SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Doomben 24th May 2023:
Race 6 – Trainer Mr L. Mayfield-Smith reported that subsequent blood tests on LADY MASQUERADE revealed no abnormalities and he would continue with the filly’s preparation.
Race 8 – Trainer K. Schweida advised that he was satisfied with the way RING OF STEEL had pulled up after the event. Mr Schweida added that he would consider some possible gear changes on the colt before reassessing its preparation.
 
 
GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 5. C. Bayliss (ARLIZAR) +1kg
 
 
Race 1:  FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1200 metres
 
Due to veterinary services being delayed, all races were put back one time slot with race 9 scheduled for 4.54pm.
 
EXTRA FREE – Began awkwardly. Over raced during the early stages.  
 
MOONLIGHT KICKS – Hampered on jumping. Over raced during the early stages.  Raced wide throughout. Laid in during the early stages of the home straight.
 
 
Race 2: TAB IPSWICH CUP TIX ON SALE QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 800 metres
 
FAST FUSION – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room near the 150m and shifted in and away from DOLLY’S A NATURAL which laid in causing FAST FUSION to bump MAGIC SUCCESSION. Then had some difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 100m.  
 
MAGIC SUCCESSION – Trainer Mr M. Palmer was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider which was declared at 7.23am on the 26/5/2023. Raced ungenerously in the early stages and was inclined to lay out. Held up for clear running approaching the home turn. Near the 150m, bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced when FAST FUSION was taken in by DOLLY’S A NATURAL. Unable to obtain clear running over the concluding stages and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
THIS IS ONE – Made the home turn awkwardly and shifted out. Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
DOLLY'S A NATURAL – Carried wider rounding the home turn when THIS IS ONE laid out. Raced greenly in the home straight. Near the 200m, shifted in abruptly before being corrected by its rider.  
 
VALLEY OF HOPE – Near the 700m, put in an awkward stride.
 
WITH DIAMONDS – Slow to begin.
 
HELEN'S DREAM – Began awkwardly. Jockey M. Murphy reported that his mount raced greenly throughout.
 
TSUKINO – Slow to begin.
 
Race 3: BS KNEES RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 Handicap 800 metres
 
STEP ON FIRE – Slow to begin. Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken. Lost the off fore plate in running. A warning was placed on the pre race manners of the gelding.   
 
SNEAKY STARTER – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start.
 
HOT AND STRONG – Began very awkwardly momentarily unbalancing its rider, and consequently was slow to begin. When racing keenly near the 700m was steadied from heels of VICEMAN which shifted in.
 
MAGURO – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was found to have lost a tooth, and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 4: BABY MCANENEY IN BLOOM QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1710 metres
 
FLASH PRINCE – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly during the early stages.
 
CANDY CLOUDS – Began awkwardly, and consequently was slow into stride.
 
GOOGAZ – Jockey M. Hellyer reported that his mount laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 5: INFIELD FESTIVAL 17 JUNE Class 2 Handicap 1200 metres
 
BILLY'S BRO – Began awkwardly. Near the 700m buffeted with HOROWITZ on a number of occasions.
 
INVINSIBLE TEARS – Began awkwardly.
 
HOROWITZ – Began awkwardly. Jockey J. Guthman-Chester reported at scale that his mount did not appreciate today’s track conditions. Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant findings.
 
STAR SEEKER – Began awkwardly. Laid in when placed under pressure placing rider at a disadvantage.
 
ARLIZAR – Began awkwardly.
 
RUN RAMPANT – Near the 100m when under hard riding, shifted in abruptly unbalancing its rider. Trainer S. Sixtus was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
 
Race 6: RIVER 94.9FM Class 2 Handicap 1200 metres
 
The start of this race was delayed after DUBAI NIGHTS became cast in the tie up area, and the ambulance was required to attend an injured licensee.  
 
MICRO – Slow to begin.
 
BIG SHORT – Reared as the start was effected and lost significant ground. Raced keenly during the middle stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
DUBAI NIGHTS – Declared a late scratching at 2.56pm on veterinary advice after becoming cast in the tie up stall area. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets on DUBAI NIGHTS be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st – MICRO – 0c win, 3c place
2nd – DEEP FIRE – 4c place
 
 
Race 7: SEVEN Maiden Plate 1100 metres
 
ADASHAN – Molloy – Apprentice J. Molloy was replaced by apprentice C. Waddell. Raced in restricted room and obliged to steady whilst tiring, when SHE’S SOO GOOD laid in before being corrected by its rider.
 
CHEERS TO MAXIMUS – Apprentice L. O’Donnell was replaced by apprentice B. Wheeler for acceptable reasons.  
 
INNOVATES – Slow to begin. Approaching the 900m, was severely checked. Apprentice S. Callow, rider of SHE’S SOO GOOD, was charged and pleaded guilty to careless riding pursuant to AR131(a), in that near the 900m she failed to make sufficient effort to correct her mount from shifting in, causing ELLOWS HALL (M. Cahill) to shift in and away from that runner, and causing MANGOS, ridden by S. Cormack, to shift in and away from that runner, causing INNOVATES to be severely checked and lose its rightful running. Apprentice S. Callow’s license to ride in races was suspended for 15 days commencing midnight the 27th of May 2023 and ending midnight the 11th of June 2023.
 
MANGOS – Slow to begin. Near the 900m, tightened and shifted in and away from ELLOWS HALL, which was taken in by SHE’S SOO GOOD. Held up for clear running until a point approaching the 100m.
 
MUIRLEA MAGIC – Raced very ungenerously in the early stages proving difficult to settle. Near the 200m was taken out slightly by SHOELACE SOUP which shifted out and raced in restricted room.
 
PIPATINA – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
MY DAY – Held up for clear running approaching the home turn.
 
SHE'S SOO GOOD – Raced wide throughout. Near the 200m laid in under pressure before being corrected by its rider.
 
ELLOWS HALL – Near the 900m, taken in by SHE’S SOO GOOD.
 
 
Race 8: TAB Class 1 Plate 2210 metres
 
BADER – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room shortly after the start, inconvenienced and lost ground.

CHERNAK (FR) – Slow to begin. Shortly after the start take outwards then obliged to steady from the heels of KALEA.
 
CHOSEN DISTANCE – Began awkwardly.
 
NO MORE RED – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
ROCK UP (NZ) – Shifted out on jumping and then continued to lay out for some distance. Laid out throughout before weakening over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer Ms W. Bannerot was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
 
KALEA – Held up for clear running approaching the home turn.  
 
GRANDE BAIE (NZ) – Had to be steadied from the heels of PORT MOURANT when rounding the home turn.  
 
Race 9: SCHWEPPES WINTER PROVINCIAL STAYERS - HEAT - BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 2210 metres
 
SCARLET TUFTY (FR) – When asked to comment on the tactics adopted, apprentice B. Wheeler stated that in order to occupy a forward position, he was obliged to urge the gelding forward. Subsequently, SCARLET TUFTY raced keenly and refused to settle.
 
I AM THE EMPIRE (IRE) – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide during the early stages. When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, jockey Jockey J. Guthman-Chester stated that it was his intention to race in a forward position, but after jumping away awkwardly and then attempting to ride forward to occupy a position, the gelding was caught wide and he then elected to restrain for cover. Nonetheless, he added that he was disappointed with I AM THE EMPIRE’S finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery.
 
SAVVY LEGEND (NZ) – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
JIMMY THE TULIP – Began very awkwardly. Near the 1000m forced wider when SAVVY LAGEND, which was over racing, shifted out.
