SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
From Toowoomba 29th April Race 2 Benchmark 58 Hdcp: On returning to the stables, Trainer K Kirwin reported OUTLAW JOSIE WALES had sustained lacerations to its near hind leg, consistent with having been galloped on during the event.
 
GENERAL
 
As Luke Tarrant & Olivia Donnell were not riding for personal reasons, Ryan Maloney was injured, Brodie Loy was ill and Cody Collis was stood down by his master, Stewards permitted riding changes as per the Race Day summary sheet.
 
Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 5: DAEDALUS – Ashley Morgan 55kg (+0.5kg)
 
 
Race 1: BUNDAMBA COMMUNITY STAKES Maiden Plate 800 metres
 
PRONTO VINCENTO – Slow to begin. Raced greenly throughout the event. Shifted out to improve near the 100m and bumped HONOUR MISSION.
 
DRAGON CLAWS – Inclined to lay out at various stages of the event. Fractious in the enclosure prior to the event and again on returning to the enclosure after the event. Trainer A Briskey was advised a warning would be placed on the horse’s pre-race and post-race manners
 
POLYGAL – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
TIKITIBOO – Slow to begin then hampered a short distance later.
 
HONOUR MISSION – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Bumped near the 100m.
 
SUPER GYPSY – Slow to begin.
 
DETROIT GIRL – Near the 400m when racing in restricted room was obliged to steady when DRAGON CLAWS shifted in and away from FREEWHEELER.
 
 
Race 2: WORKERS UNITED BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 800 metres
 
SHINSHINTO – Blundered shortly after the start.
 
BRING ME KASH – Change of tactics, to ridden with cover if circumstances permit. After beginning well raced in the position outside the leader.
 
YOU ESS ESS ARE – Laid out for the majority of the event.
 
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Soft 5.
 
 
Race 3: LABOUR DAY CLASSIC QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate 800 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 4 minutes when LIGHTSCAMERAACTION required the near hind plate to be refitted and ARACELI proved difficult to load.
 
BALALAIKA BIRD – Began awkwardly and lost ground.Raced greenly for the majority of the event and as a consequence was unable to be fully tested by its rider in the home straight. Trainer P Butterworth was advised a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
CHAKRA BOY – Declared a late scratching at 8:55am when found to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer S Livingstone was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
IRON POWER – Passing the 700m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of LETS DANCE JANDY which shifted in when not fully clear. A Donald, rider of LETS DANCE JANDY, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
A CERTAIN MAYBE – Apprentice B Wheeler expressed some concern with the action of the horse on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination revealedshin soreness in the near foreleg. Trainer C Anderson was advised A CERTAIN MAYBE would require a veterinary clearance if the horse were to start within a 6-week period. Trainer C Anderson advised the horse would now be sent for a spell.
 
LIGHTSCAMERAACTION – Cast near hind plate in the saddling enclosure and was refitted on arrival at the barriers. Underwent a veterinary examination prior to being loaded into the barriers and was cleared to start. Passing the 500m commenced to hang out until entering the home straight.
 
POPPY'S GOLD – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Passing the 500m commenced to hang out until entering the home straight. Raced greenly in the home straight and as a consequence was unable to be fully tested by its rider. Trainer J Wallace was advised a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners.
 
UPSTART LEGEND – A post-race veterinary examination revealed blood in the mouth, consistent with have bitten its tongue.
 
ARACELI – Delayed the start after proving difficult to load. Trainer K Fogden was advised ARACELI would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start. 
 
 
Race 4: GOOD JOBS, BETTER SERVICES QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1350 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 4 minutes due to the delay from Race 3.
 
ITALIAN VIRTUOSO – Declared a late scratching at 10:52am when found to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer T Lambourn was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
POWERALONG – From the wide barrier was restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails. Inclined to over-race in the middle stages when racing greenly.
 
BLUE MERLE – After being delayed arriving on course due to traffic issues, underwent a per-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up for a short distance rounding the home turn.
 
CLASSIQUE GAL – Slow to begin.
 
HOFF HIS FACE – Hung out from the 600m.
 
BETTER BELIEVE IT – Turned its head as the start was effected and as a consequence was slow to begin.
 
 
 
Race 5: IPSWICH TRADES HALL Class 2 Handicap 1666 metres
 
DAEDALUS – Slow to begin.
 
PICK ZA BEANS – Slow to begin.
 
TONI TOO – Slow to begin. After passing the 200m obliged to alter course to secure running.

SAGRADO – Jumped in at the start.
 
 
Race 6: SAFETY AT WORK BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1350 metres
 
REFORMIST – As J Adams was to be overweight, Stewards permitted D Peisley to ride the horse. J Adams was fined $200 under AR190(3). On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse adjusted.
 
GREEN REIGN – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and then had difficulty securing clear running between the 200m until a point leaving the 100m.
 
DIXON BAY – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
SAVILEO – From the wide barrier was restrained at the start to a rearward position closer to the rails.
 
DO WELL LEGEND – Raced keenly in the middle stages and was then held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
TUHINGA – Began awkwardly and jumped out at the start. Bumped by BYRON EYES near 1000m resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced for a short distance. Steadied near the 700m and obliged to shift wider on the track when BYRON EYES shifted in when not fully clear. L Tilley, rider of BYRON EYES, was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Raced wide from that point onwards.
 
KIKI COCO – Jumped in at the start. Raced greenly in the early stages of the event. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and again near the 200m.
 
BYRON EYES – Buffeted near the 1000m.
 
 
Race 7: HALL PAYNE LAWYERS STAKES BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1350 metres
 
BRAVE WARRIOR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
WANDER – Bumped near the 600m when BRAVE MASO shifted out from its inside to improve.
 
PEAK ROAD – Rider reported the horse felt short in its action when placed under pressure from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer D Bowen was advised PEAK ROAD must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
 
WEGOBAM – On arrival at the barriers the saddle on the horse was adjusted.
 
SPICY SONIC – Began very awkwardly and lost ground.
 
CALM SEEKER – When asked to comment on tactics adopted in the middle stages, particularly her decision to lead the event from the 800m, apprentice A Donald stated her intentions were not to lead but to race in a handy position. She added however when CALM SEEKER commenced to over-race from 1000m, and with the rider of BRAVE WARRIOR restraining to her inside, she elected to allow CALM SEEKER to roll forward at that point. Ms Donald further added CALM SEEKER settled comfortably and was more relaxed in its breathing for the remainder of the race, although acknowledged that the pace she set from the 800m was quicker than she would have preferred and that this had a detrimental effect on the overall finishing effort of the horse.  Stewards noted the explanation of apprentice Donald.
 
 
 
Race 8: VOLUNTEER STAKES BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1200 metres
 
The start of this event was delayed when the tongue tie on KOSCIUSKO was refitted on arrival at the barriers.
 
KOSCIUSKO – When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer M Faulkner advised at its most recent start the horse began awkwardly and settled further back in the field than anticipated, adding that KOSCIUSKO was dropping back in grade today, and was confident of a forward showing.  
 
HAIL TO THE CHIEF – Slow to begin.
 
BROCKY – Over-raced in the middle stages of the event.
 
SAILING – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start and became unbalanced. Tightened for room and had to be checked passing the 250m. At a subsequent inquiry apprentice J Williams, rider of BROCKY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that when riding his mount along he permitted BROCKY to shift in passing the 250m when not clear of SAILING which had to be checked. The license of J Williams to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 6th May up to and including midnight 14th May 2023.  
 
DRATINI – After being delayed arriving on course due to traffic issues, underwent a per-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
DOOMANI – Jumped out at the start.
 
RUINART – Crowded at the start between runners. Had difficulty securing clear running near the 200m and again over the concluding stages.
 
STOINKA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
DARCEANDDERMILL – Held up rounding the home turn on the heels of the tiring DRATINI.
