Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB Maiden Plate 1670 metres

ARIK LAD – Bumped at the start.

GALIFIANAKIS – Change of tactics, more forward if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin, settled in a worse than midfield position. Following the event rider B Thompson reported he would have preferred to have settled in a position one pair closer, however as a result of being slow to begin raced further back in the field than anticipated.

IN CLOSE REACH – Over-raced in the early stages of the event.

STAR CHANCE – Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event.

WHERE YA BEAN – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer S Dwyer advised at its first start for the stable at SCTC on 22nd January WHERE YA BEAN settled back in the field and over-raced which does not suit the horse’s racing pattern. He added today WHERE YA BEAN was able to settle comfortably in a three wide position and was also suited by the step up in distance. Stewards noted the explanation of Mr Dwyer.

DUCHESS BREE – Jumped out at the start and bumped ARIK LAD.

MODELE – Slow to begin.

NAUGHTY NINJA – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MOFILO – Slow to begin. Laid out for a short distance near the 400m. Shifted out under pressure over final 200m.

FAME INSPIRER – Rider T Harrison reported the horse failed to muster early speed in the early stages of the event and settled in the second half of the field which she attributed to FAME INSPIRER being field shy from the inside barrier when racing to the inside of other runners.  Raced greenly in the middle stages of the event and lost ground.

POSALA – A post-race veterinary examination confirmed the horse had bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer T Churchill was advised POSALA would be stood down from racing under AR79(4) for 3 months and must gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to its next race start.

SHOULD KNOW BETTER – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

EYELEFTIT – Slow to begin.

PRETTY FLASH – Shifted wider from the 700m and raced wide from that point.

COPPERCHINO – Rider J Taylor reported after becoming unbalanced near the 1100m failed to travel from that point of the race.A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be making an abnormal respiratory noise. Ms Churchill indicated the horse would now be sent for an immediate spell.

STAR SMASH – Approaching the winning post on the first occasion was steadied to avoid the heels of STORM ATTACK which shifted in when not fully clear. Over-raced in the early stages of the event. Laid out rounding the home turn.

STORM ATTACK – Stewards questioned the tactics adopted by apprentice A Bakos, rider of STORM ATTACK in the early stages of the event, particularly the slow early pace adopted when crossing runners to her inside approaching the winning post on the first occasion. After hearing concerns raised by Stewards and viewing the available patrol footage, apprentice Bakos agreed she had erred in that she had set a too slow a pace when crossing runners to her inside and in hindsight would have been better served setting a more genuine pace when progressing forward at that point of the race. Given the limited experience of A Bakos in riding in longer distance races, Stewards took the matter no further other than to note the circumstances.

Race 6: SIRROMET Class 4 Handicap 1350 metres

SOUTHERN STOCK – Approaching the 100m was placed in restricted room before being obliged to shift back to the inside to secure clear running.

Trainer D Vandyke was advised under AR79(8) JUNGLE BEAT must gallop 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to its next race start.

SABALENKA – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
