Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 4: BETTER TIMES – M. Cahill - 54.5kg (+0.5kg)
Race 5: CAPITAL REIGN – M Cahill - 54.5kg (+0.5kg)
 
 
Race 1: QUEENSLAND THERMO KING QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (800m)
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing connections of DUNTROON LASS to view the photo finish for fourth. Once satisfied that a margin was present, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.
 
I’LLTELLYOUWHEN – Stewards permitted Rider M. Du Plessis to be declared as the replacement rider when R. Wiggins was unavailable due to personal reasons. Began awkwardly.
 
KING OF THE JUNGLE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and contacted MRS ROBINSON. Approaching the 550m, shifted in an attempt to obtain a position closer to the running rail, directing DUNTROON LASS inwards into the line of CROSS OF SCARLET, who was obliged to restrain and lose ground when becoming awkwardly placed on heels. Rider T. Brooker was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
MISTER MODERATION – Began awkwardly. Performed below market expectations. Co-trainer M. Sears stated that the gelding would be better suited over further distances in the future. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lost its near-fore plate in running.
 
TEQUILA STEALER – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
CROSS OF SCARLET – Approaching the 550m, obliged to restrain and subsequently lost ground when placed on awkwardly on the heels of DUNTROON LASS which shifted ground abruptly when directed inwards by KING OF THE JUNGLE.
 
DUNTROON LASS - Stewards permitted Apprentice D. McGillivray to be declared the replacement rider of the gelding when Apprentice J. Williams was delayed due to transport difficulties. Approaching the 550m, directed inwards by KING OF THE JUNGLE and shifted ground abruptly into the line of CROSS OF SCARLET who was obliged to steady. Raced greenly throughout the event.
 
MRS ROBINSON – Contacted on jumping.
 
HOPETOUN SUNRISE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 2: ROCKLEA TRUCK ELECTRICAL MAIDEN PLATE (1666M)
 
 
ALIGN THE PLANETS – Began awkwardly.
 
MATSUYAMA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
NASSAU – Blundered on jumping and lost ground. Commenced to race wide and without cover from 1000m. Inside the 300m, bumped heavily with KALENDS and became unbalanced for several strides.
 
SIR ZINO (NZ) - Approaching the 1200m obliged to steady as the pace slackened when becoming awkwardly placed on heels. Raced keenly for a short distance thereafter.
 
SUBSTANCE – Contacted on jumping when TAMBOURINE MAN shifted out.
 
TAMBOURINE MAN – Began awkwardly, shifted out and contacted SUBSTANCE. Raced wide and without cover in the early stages of the event before obtaining a position outside the leader.
 
KALENDS – Inside the 300m, bumped heavily with SIR ZINO (NZ) when attempting to obtain clear running. Rider B. Thompson accidentally dropped his whip approaching the 250m. Performed below market expectations. Rider B. Thompson could off no explanation for the performance, other than he was disappointed in the manner in which the gelding finished the event off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
TROUBLESHOOT (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at the Sunshine Coast, on 10 September 2023 and passed fit to start. Began awkwardly.
 
WHEN DOVES FLY – Began awkwardly.
 
CHRISTMAS TIME - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at the Gold Coast, on 9 September 2023 and passed fit to start.
 
MIZMCKEON – Approaching the 1200m obliged to steady as the pace slackened when becoming awkwardly placed on heels.
 
 
Race 3: QUEENSLAND TRUCKING ASSOCIATION MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200m)
 
INQUISITION – Slow to begin.
 
DREAM KNIGHT – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 1:37pm after becoming fractious in the barriers and deemed unsuitable to start. Stewards ordered all successful wagers be deducted the following cents:
 
1st       KAI TAK – 0c win, 1c place
2nd      MORE LOVE - 4c place
3rd       OUR DRUMMER - 4c place
 
Furthermore, co-trainer G. Heinrich was advised the gelding would be required to barrier trial to Stewards’ satisfaction prior to racing again.
 
KAI TAK – Began only fairly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Over the concluding stages, taken wider on the track when MORE LOVE laid out under pressure.
 
MORE LOVE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight, carrying KAI TAK wider.
 
RUMBLING BOY – Hung-out rounding the home turn.
 
PUREZZA – Approaching the 650m, momentary tightened and obliged to ease when KAI TAK shifted out to obtain clear running. Rider B. Thompson was advised to exercise greater care.
 
DOONA – Approaching the 500m, raced keenly on the heels of HARD FEED for a short distance when the pace was slackened. Commenced to over-race for a short distance thereafter when PROLIFIC MELODY commenced to improve to the outside. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
HARD FEED – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
WHITTLESFORD – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
I AM PEARL – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
 
Race 4: R & J BATTERIES RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP (2150m)
 
AIDEN – Inside the 100m, became held up for clear running when awkwardly placed on the heels of WINTER THORN, before bumping RUGGED WOMAN when attempting to obtain clear running and becoming momentarily unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
WINTER THORN (IRE) – Raced wide and without cover in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to obtain the lead inside the 1500m.
 
BRING THE BOOM (NZ) – Raced keenly on heels approaching the winning post on the first occasion. Taken wider rounding the home-turn.
 
RUGGED WOMAN – Raced wide and without cover in the early stages. Inside the 100m, bumped when AIDEN attempted to shift out to obtain clear running, and carried out onto JANE HIS WIFE.
 
DELANEY’S GIRL – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
JANE HIS WIFE – Over the concluding stages, bumped and taken inwards by MT MORT SHARK who was laying in.
 
SEERESS – Held up for clear running inside the 200m, before being obliged to steady over the concluding stages when RUGGED WOMAN was carried out, and subsequently went to the line untested.
 
HEART OF A LION (NZ) – From a wide barrier, shifted behind runners in the early stages.
 
MT MORT SHARK (NZ) – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, contacting JANE HIS WIFE on several occasions.
 
WINSTON BLUE – When questioned regarding the improved performance, Rider K. Zechner stated the gelding was suited by the slow tempo in the early and middle stages, and was subsequently able to finish off the event well.
 
 
 
Race 5: BIG RIGS NEWSPAPER BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP (800m)
 
NEVER PAID – Approaching the 200m, obliged to be shifted off the heels of BEL ACADEMY to obtain clear running.
 
BEL ACADEMY – Entering the home straight, shifted out and bumping with CABRINELLA.
 
MORT DOYLE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and contacted COMMANDEERING.
 
FLAMING CONQUEST – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
COMANDEERING – Contacted on jumping.
 
SHALAA’S MOMENT – Blundered badly on jumping, resulting in its rider becoming momentarily unbalanced. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
UNDERHAND – Laid out rounding the home-turn.
 
CABRINELLA – Entering the home straight, bumped with BEL ACADEMY.
 
INVINCIBILUS – Began only fairly, before being hampered between runners, and lost ground. Commenced to race keenly on the heels of MORT DOYLE. Laid in under pressure in the early parts of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have suffered bilateral epistaxis on the first occasion. Trainer T. Schmidt was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).
 
 
Race 6: DON MOORE MEMORIAL CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1200m)
 
FASTLING – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
RADIANT REMI – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
COODARADY – Approaching the 1000m, commenced to race keenly on the heels of RADIANT REMI.
 
HEARSAY – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HEROIC MISS – Began awkwardly.
 
MAXIE TAP (NZ) – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
BEST SONG – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected, making contact with B. Wheeler. Began very awkwardly, making contact with the barrier partition. Approaching the 800m, commenced to race keenly obliged to restrain. Apprentice B. Wheeler stated he was mindful of the gelding’s racing manners when electing to restrain in the manner in which he did, which the gelding subsequently overreacted to and lost ground. Apprentice B. Wheeler was examined by QAS following the event and passed fit to fulfill his remaining engagements.  
 
 
Race 7: PENNYWISE RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 HANDICAP (1350m)
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the photo for the dead-heat between the 4th placegetters. Once satisfied, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.
 
ARTHUR IN CHARGE – Eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Stable representative B. Andrew stated the gelding would now most likely be retired.
 
TAVIJEWEL (NZ) – Performed below market expectations. Rider M. Cahill could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
BULLET FORCE – Began awkwardly.
 
SIR PICCOLO – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
DARING BELLE – Approaching the 100m, when attempting to shift out to obtain clear running, inconvenienced AWESOME AUDREY who became awkwardly placed on heels and was obliged to restrain. Rider A. Jones was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
STAR CHANCE – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure from the 600m. Approaching the 100m, commenced to lay in onto AWESOME AUDREY, who became awkwardly placed on the heels of DARING BELLE. Jockey M. Butler was advised to exercise greater care.
 
AWESOME AUDREY – Approaching the 100m, obliged to steady and lost ground when directly inwards by STAR CHANCE and becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of DARING BELLE which also shifted ground.
 
FLASH ZARIZ – Began awkwardly. From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.
 
 
Race 8: SBB PARTNERS RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP (1666m)
 
The start of the race was delayed when SAYS Who required farrier attention. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed fit to start.
 
ROCKIN’ ARTIE – Began only fairly.
 
HUSSONHOFF – Inside the 200m, taken wider and inconvenienced when LAGO DI BRAIES shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running.
 
NITROGLYCERINE – Stewards permitted Rider A. Jones to be declared as the replacement rider when A. Spinks was unavailable due to transport difficulties.
 
DRAKE PASSAGE (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BELLE’S BOY – Performed below market expectations. Apprentice J. Williams expressed disappointment with the performance, and stated the gelding failed to let down when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
LAGO DI BRAIES – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at the Gold Coast on 9 September 2023 and passed fit to start. Began only fairly. Held-up for clear running in the early part of the home straight. Inside the 200m, when attempting to obtain clear running, shifted out abruptly, inconveniencing HUSSONHOFF, who was obliged to restrain and carried out. Rider K. Zechner was severely reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
POLE VOLTER – Began only fairly. Approaching the 1500m, attempted to jump the crossing and became unbalanced.
