GENERAL
 Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 1: SLICK HEELS – S McGovern 55kgs (+1kg)
Race 1: PENDOLAY – S McGovern 55kgs (+1kg)
 
 
 
Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB Maiden Handicap 2150 metres
 
TOOLATEMATE – Change of tactics, more forward if circumstances permit. Raced outside the leader until progressing forward to lead the event from the 900m.
 
CAOIMHE – Over-raced in the early stages of the event.
 
RED OSCAR – Slow to muster speed in the early stages of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SLICK HEELS – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 2: ST PATRICK'S RACES MARCH QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 800 metres
 
FLYING RUPERT, after being loaded into the barriers, became fractious, was removed, underwent a veterinary examination, and was declared a late scratching at 1:46pm on veterinary advice. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on FLYING RUPERT refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:
 
1st MOUETTE – 30c win, 17c place
2nd GLAMBORGINI – 35c place
3rd HUBBUB – n/a
 
Trainers’ representative for T Gollan was advised FLYING RUPERT would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race or trial start.
 
Rider Ryan Maloney was examined by QAS staff and stood down from his remaining riding engagements. Replacements were made as per the Race Day summary sheet. R Maloney was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to his next race or trial ride.
 
HUBBUB – On arrival at the barriers the re-saddle on the horse was readjusted.
 
PENDOLAY – Reluctant to enter the saddling enclosure. Co-trainer D Lane was advised a warning would be placed on PENDOLAY’S pre-race manners.
 
 
Race 3: PENNYWISE QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate 800 metres
 
SPEEDY MACHO – Slow to begin.
 
APACHE MINTO – Apprentice C Collis, rider of APACHE MINTO, was fined $400 under AR131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the end of the race. In assessing penalty Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that his actions had cost APACHE MINTO fourth place.
 
ASSYMETRY – Raced greenly in the home straight when placed under pressure.
 
HUSSY EMPRESS – Slow to begin.
 
MILEY'S MEMORY – Hung out in the early stages of the event.
 
Following the running of this race and after receiving 7mls of rainfall, the track was reassessed retrospectively to a Soft 5.
 
 
 
Race 4: SIRROMET BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 2500 metres
 
BERNIE'S TIGER – Began very awkwardly resulting in rider Y Lewis becoming very unbalanced in the saddle and the horse losing ground.
 
KIPLING'S JOURNEY – Rider B Wheeler reported the horse failed to quicken when placed under pressure from the 600m and KIPLING’S JOURNEY appeared to race flat today.
 
LETS TORQUE A DEEL – Raced wide in the early stages before progressing forward to lead the event from the 1600m. Raced keenly in the middle stages. In addition to being swabbed post-race immediately following the event Stewards ordered a second swab sample be taken from LET’S TORQUE A DEEL after Race 8. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer L Manzelmann explained the horse was suited by the step up in distance today, having won previously over the distance at Beaudesert, adding that LETS TORQUE A DEEL had pulled well after racing on Saturday 25th February at the GCTC meeting and had performed well previously when backing up. Stewards noted the explanation of Mr Manzelmann.
 
STAR SMASH – Over-raced in the early stages of the event. Hung out from the 600m and made the home turn very wide on the track and continued to hang out in the home straight.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off-hind leg. Trainer M Wilson was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race or trial start.  Mr Wilson indicated it would now be his intention to spell STAR SMASH.
 
ZELSON – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
HARBELLE – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages.
 
 
Race 5: TAB RATINGS BAND 0 - 68 Handicap 1666 metres
 
FLYBRIDGE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced in the early stages of the event.
 
LATELY – When the pace of the race was steady in the early stages, left a one-off trailing position and progressed forward to race outside the leader from the 800m.
 
ZADIG – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery and signs of mild heat stress.
 
STORM ATTACK – Bumped on the hindquarters on two occasions shortly after the start. M Castle, rider of STORM ATTACK, was reminded of her obligations under AR132(6)(c) for use of the whip on a horse out of contention.
 
SEERESS – Near the 150m was steadied when awkwardly placed at heels of FLYBRIDGE.
 
 
Race 6: GREAT NORTHERN Maiden Handicap 1350 metres
 
After arriving at the barriers, it was noted a section of the inside running rail had been dislodged. As a result, the start of this event was delayed approximately 3 minutes.
 
AL ASH LAD – Hung out rounding the home turn before then laying in when placed under pressure soon after entering the home straight. After being corrected was then taken in near the 150m by ALABAMBA GOLD which shifted in resulting in AL ASH LAD having to be steadied. Andrew Spinks, rider of ALABAMA GOLD, was advised to exercise greater in similar circumstances.
 
THE KING SLAYER – From the wide barrier was restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
 
DARKENED DESTINY – Knuckled on jumping and became unbalanced. Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn. Disappointed for run soon after entering the home straight to the inside of AL Ash lad which after hanging out rounding the home turn then laid in a short distance later.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
GUTHO – Checked at the start when CAPITAL MEG jumped out abruptly at the start.
 
BETTER BELIEVE IT – Jumped in at the start and bumped SEA SHELL FLY.
 
CAPITAL MEG – Jumped out abruptly at the start. Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event.
 
DAWN REBEL – Lost near fore plate in running.
 
SEA SHELL FLY – Bumped at the start.
 
TIGER FOR LIFE – Held up for clear running from the 250m until the winning post and was unable to be fully tested by its rider.
 
ALABAMA GOLD – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
 
 
Race 7: SCHWEPPES Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap1350 metres
 
Due to a gear adjustment on PICK ZA BEANS the start of this event was delayed approximately 4 minutes.
 
SIMPLY VENUS – Jumped out at the start and bumped PICK ZA BEANS.
 
PICK ZA BEANS – On arrival at the barriers the blinkers on the horse were replaced. Bumped at the start.
 
HEARSAY – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
MEXICAN STAR – Slow to begin. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
STREET SMARTS – When asked to comment on the performance rider J Byrne could offer no tangible explanation for the performance.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed abrasions to both hind bumpers. Trainer M Dunn indicated it would be his intention to scope SRREET SMARTS on return to his stables and report any findings back to Stewards.
 
FIVE FOOT EIGHT – Slow to muster speed in the early stages.
 
VANCITY – Raced wide with cover for the majority of the event.
 
 
 
Race 8: WWW.IEEC.COM.AU Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 Handicap 1350 metres
 
THE RAMPANT – Jumped out at the start and bumped heavily with ZATARA. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid out near the 150m. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages of the event.
 
BEAUREGARD – Checked at the start when CORDYCEPS MIRACLE jumped in abruptly.
 
MENOTTI – Over-raced for a short distance near the 600m.
 
LIKE A LARK – Bumped on the hindquarters near the 150m and shifted in.
 
CORDYCEPS MIRACLE – Jumped in abruptly at the start. Near the 50 metres was steadied after being awkwardly placed at the heels of LIKE A LARK which was taken out by THE RAMPANT when that horse shifted out under pressure. N Callow, rider of THE RAMPANT, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
ZATARA – Bumped heavily at the start and lost ground.
 
DOWN THE BARREL – Slow to begin.
 
AGARN – Near the 150m was crowded for room and had to be steadied between MENOTTI, which shifted out marginally to improve, and LIKE A LARK, which after being contacted on the hindquarters, shifted in.
