QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT IPSWICH TURF CLUB FRIDAY 28th JULY 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL – 2.5m entirePENETROMETER – 5.2 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – P ZimmermannStewards – K Daly, R Hanson, M Smith (Cadet)Clerk of Scales – D McMahon (Cadet)Judge – M Lincoln, K SchrammVeterinarian – Dr S FlynnSwab Attendants – L BobezskoStarter – D Jones GENERAL Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:Race 3: BLUE MERLE – M Harley 55.5kgs (+0.5kg) Race 1: STRIVE TO BE KIND DAY QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 800 metres TENBY – Slow to begin. Race 2: KINGSLEY LAWSON LAWYERS QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1100 metres KESALUL – Over-raced in the early stages. THE ASTRONOMER – Taken out at the start bumped heavily with ASHIGARU. TOUTE SWEET – Over-raced for a short distance near the 900m when being restrained to obtain cover behind KESALUL. ASHIGARU – After beginning awkwardly bumped heavily at the start by THE ASTRONOMER. Over-raced in the early stages and as a consequence when being restrained put in an awkward stride passing the 900m. OZZIE THE RABBIT – Crowded at the start between runners. ELLE MAGIC – Shifted out abruptly at the start crowding runners to the outside. EXOTIQUE MISS – Began awkwardly. Near the 150m raced greenly when OZZIE THE RABBIT shifted out to obtain clear running. Raced wide for the majority. Race 3: BLONDIES POWDER COATING Maiden Handicap 2150 metres KOWLOON KURIOUS – From the wide barrier restrained shortly after the start to a rearward position closer to the rails. SHAMUKA – Over-raced in the early stages and was then inclined to layout over the concluding stages. AHOY – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight and approaching the 250m bumped with SIGNITA on a number of occasions when shifting out to improve.When asked to comment on tactics adopted rider M Cahill stated instructions had been to settle midfield with cover however after BLUE MERLE improved to his inside shortly after the start and a short distance later after being crossed by SIGNITA, he was obliged to settle further back in the field than anticipated. Trainer S Dwyer concurred with the instructions issued, adding that it had not been the stable’s intention to settle as far forward as its last start at SCTC on 9th July 2023, and the preferred racing pattern of AHOY is to settle off the speed with cover. Stewards noted the explanation however did remind Mr Dwyer to advise Stewards of any change of tactics going forward. SIGNITA – Approaching the 250m bumped whenAHOY shifted out to improve. BLUE MERLE – Slow to begin. Rider M Harley dismounted on pulling up after becoming concerned with the horse’s action passing the winning post. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the both fore tendons. Trainer D Vandyke was advised the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race or trial start. MEDIEVAL CROWN – On arrival at the barriers the saddle was readjusted. Over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event. Race 4: VINCE INSURANCE BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 2150 metres GO MILLO – Inclined to lay out for a short distance approaching the 600m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. ZOOMURUDI – Rider A Mallyon dropped his whip near the 300m. ENJOUEE – When asked to comment on tactics adopted particularly approaching the 600m rider J Orman reported there was an opportunity to improve into a run to the outside of GRINZINGRER KNIGHT and to the inside of GO MILLO which tended to lay out at that point. He added soon after obtaining that run ENJOUEE was immediately under pressure from that point, and the horse in his opinion was disappointing over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealedno abnormalities. SAVILEO – Change of tactics, to be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. MARIINSKY – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running between the 300m and 100m. Race 5: PRECINCT URBAN PLANNING BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 800 metres GOSSIP TORQUE – Blundered on jumping. Laid in under pressure approaching the winning post. THAWRA – Rider B Thompson reported in his opinion the horse did not back up from its most recent start at Toowoomba on 22nd July 2023. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. MAXIMUM ALTITUDE – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home staright. PIANIST – Put in an awkward stride near the 250m. Approaching the winning post had to be steadied when GOSSIP TORQUE shifted in under pressure resulting in rider M Cahill being obliged to stop riding his mount at that point. Apprentice C J Graham, rider of GOSSIP TORQUE, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Race 6: BNB DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1666 metres WHISTLING SPIRIT – Near the 1300m raced keenly for a short distance when the pace of the race was steady. DARK HARMONY – Jumped out at the start and bumped WHAT’S UP HONEY. Rider B Wheeler reported the horse raced was inclined to race ungenerously at various stages of the event. HURI BLACK – Near the 1300m raced keenly for a short distance when the pace of the race was steady. Held up for clear running approaching the home turn. ROCKED – Slow to muster speed in the early stages of the event. THESECONDATPORTSEA – Change of tactics, to be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Approaching the winning post raced in restricted room between DARK HARMONY which rolled out marginally and GOLDELUCK which rolled in marginally. WHAT'S UP HONEY – Change of tactics, to be ridden further back in the field if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly after being bumped at the start and settling in a rearward position. Rider A Jones reported when placed under pressure in the home straight, WHAT’S UP HONEY did not let down as well as expected and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery. Race 7: THE LAWN SHED Maiden Handicap 1200 metres PADARRA – After improving quickly into a run to the outside of DARLHISMA rounding the home turn, shifted wider. MISSION TO WIN – Approaching the 400m had to be steadied when INNOVATES shifted out when not fully clear. M Du Plessis, rider of INNOVATES, was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a) in this incident.Raced wide for the majority. IRISH ARTHUR – Slow to begin. PUZZLE DESIGNER – Began awkwardly. JENNI INDA JUNGLE – Laid out for the majority of the event and approaching the home turn ran wide, shortly thereafter on entering the home straight laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Raced greenly in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T Lambourn was advised he would now remove the tongue tie from the horse however was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of JENNI INDA JUNGLE. BOOM RAPTURE – Rounding the home turn, when weakening, was hampered and lost ground when racing between PADARRA and JENNI INDA JUNGLE which laid in. BRYDELICIOUS – Raced wide for the majority.Hampered and had to be restrained rounding the home turn when crowded for room between JENNA INDA JUNGLE which laid in and BOOM RAPTURE which raced in restricted room to the outside of PADARRA. DARLHISMA - Shifted wide on entering the home straight to secure clear running. Race 8: PENNYWISE RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 Handicap 1200 metres RIVIERA BLUE – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. WHERE'S TEKAY NOW – Jumped out at the start and bumped DIVENIRE. Following the disappointing performance, a post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. UNZAGA – From the wide barrier restrained shortly after the start to a rearward position closer to the rail. BULSARA – Bumped at the start. Over-raced in the early stages of the event. FASTLING – Near the 1100m steadied from the heels of BEAU WITNESS. MISHANI CONMAN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight obliging rider Emily Lang to stop riding and correct her mount on several occasions. Leaving 100m raced in restricted between BEAU WITNESS and FASTLING which shifted in marginally. AWARD ME – Jumped in at the start and bumped BULSARA. BEAU WITNESS – Raced wide for the majority of the event. CHAMPINSKY – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. DREAM ENTITY – Held up for clear running between the 100m and winning post. DIVENIRE – Bumped at the start. Over-raced at heels near the 800m and had to be steadied. Rider S Champkin reported in her opinion DIVENIRE did not appreciate today’s prevailing track conditions.
