Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting:
Race 3 – RAPID DUDE – M. Cahill +0.5kg (55kg)
Race 1: GET SOCIAL @IPSWICHTURFCLUB QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1350 metres
Stewards inquired into an incident near the 100m, where BALLROOM BLITZ contacted heels and blundered. After taking evidence from apprentice C. Graham (GUCHI DIVA) in the presence of master K. Schweida, J. Bayliss (BALLROOM BLITZ) and A. Jones (CERARED), it was determined that leading up to the incident, apprentice C. Graham dropped her rein, taking a number of strides to re-gather and in doing so, shifted out, obliging CERARED to be taken wider, ultimately resulting in BALLROOM BLITZ who was improving to the outside of CERARED, to contact that runners heels and blunder.
EXPOSITION – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the gelding to settle further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
KIDSTON – Raced wide throughout.
RICH AGAIN – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, was tightened between runners and lost ground. Stewards when considering this incident, noted that WOODY’S MATE shortly after the start, shifted out marginally, causing BALLROOM BLITZ to be taken wider and bump with RICH AGAIN as BETATHANEVA was being ridden forward by jockey Hellyer in an attempt to clear. Stewards whilst noting there were some shifts from the inside, were of the opinion that jockey M. Hellyer should have afforded RICH AGAIN more racing room and issued jockey Hellyer a reprimand for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a).
WOODY'S MATE – Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Weakened from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying symptoms of the thumps.
BALLROOM BLITZ – Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly after the start. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid out when placed under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. Contacted heels and blundered near the 100m.
CERARED – Carried wider by GUCHI DIVA which shifted out near the 100m.
GUCHI DIVA – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice C. Graham dropped her rein approaching the 100m, causing it to shift out before being corrected by its rider.
BETATHANEVA – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the filly to be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. After being caught wide in the early stages, was obliged to settle at the rear of the field. Raced greenly rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 2: CONTRACT CHEFS AUSTRALIA Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap 1350 metres
The start was delayed when MADAME PEARL’S became cast in the barriers and was declared a late scratching, by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 2.26pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on MADAME PEARL’S be refunded with the following deductions to apply –
1st – 11c the win, 9c the place
2nd – 13c the place
3rd – 8c the place
Trainer L. Gough was advised that the gelding would require a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.
ENTERPRISE FUSE and FINAL SELECTION, which were in the adjoining barriers, also underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and were both cleared to start.
FINAL SELECTION – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
MISS SHU (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Shortly after the start, steadied from the heels of O’POLLY which shifted in. Apprentice M. Castle the rider of O’POLLY was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Jockey A. Allen reported that his mount raced keenly in the early and middle stages and proved difficult to settle.
PARIAH ON FIRE – Raced wide in the early stages.
GISELLE'S GAMBLE – Tightened on jumping, contacted heels, blundered, and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages.
Following the running of race 2, the track was upgraded to a good 3.
Race 3: GREAT NORTHERN Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Handicap 1350 metres
The start of this race was delayed when MONT ROYAL was late into the enclosure. Trainer G. McCauley was reprimanded pursuant to AR194 for failing to present MONT ROYAL to the mounting yard 15 minutes prior to the start time.
OCTAVIO – Bumped in the early part of the home straight.
ENCOMPASS – Tightened on jumping and lost ground.
PRIVATE MESSAGE – Began awkwardly. In the early part of the home straight, laid in and bumped with OCTAVIO and became unbalanced.
LUNARIAN (NZ) – Slow to begin. Leaving the 800m, commenced to over race, steadied from heels and shifted wider.
PAIRING – Bumped on jumping.
OCEAN HONOUR – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
JOHNNY UTAH – Began awkwardly.
NEARA REWARD – Began awkwardly. Inclined to lay out approaching the home turn. Laid out over the concluding stages.
RAPID DUDE – Raced keenly in the early stages.
BELPHEGOR – Raced wide throughout. Jockey W. D’Avila dropped his whip near the 200m.
BRAMBLE BAY – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
MONT ROYAL – MONT ROYAL performed poorly, finishing in last position. Trainer G. McCauley was advised that the gelding would be barred from racing at metropolitan meetings until such time that its form improves to the requisite standard.
Race 4: TAB Class 3 Handicap 1100 metres
BOLD HOI HO (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages.
TRIBECA STAR – Began awkwardly. Jockey B. Thompson reported that his mount laid in under pressure in the home straight and may not have appreciated today’s track conditions.
BUNGARRIBEE LAD – Near the 700m, commenced to over race, improved onto the heels of RICHON and shifted out causing it to race in restricted room for a short distance and lose some ground.
Race 5: BASE METAL FABRICATION RATINGS BAND 0 - 65 Handicap1700 metres
MAUI (NZ) – Restrained from the wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail.
MIDNIGHT RAMBLER – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, steadied from the heels of TIME TO TESTIFY which shifted in. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
SECURITY ADVISOR – Slow to begin.
SOARHI – Passing the 800m, when racing keenly was steadied from heels. Held up from rounding the home turn until a point approaching the 200m.
HOLLYWOOD PARK (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Performed below market expectations. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-foreleg and have a small abrasion inside the ride nostril. Trainer D. Vandyke was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing.
FOXY FRAULIEN – Began moderately before mustering speed and racing forward.
BELLA TIVACI (NZ) – Restrained from the wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail. Held up rounding the home turn.
TIME TO TESTIFY – Raced wide throughout.
Race 6: TIACS FOUNDATION Class 1 Plate 1350 metres
HURTS SO GOOD – Began awkwardly. Put in an awkward stride approaching the 1100m. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn. Jockey R. Dolan reported that his mount was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight and proved disappointing.
NEVER GIVE UP – Raced wide throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn.
ISLA'S DAY – Began awkwardly.
GODRA – Trainer N. Luke was fined $200 pursuant to AR227(a) in that she did not bring the appropriate advertised gear to the races to be worn by GODRA. Raced wide throughout.
Race 7: #THISISACONVERSATIONSTARTER BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1200 metres
MAGNUS BELLAGIO – Jockey B. Thornton reported that in his opinion the gelding may have not appreciated today’s track conditions.
STARZAM – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from the off-side nostril. Trainer K. Schweida was advised that the gelding would require to gallop 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to resuming under the provisions of AR79(8).
HE'S HEAVEN – Slow to begin.
THE BILLIONAIRE – Shifted out shortly after the start, bumped with STARTER and became unbalanced. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
WHY WE DRINK – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced wide throughout.
STARTER – Buffeted on jumping.
