEOCLASSICISM may, in his opinion, benefit from racing with cover in its races. 
 
GLIDE ON BY – Taken wider rounding the home turn when MON CADEAU laid out.
 
 
Race 4: STROUD HOMES IPSWICH BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 2210 metres
 
LETS TORQUE A DEEL – Hampered passing the 500m behind the weakening TUKI TWELVE and lost significant ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
MEMOIRE PARFAIT – B Loy, rider of MEMOIRE PARFAIT, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
BAY STREET – Laid out shortly after the start.
 
TUKI TWELVE – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader from the 1400m. Weakened from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed
 
LIKEABEEL – Slow to begin.
 
SCILAGO – Raced wide from the 1100m.
 
SO YOU KNEW – Laid in under pressure near the 150m obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten his mount at that point.When asked to comment on tactics adopted near the 900m, particularly not to shift wider on the track, rider B Thompson explained SO YOU KNEW was stepping up significantly in distance today and that he was conscious of not exposing the horse too early in the race today. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
CHAYSE 'N' NOAH – K Zechner, rider of CHAYSE ‘N’ NOAH, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on 7 occasions prior to 100m, 2 more than permitted. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer V Venkaya advised he was of the belief the horse was unlucky at its most recent start at Ballina on 13th January when unable to improve from 400m, and with the step up in distance, he was confident of a forward showing in today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
 
Race 5: OPEN EVENING 2 FEBRUARY Class 1 Handicap 1710 metres
 
MAGIC MIKEY – After dislodging rider A Allen moving onto the track galloped some distance before being declared a late scratching at 3:56pm on veterinary advice. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on MAGIC MIKEY refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
 
1st SIBYLLA – 2c win, 2c place
2nd dead heat VYNER – 2c place
2nd dead heat TAPILDOOLEDO – 3c place
 
A veterinary examination of MAGIC MIKEY revealed minor abrasions to the near hind and near forelegs. Trainer S Foster was advised MAGIC MIKEY would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.
 
VYNER – Held up rounding the home turn. Laid out under pressure over final 150m. Apprentice J Lloyd was advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts in similar circumstances.
 
MISHANI MISSILE – Jumped out at the start and bumped FIGHTING MAD. Caught wide in the early stages before progressing forward to race outside the leader from the 900m.
 
ZEITAKUNA – Steadied from heels when over-racing near the 1400m.Caught wide in the early stages before progressing forward to lead the event from the 800m.
 
FIGHTING MAD – Bumped at the start. Over-raced in the early stages of the event.
 
ALPHA JANE – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start.
 
VANCITY – Slow to begin.

DERRY GROVE – As had not started for an extended period, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. Approaching the winning post, when under pressure, shifted in and away from INASEC which tended to lay in at that point. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
INASEC – Slipped behind on jumping and as a result settled further back in the field than anticipated. Held up and unable to improve between the 550m until entering the home straight. Laid in under pressure over final 150m obliging rider A Jones to stop riding and straighten her mount on a number of occasions.

ROWDASH – Began awkwardly and contacted the offside barrier partition. Apprentice I Rabjones reported the horse felt awkward in its action on pulling up.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
CAMPAI – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event.
 
TOP BIRD – Put in an awkward stride near the 450m and then laid out for the remainder of the event. Rider L Allen reported the horse did not feel entirely comfortable in its action throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination no abnormalities.
 
NERETVA - Lost off hind plate in running.
 
 
 
 
Race 7: THE SHED COMPANY IPSWICH Class 2 Handicap 1200 metres
 
COMRADE ROSA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up for clear running from the 600m until entering the home straight.
 
DON'T DISS AROUND – Over-raced in the early stages of the event. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
EMALEAH – Slow to begin.
 
MAXIE TAP – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.Raced wide for the majority of the event.

ARCARIUS – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on tactics adopted near the 600m, particularly to remain in a one-off position at that point of the race, rider B Loy stated he was content to follow the favourite COMRADE ROSA, adding that if he were to race wide at the 600m he felt ARCARIUS would be forced very wide rounding the home turn. Rider B Loy was reminded of his obligations under AR131(b) to ride his mounts out fully to the line.
 

 
Race 8: THE BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT BENCHMARK 68 Handicap
1350 metres
 
SPOKESMAN – Slow to begin. Forced wider rounding the home turn.
 
AMERICANA MAGIC – Slow to muster speed in the early stages.Lost off hind plate in running.
 
SEACOLE – Forced wider rounding the home turn. Eased in the home straight after rider R Maloney reported the horse felt awkward in its action when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer D Vandyke was disappointed with the performance and gave an undertaking to report back to Stewards any condition which may explain today’s performance.  
 
DE MANARA – Rider J Byrne reported in his opinion the horse would now benefit from a step-up in distance.
 
SAINT MARTIN – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
AIN'T SHE LOVELY – Over-raced in the middle stages. Made the home turn awkwardly forcing SEACOLE, DARING BELLE and SPOKESMAN wider on the track.
 
ALERT AND READY – From the wide barrier restrained shortly after the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
 
DARING BELLE – Forced wider rounding the home turn. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
MISS BALTIMORE – Began awkwardly.
