DWINDLING SPIRIT – Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor was found guilty of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that he did shift in when insufficiently clear of AIDEN, which in turn tightened CANNON HILL onto PICADOR which was tightened onto the running rail and obliged to check. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 days, from 2 July 2023 up to and including 11 July 2023. In determining penalty Stewards placed the degree of carelessness and severity of interference, directly attributable to Jockey Wilson-Taylors actions, to be in the low range, as well as noting Jockey Wilson-Taylors poor record in relation to the rule. Stewards did determine the racing manners of CANNON HILL and PICADOR had a slight bearing on the degree of interference however, concluded that the tightening of those runners and AIDEN was as a direct result of DWINDLING SPIRIT being permitted to shift inside the line of four-wide. Jockey Wilson-Taylor was advised of his right to an appeal. MOOLOOLABA (NZ) – Crowded approaching the 600m. CANNON HILL – Tightened between runners approaching the 1000m. CRAZY TRAIN – Momentarily crowded approaching the 200m. OCEAN EMPEROR – Trainer J. Race 6: ON FIRE RACING BENCHMARK 68 Handicap (1680m) Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view footage of the start. Upon viewing the footage and taking evidence from all Jockeys involved in the race as well as Starter Mr B Abbey, it was ascertained that as the start was effected, Jockey J. Orman was not seated in the saddle due to his mount CARBONETTI becoming fractious and being cast in the barrier immediately prior. As both M. Du Plessis and Apprentice J. Williams were both of the belief that the start was not being effected due to J. Orman not being positioned on his mount, they were not in a position to commence fairly. Stewards were of the opinion that as CARBONETTI (J. Orman) was riderless at the time the start was effect and M. Du Plessis and Apprentice J. Williams had been materially disadvantaged with the manner in which the start was effected, CARBONETTI, PRICKLY POPPY, and PAINTED BLACK were all declared non-runners under AR204. Starter B. Abbey was admonished and advised to review his communication practices at the barriers. DIS GO BOOM – Began very awkwardly. Harley reported the gelding hung-out throughout the early stages and subsequently lost ground. Hung-out rounding the home turn. Trainer M. Currie was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record for hanging-out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. CABRINELLA – Bumped on jumping. SHINSHINTO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MAGURO – Taken wider on the track when SNEAKER STARTER laid out. Following the running of the event, got loose from the tie-ups and galloped around the course proper area. Race 9: TAB QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (1350m) PAIENBARA – Bumped on jumping and was slow into stride. TWYFORD – Trainer J. Hubbard advised it would be the stable’s intention for the gelding to be ridden more conservatively, than in its most recent starts, with the intention to find cover. Settled mid-field. Laid out near the 1000m. Held-up rounding the home turn on a tiring runner’s heels. HOOT 'N' HOLLER – Bumped on jumping. Bumped the running rail at the 800m.
